This is a thumbs in the middle! Oooh boy, I will probably get a lot of hate for this review, especially from die hard fans. Alright, let me begin by saying that I am kind of on a journey to experience those Games here. The only Ninja Gaiden I played was the NES version when I was younger. With 41 I am probably considered a dinosaur right now. But basically I never played the 3D Games... I heard, read and watched much about them over the years though. So my plan is to still play Ninja Gaiden Σ2, Ninja Gaiden Σ3 Razor's Edge, Yaiba: Ninja Gaiden Z (I know it is a spin-off that most didn't like), Ragebound (which I will probably love), NG 2 Black Remake and finally NG4 since I now have finished NG Σ. Sooo, Steam says it took me 15.6 hours (but I dabbled a bit in the trials), the Game said it took me 12:12:13 to complete my very first blind playthrough on normal difficulty, 14/51 Achievements. And yes, I usually pick the harder difficulties, but from the horror stories on how punishing this Game is, I admit I had too much respect to jump in at least on hard. And apparently it is also a different experience altogether with different enemies in the levels. But yeah, I think I didn't groove with it. On normal everything was quite easy (of course it was) and I got through with zero problems. No problems with enemies or combat, no problems with specific levels and every boss was down on the first try, except for one that I redid since it used up a talisman which I wanted to spare for the final leg. But did I like it? Eeeeeh, I don't know, if you would ask me for a rating I would give it a 6.5/10. And yeah, I get it, hardcore fans would say this is blasphemy. Also, this is not a review of the port (which was good after I locked fps to 60 in my Nvidia App; before that it was dropping fps all over the place) but just what I think of the Game. The story was - expectedly - stupid. I know it's a child of it's time but in my opinion it didn't stand the test of time. Dialogue was also boring and stupid. The characters were boring. But I didn't play this to get wooed by the story tbh. So how did I like the Gameplay? It was good. I really did like the combat, the weapons and weapon variety and responsiveness. I HATED the camera. I got the hang of it pretty quickly but still, I had to fight the camera constantly. And this was especially annoying at platforming sections which I found to be horrible. Glad there weren't many. Also the camera could annoy you in combat as well. And aiming the bow which was mandatory in a few sections was horrible as well. Music was nothing to write home about and the levels looked bland and boring without any interesting setpieces. Also, so much backtracking through the same boring levels. There are people that will disagree with me, especially people who played NG 04 on console or grew up with it or just grind the hell out of those games. But this is a review of a first timer playing this, I am not attached to any fond memories here. (I had a similar opinion with the DMC Games as well, btw.) But yeah, basically I won't play on the harder difficulties a second, third and fourth time, I also probably won't do the trials, just not the type for that. But I will still give every other NG Game I listed above a chance and review them individually. Still glad that I got to experience it at least once (I know, "You have not experienced Ninja Gaiden, you need to play it on the hardest difficulty, then write again") and that is enough for me. My backlog is big enough as it is, so on to the next one...
Great collection of amazing character action games. While the PC port unfortunately doesn't have a ton of graphical settings to adjust, they're all pretty easy to run anyways given their age. So unless you're running a literal f**king toaster, you should be fine. Sigma 1 - Great game and not a bad version of NG1 at all. The worst imo is some aesthetic changes of some of the levels and some odd/different enemy encounter changes. Slightly different experience with some items being moved around in different spots compared to Ninja Gaiden Black, but for the most part it's the same game. A stellar action adventure game that anyone should play. Sigma 2 - Easily the worst version of NG2, but it's still a very fun and good action game even unmodded. However, modded with the "Sigma 2 Black" mod makes it immensely more enjoyable like the original NG II. There are significant differences between Sigma 2 and OG NG II, but whether you play it modded or unmodded, you're bound to have a great time. Ninja Gaiden II Black imo has a slightly better "out of the box" experience and has updated fancy graphics too. NG3RE - Great combat but imo everything else kinda sucks. I'm not a huge fan of 3RE but I won't deny it's still a really fun game and the ninja trials mode is a blast to play. It's absolutely worth playthroughs. New mechanics like "steel-on-bone" are extremely cathartic and satisfying. 3RE has some really bad bosses though and some enemy encounters are quite frustrating thanks to Hayashi game design. Overall I'd definitely recommend going through the NG games! Great combat and encounter design which keeps you on your toes and punishes you for slacking. Become a true ninja! Side notes: for people complaining about bad tutorials and the game not telling you certain mechanics - totally valid complaint. Don't let that stop you from enjoying and giving the game a good score though. A little bit of youtube won't hurt you. There's some really amazing tech that has been discovered over the years and it's exciting to find out what new things you can do and accomplish!
NINJA GAIDEN has legacy, that will last generations. It's not NINJA GAIDEN.. if it's not Ryu Hayabusa! 20 years ago, the game flashed its way on original Xbox hardware and showed off insane graphics. I know here it's the Sigma version and there are critics of that. I say they are still playable and competent versions in my mind. Ninja Gaiden has the perfect entry way for a ninja video game. You get pinged by your ninja gf and it's your job to save the duty, protect the world, something like that? It has that perfect balance of gameplay and difficulty for you to learn and adapt. You want to progress further? Better think while playing!
Wish steam had an option to share Mixed review, its an average AI enchanced remaster with low effort possible, it's 2004 game, so expect it to be brutal, unforgiving, even to the point the game will make fun of you and pity you. it's said to be a Hack and Slash game, it may mostly be focused on that genre, yet it also contains LOTS OF PLATFORMING, with extremely clunky moves that it should not even be an option in the first place. one of the biggest Minus about this game is how they hand you Janky parkour or enemy segments, and then a boss right after with no save in-between, this is such a Dirty move. Plus sides are its story, characters, boss fights and multiple ways of handling the situations with different kinds of weapons, and Rachel is the biggest plus. in the end, it is 6/10 at best. get it on sale and be mentally prepared to try out a game that is way more unforgiving than Sekiro. it makes Sekiro look like a Younger sibling
Goaaaaaaaaaaaaated
Ah im gettiing beat up by an old man with nuekooks
