This game fails in so many ways, most of them being bugs. The last they updated this was dec 27 2019 (from what I can tell about a news post) so this most likely won't change. The core game mechanic is interesting, but it's stretched out for way too long. I got tired of it by the halfway mark. The puzzles are fine, only got stuck on a few. The problem comes when a puzzle will glitch or let you progress when it clearly wasn't supposed to. This makes solving the puzzle feel like a chore if you can pass it without needing to solve it. AN example of this is a device needing two buttons pressed down, using two blocks, then only needing one. Key items needed to progress can disappear. Why? Because restarting a level restarts it to a saved point and no further. If you flipped a switch, that switch is still flipped. Good when backtracking for stamina, bad when the game suddenly decides you must have gotten the item before you left, so now it's gone. Abilities gained throughout the game are good. Mostly centered around platforming rather than mechanical puzzle solving, with the exception of the light bulb. But, there's problems with the controls. When I first changed the keybindings, I noticed that the menu and gameplay controls cannot be the same... even though they're the same by default. If you have this game, try putting wasd for both menu navigation and character control. It doesn't work. The first time I quit the game was because of a bug keeping me on a loading screen, unable to do anything. I launched the game later and all my keybindings were reset. Future launches of the game kept these keybindings, so not too bad. Night Lights is a mediocre puzzle game with many bugs. It's an interesting idea, but not much further than that. 4/10 Edit: finished the game, wow it is poorly made. I shouldn't be able to find two dozen bugs through a single playthrough, without trying. Leaning towards 3/10 now
Night Lights is not a bad game per se. The different levels are actually pretty fun to figure out. The main issue is that the game has a buggy saving system, which can lead to game-breaking bugs that force you to start over, as it only has a single autosave. The game gives the impression that there is a vast map of puzzle rooms to explore freely in any order. However, if you decide to leave a puzzle before fully completing it — perhaps because you feel stuck and want to finish it later — the game will save the current state of the puzzle, but sometimes with errors. Specific items you need to progress can mysteriously disappear, and unfortunately, the game does not offer any option to fully reset a level. If you decide to get this game, I can only recommend never leaving a room before fully completing it. By "completing a room," I mean unlocking the exit portal and making sure to collect all the crystals in the room before leaving. I doubt the bugs will ever be fixed. I saw a post in the forum from 2022 where some players encountered one of the two bugs I experienced. Additionally, both the developer and publisher names have disappeared from the game stores title page, which might mean they are now inactive.
Cannot recommend for the shear volume of game breaking bugs, all involving the "lamp". I've restarted this game from scratch 4 times only to find, yet another instance of "lamp" breaking bug (not about to restart the game for a 5th time) - and I also noticed that the achievements are not unlocking, even though I've completed the requirement for either "flames" or abilities. Please, don't install or purchase this game. It should have never left early access. If the game wasn't as broken as it is, then I would have given it a better review.
NIght Lights is a medium-level minimalist puzzle platformer. There are about 50 small levels, so the game can easily be played in small sessions (or weekend binged, because it's really fun & addictive). There are a handful of power-ups spaced evenly in the game which let you access more of the map/levels, and the game gets a bit easier once you have some of these skills. Not less challenging, just easier to do the things you need to do to get 'up there', 'over here', or 'down yonder'. There are a few glitches (mostly boundary issues), but no anger-inducing bugs. I had to reset a few levels after getting stuck off-screen, but the levels play pretty quickly so I only lost a few moments due to re-starting them. NOTE - One of the achievements is a 2-hour gameplay completion limit. If you want to explore and collect all of the little battery charge bolts, going for 100% items found and perfecting each level, this isn't going to be something you're likely to get on a first playthrough. Can't say that I'm a fan of this type of achievement. I think time challenges are fun small-scale (levels), but take the 'game' out of the game when they're used in such a broad scope. YMMV.
we recommend gladly! the game was fun and we enjoyed the puzzles a lot. We even managed to get all bolts and power cells without watching any solutions. the puzzles are challenging, but no unsurmountable if you're quite observant of your envirronment (for once my adhd was useful x) the only downsides would be that you really need to hold on on the game until to get at least the double jump ability, because the platforming parkour in the early game can feel very VERY punishing when you have to be pixel perfect to land on a platform (not even to get a secret, a mandatory platform you absolutely need to progress in the game). The pixel perfect element never entirely goes away, but reaching platforms without retrying the entire level from the ground feels like a breath of fresh air with abilities. And the second downside is that you don't get any achievement (or any kind of reward) for collecting all the bolts and power cells collectible. when you spend a lot of energy and curiosity looking everywhere for every single bolts, especially when some of them are frickin hidden out of bounds, it feels really sad and unfullfilling to not have the game aknowledge these efforts and to discover that the hidden achievement is instead a speedrun achievment.
ta jebana gra nawet nie działa, buguje sie ♥♥♥♥♥ wszystko i gra sama sie wyłącza
