Never Second in Rome

Another great game alongside A Legionary's Life. The quality and detail that went into the story, music, artwork & ruleset is excellent. Common sense and some basic knowledge of Roman history can progress you well enough but it's worth taking the time to read the tooltips for all the different modifiers & systems. As a Centurion you are in charge of leading & managing a Century, a unit that is part of a Cohort, the basic combat maneuver formation of a Roman Legion. From training, trading, morale, random events/occurrences, historical events, camp duties, engineering projects, the game blends RPG, Roguelike & strategy elements together and also adds a new Formation battle system that brilliantly also integrates the individual combat system from the first game into these larger battles. You are not expected to be a hero & the rules strive for realism and do a great job at simulating this, everything down to fatigue, morale, cohesion, front ranks, soldiers breaking off formation in pursuit, formation degradation, armor protection/quality the push and pull of melee battle and decision making that matters which makes for alot of re-playability and different outcomes. Danger, rewards & consequences are always one tempting decision away so you should moderate your desires to be inline with your skills or do so at great risk which might seem ruthlessly unforgiving but most games lack this freedom which makes this one clearly stand out amongst the rest.
