Nogalious

Long time since I've played a game with a lot of thought put into it like this one I was disappointed to find that each area plays out like an escape room so this isn't a Zelda II or Simon's Quest however, by it's own merit it, the template works well. However it takes a lot from the former as well as old arcade titles like Karnov which held interesting secrets if you like thoroughly exploring each area you are in; spoiler for one example would be a vine taking you into the clouds to get the key you need to go into the next area. If you stand there for a moment, after grabbing said key, a cloud passes by with boots floating on it that allows you to jump higher - not necessary but they do help It's old gimmicks like this that we enjoyed in NES and arcade titles during the late eighties which most developers have forgotten so Nogalious is a rare find. Nog also relies quite a bit on pattern-memorization; like the old days you only have so many continues before you have to start the current world over but this allows you to sniff around for secrets (like those jumping boots) each time around which you may not have found. One and only complaint / suggestion is that the developer add Music and SFX volume controls; the soundtrack for Nog is ok but I usually like listening to Spotify with game music off and only SFX turned up.

Fun game with that look and fell of nostalgia.

This is an interesting 2D platformer - it merges some almost flash-game like aesthetics with a more NES / C64 look, and delivers some that's nice to look at and visually appealing. The music as well is very atmospheric and retro-style and one of my favourite parts of the entire experience. All that being said, there's one thing you gotta know going into this game. This game is hard. Like, really hard. It throws you right into the action and you need to learn quick or die. I made a video on it, and a guy in the comments compared it to Dragon's Lair on the NES, and it's a pretty apt comparison. If you're some one who enjoys challenging games - especially of the 2D platformer flavour, it's a good time overall, but be ready to die over and over when you first jump in. If you can break past the learning curve, there's a lot to enjoy here. *I also don't think the guy who made this game's first language is English, so some of the text is a bit strangely worded. Didn't affect gameplay for me at all but is worth noting.
