I feel as though this game is the first to actually bring me down to write a serious review here on Steam. Not because it's bad, but there was something about it that kept me wanting to keep going and playing it. Maybe the fact that not a lot of people either have heard about it was why... With that, there’s also room for improvement; and I'm going to go into detail why. Presentation: I can imagine some people being turned off by the subject matter and goal of the game, but that’s to be expected. What I like about the title screen is the music. The music does an overall good job getting the horror atmosphere across. The tutorial presentation is lacking though. The 3D models used for the side characters of the protagonist could be improved. It seems like the texturing could be a bit better, along with the animations. The father character sometimes just has his mouth open all the time during the cut-scenes. It was apparent during the tutorial level, and sometimes even the later cutscenes. The pacing of the cut-scenes that happen during Nekomew’s nightmares needs a bit of adjusting. I know that the dialogue and such happens because it’s in tune of the music, but sometimes there are just moments of waiting for the next dialogue box that last for a bit too long. Perhaps if that were fixed, then I wouldn’t have much else to say. I played this game in English, as I noticed there were some misspelled words and such and a few grammatical errors. I won’t fault the developer too much since I’m assuming English was not their first language (the trailer for the game released on YouTube had mostly Spanish comments), rather just mention that there were some of those present. I was still able to understand the dialogue regardless of the errors present. The pacing may also be because it was designed for Spanish as apposed to English? I’m not sure Controls: This is a horror game that centers its mechanics mainly to be in rhythm to the music that’s played during the game. I was able to understand how the game is played rather quickly while my other friends who played it did not (I let them try it out to see what they thought about the game too). I’m willing to guess the reason why my friends did not quickly grasp the controls/understand how to play was because of the tutorial. In presenting the controls, it does a subpar job explaining how to use them with the control layout. It only explained how to use the buttons and what to watch out for by practicing the controls with no nightmare monsters. The text given for how to deal with the monster is a bit vague (especially the first monster). There was no physical demonstration of the controls with what monster the player needed to use to deal with them (only with the father). The one thing a player should not feel is "unfair", like it was the “game’s” fault for not 100% with explaining the controls because it leads to frustration rather than them wanting to continue playing. GamePlay: The objective is for Nekomew to reach from his bedroom to the bathroom from a ridiculously long hallway by avoiding the nightmare monsters with either closing your eyes, covering your ears, and/or shining you light at them. The idea of having to multitask is a neat concept that goes alongside the gameplay. The one concern I have is that sometimes, the randomness of when the monsters spawn leads to impossibly difficult ways to get past them. One example that occurred often was when I had two nightmare monsters that both came after me from the front and the back. There is nothing I can if they both catch me at the same time. There is detection of when the monster needs to fade out for if you’re close to the end of the level, so I feel as though an improvement to the RNG to monsters chasing after you would be helpful. Extras: The extras content that is present in the game is from what I can gather, the only incentive to replay the levels again as it gives you access to some extra levels, and a gallery depending on how much achievements you completed per level. Which is great if you’re up for the challenge. Conclusion: Overall, despite my length critique on the game, I still had a good time with it. I’m also still willing to recommend it despite it’s flaws to only those who are curious with rhythmic horror games, and not turned off by the subject matter. The one thing I'd like is to be able to have is the music for the game to be released as a Steam DLC content labeled as the game soundtrack (or released online), as there’s currently no viable way to get them, as I would pay for downloading the OST.
From a game that has such a stupid fetish-y premise, fursonas and Sonic OC characters, it's actually really interesting and IMMENSELY difficult to beat. Seriously, you better have good rhythym or else you'll never complete it. Jesus Christ
I bought this game. I played through 3 levels. The mechanics are solid. The gimmicks are great to play with. The jumpscares are cute. But... you are a kid trying to not piss himself. And I am a furry who's seen the weird side of the fandom. Mixed emotions but still, Solid game experience.
An adorable game, innocent in appearance, but at the same time hides a very dark story, full of traumas and blurred memories. With each level you discover one more chapter of the sinister truth that these nightmares hide. The difficulty increases every night and the nightmares get worse and worse. The grim and harsh reality is enclosed in the extra levels of the game, the most difficult to overcome. It's a game where sounds/rhythm are important. The story draws you in and surprises you with the final events. It has a tone of “satanic sarcasm”.
So far i've played the demo last year, was a bit challenging for the most part. but now that its out on steam officially I'd figure I should give it a revisit. It's surprisingly addicting but pretty hard to be on tempo, but then again i could use an upgrade on my kb. The way the enemies mix in progressing levels is pretty fun, might encounter some bugs, but nothing game breaking. Some dialouge could be tweaked a bit, english must be a second language to the team, but I got the gist of it. It's cute, challenging, and a bit surprising. Also the character reminds me of klonoa, hecc yeah.
Good game, This story is really interesting. Maybe it's just me because I;m pretty bad at this kinda game, but as I got farther in the game, I felt like I wanted to just run through and become one of the nightmares. Sometimes It got annoying with the timing of things, but otherwise a good game, Sounds are really important, but sounds make you wish you were deaf sometimes, and maybe blind because I mean, I'm not a furry.... and I saw more of an animal than I really wanted to, so bonus points on the horror aspect. 9.3/10 Makes me hate hallways even more so.

My son loved It. His next birthday will have a Nekomew theme.
tl;dr, Story is kinda dumb. Gameplay is solid. Interesting monster designs, hate the other characters and location designs. Thankfully not fetish-y. Okay so. Story's pretty simple, family of three moves to a new house, kid starts having nightmares, and like any kid, he gets spooked awake and almost pees himself, so now with the help of a little (apparently sentient) doll he found (which doubles as a flashlight) to guide him through and light the way he has to walk carefully to the bathroom and not get spooked along the way by his night terrors. I think they actually portrayed the scenario fairly tastefully, the other reviews weren't lying when they said it doesn't come off as fetish-y. It feels like a reasonable scenario, how it would seem to the mind of a child. He sees the monsters from his nightmares in the hall on the way, and has to act accordingly to not get spooked by them. (I'll get more into that later) Still think the story is dumb though.
I guess there's like, been kidnappings in the area, and the nightmares he gets I think are supposed to be like his gut feeling telling him there's more wrong than just the fact that his family's just moved, which can already be a worrying scenario for a kid. Anyway, there are little cutscenes that show small stuff like what appears to be a burglar/maybe the kidnapper sneaking around at night, or Nekomew's dad seeing a missing child poster just casually up on a neighbor's fence. Also there are a good handful of odd translation choices, like in this case the "Missing Child" poster literally reads, "Missing Kid".
The story is just kinda drab and lame. They do a good job of showing things from Nekomew's perspective, especially the brief nightmare scenes, but outside of that, it's just bad. The gameplay is interesting. Oddly enough, despite it being a rhythm game, you don't have to be constantly moving with the rhythm, just aware of it. There's one monster that will scare him if you don't walk to the rhythm, but the rest just seem to have timing cues that you only need to worry about at one point, rather than the entire time the monster is present. Basically, you can move off-beat to hurry on to the bathroom faster if you're careful about when you do it. It's surprisingly well put together, gameplay-wise. My one gripe in that department is that the default Dualshock controls say X to move, Square to use your flashlight, but instead Square is movement, Triangle is flashlight. You can edit the controls, of course, but it bothers me that the default says one thing while the actual controls say another. Then there's character design. You can tell from looking at the game that it's bad. Nekomew literally seems to be a recolor of Tails from Sonic. The models of his parents look really dull and unappealing, and just seem kind of like a pair of throwaway fursonas. The locations are colorful, but basic and bare-bones. The monsters are the only redeeming thing in the design department, they have exaggerated but creepy designs loosely based on whatever his nightmares were about. Oh, also, I just want to add, the little flashlight-doll he finds in the house gives me major Coraline vibes, The doll has gray fur and a blue nightgown, Nekomew is grey in blue PJ's, it just feels very Coraline inspired, and I can appreciate that. In conclusion, I personally don't think it's a good game. If you're on the rocks about it, don't try it. If it still sounds like it could be fun to you, give the demo a go and see if you enjoy the gameplay before committing to it. Edit: Never mind, two of the monsters later on have bullspit timing cues. It brings up the little "good timing!" sign when I flash my light at them, then they spook Nekomew anyway? And there's no notes for correction like, "Too soon!/Too slow!" to help you figure out the timing. I didn't mind this with earlier monsters, as the visual cues made it clear enough, and it wasn't too hard to figure out. But when it's giving me "Good timing" signs, then I get the scare anyway, that's baloney. Garbage.
