A rage game. A rage game where having a high level scare is required. Which is more enraging. Also the game is really basic.
♡ TLDR ♡
Honestly, just keep this one to nostalgia. Some things are better living in your memories :)
♡ DETAILS ♡
There is no controller support and resolution is locked to a tiny window unless you modify the game files. if you'd like to modify the files to use a controller and fix the resolution, this guide was easy to follow and worked great using notepad: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2212337378 When playing as the girl, the left and right stick is inverted and its just so darn awkward in a 3D space. Perhaps this can be further modified in the game files, but the guide doesn't say anything about it and I dont know enough about code to mess with it. On start up the game is deafeningly loud until it allows you to get into the settings and turn it down 90%. But 1st, you must watch all the pre-game animations - I suggest taking off your headset. When playing as the jester, it doesn't take long to realize why this game may have been really fun back in the late 90s or early 2000s - especially with a young mind. You fly around, collect orbs on a timer, and get scored on your speed and amount of collectables. Pretty sure thats about it. I didn't play long to be honest - I was bored within 5 minutes - the challenge of getting controller support and resolution changes was more entertaining. Oh well! On to the next! /)/) ( . .)

Such a beautiful game. Definitely a little confusing though to actually know what you're supposed to do at first though. Also That one level with the cart things that you get attached to pmo. Probably better on the actual Saturn version
100/100 would dream again
NiGHTS into Dreams...

Time Played:
19.3 Hours
Last Played:
7th of January, 2025 (It's a December Holiday Season tradition)

Though memories of playing this as a no-elder-than-8-year-old (2004 at maximum) are had, those are of a foggy sort, specifically the fog of me having 0 clue what to do in it as a game. Now, coming back after all those years in 2020, then grabbing all of the achievements, I not only was able to grasp it, but turn an enigma into one of my all-time favourite games. Not only is it incredibly-unique, imaginative, and creative, but hosts some of the most festive Christmas content I've seen, and a stage that brings tears of joy to my eyes whenever I play it.
Yay:
+ Plays like nothing else I know of. + The timer is not-at-all obstructive to player enjoyment + Very interesting seeing the level from a platformer (Rather than 2.5D side-scrolling score attack) lens, before becoming NiGHTS + Movement as said entity feels fast, and fluid + Multiple perspectives as NiGHTS in some levels are a nice change of pace. + Soundtrack is among the best I've ever heard. + Character designs, and art-style are adored by me. + Each level is varied, and has its own unique atmosphere + Soft Museum is one of the most unapologetically-joyous things to me in the whole of media. The theming, soundrack, and environment is absolute perfection to me, even if I wish the museum itself had indoor exhibits. + Guiding the car back to the garage in Mystic Forest was loved. + Said stages are also very dreamlike, so the name fits. + I very much enjoyed the ending. + Boss encounters, while not always befitting of the level, are pretty creative, and I loved the neon, abstract art environments on them. + This release includes the option to go with the original Saturn, or PS2 remaster graphics. + Skipping the Ideya Gazebo in favour of blasting through the current course to see how you can improve became a meditative experience for me. + You do not need to get every type of Mepian (Chao precursor) in order to get any achievement. + The Christmas content is as joyous to me as the Soft Museum, and I play it every year. + Behind-the-scenes content is very interesting to me.
Meh:
~ After coming back when on a 3840 X 2160, 240 hertz monitor, some segments felt uncontrollable at the game's FPS. ~ While I love the holiday content, I wish you got both Spring Valley, and Splash Garden, rather than just Spring Valley with different courses. ~ The Mepian system is unexplained, and makes getting them a chore. ~ An atmosphere system exists based on how you treat them, but I never noticed any effects.
Nay:
- Klaws is needlessly cryptic as a boss, and I had to look up what to do to beat them. - Locking the final two levels behind getting a passing rank on the character's previous one feels a bit needlessly punishing... - ...and can cause frustration, because nothing in-game tells you the amount of time you have left after grabbing a Mare (Course)'s Ideya does not influence how much it refills for. Zipping through at 1 second left will restore the timer to 99, as will arriving at 60.

Verdict:
Even with downsides, the good shines above the bad, and while I'm sad they de-listed it, if you can get it, I would absolutely recommend you do.
Placed in:
1: Fantastically-Favoured.
