i don't really like Grainy film games and at the end the Ai was stuck and had to walk up to it to end the game. this game was ok at best.
Not good. Graphics are harsh on the eyes with the vhs filter, and the story makes next to no sense with how it unfolds. Gameplay is basically find note telling where key is -> go find key -> open door -> repeat 6 times. Also, standing near a key creates this ABSOLUTELY INSANE distortion effect that both blinds you and makes it so you cant see anything. Oh and there is AI slop artwork everywhere in the game.

"Nightmare Visions Chapter 1" is not a game. It's an advertisement for a product called "Nightmare Visions" (well, the additional chapters, which haven't even been made yet). Nightmare Visions is a basic, badly done asset flip, and this advertisement for it was slapped together as a "challenge" in an insufficient time to make a game properly, and published on Steam to advertise the next (presumably laughably expensive) chapters. And as a "game", it's shaping up to be awful, your usual run of the mill asset flipped first person horror adventure, except interactive gameplay was too hard for the developer so the series is going to be more like a basic, linear walking sim. But this isn't completely relevant because this is not Nightmare Visions, it's just an advertisment for it, so it's not correct to try to review that completely distinct product. We must instead review this for what it is... an advertisement. If you enjoy advertisements, you can consume them for free on the web or on Youtube without needing to add them to your game library, download them, and then launch the advertising. It's impossible in a general sense to recommend people should do that over playing real, full games on Steam, and that applies here with "Nightmare Visions Chapter 1" too. Usually the purpose of these advertisements is to get you to shell out money to the developer to buy the full product, but the developer hasn't bothered actually making a product you can buy, leaving this as an advertisement for nothing. We must question what value this pointless advertising has for gamers... and the answer is "none". Due to the poor public response amongst gamers for this advertisement, it seems unlikely the developer will go on to make the full product. This is not a sincerely made product, it was made for a game jam, which is a problem. It was done in a constrained period of time; professional game development takes years of effort from teams of talented and qualified people. A "game" slapped together in a weekend by an amateur simply isn't going to have any value for gamers, and that plays out clearly with this shovelware. Also, products created in game jams were never intended for gamers, they exist only to stroke the ego of amateur developers who can't get a real job in the industry. When developers, especially untalented ones, put themselves before gamers, garbage like "Nightmare Visions Chapter 1" is the inevitable result. It's improper for shovelware like this to be published through Steam Direct, because it's harmful. This half-baked, rushed, non-professional product, not designed for gamers, is taking up space on the Steam store that should be given over to genuine, talented developers who do the right thing and make fully developed, not rushed products for gamers. This makes it harder for gamers like you and me to find these genuinely made products. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. As an advertisement, this is only free in the same way that adverts on Youtube and banner ads in your browser are. This is a game demo that's been dumped on Steam to advertise another Steam store page in the hopes of raking in some cash. Just because advertisements are free, doesn't mean they're worth your time. It's important to understand there's a formal process to create a demo/page for a game which hasn't been followed here: https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/store/application/demos While it might seem like an inocuous mistake, publishing demos and advertisements as if they are full games is misleading and in some ways harmful. This advertisement is taking up marketing space and visibility that would be better made available to a developer that's done the right thing and created a full game. Instead, that visibility is given over to a demo/advert that's been published incorrectly and is polluting the marketplace. It's unclear if this mistake was made through incompetence or a deliberate intent to mislead gamers. Often developers may choose to incorrectly publish demo/advertisements as separate games as a cheap way to bypass paying Valve for marketing presence on the Steam front page, which may seem clever to them, but it's harmful behaviour and it's not good for gamers. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 13 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Advertisements and incorrectly published demos don't add +1 to your game collector count, they aren't full games. It's impossible for me to recommend this incorrectly published advertising spam to gamers, you deserve better than adverts.
I got this game while it was free. My kiddos wanted to try our own "spooky tiiiiime" game; read some reviews online and decided to give it a shot. This is the perfect game for older kiddos or even adults that are just starting to get into spooky games. It's scary enough to make you gasp, but it's not so scary you can't laugh about it with friends or family and it won't make you want to close the game. This was a fun short game! Took us maybe about 45 minutes to get through.
https://youtu.be/CATDCQqHENk
