It breaks my heart to give a negative review to one of my all-time favorite PS3 games. The E3 trailer might still be the greatest trailer ever made, I still watch it occasionally! But this PC remaster is a letdown. The graphics are barely improved, if at all, and seem to be just upscaled. Worse, the game suffers from random, game-ruining freezes that can destroy a race in an instant. Achievements take up to a full minute to unlock, if they unlock at all. And then there’s the online mode, which remains as frustrating as ever. Lobby wait times are endless, you can’t choose a specific lobby, just hit "Find" and hope for the best. As with most online games, the community is toxic, and cheating is rampant. This isn’t unique to this game, but it’s time to stop tying achievements to multiplayer. If the online achievements weren’t mandatory, I’d have happily ignored this mess. Oh one last thing, it is incredinly hard to run it on the Steamdeck because 99% of the time the EA launcher will mess up the focus with its overlay and the game will be irresponsive (I worked around by playing with the volume button and touching the screen simultaneously). This stupid launcher... It’s a real shame, because the offline career, especially as a cop, is still incredibly fun!
A fairly well done remaster. The driving physics are just ok but at least they don't suck. There's plenty of different races to keep you busy for a good while and honestly I had a lot more fun playing as a cop than I thought I would. The different utilities made things a little more interesting but also kinda blur the lines between racing game and kart racer. Not a bad racing game but felt like not really a great one either.
Amazing experience overall so far for $6. Glad this is still on here with the license deals.
DRM: EA on-line activation and Origin client software installation and background use required.
Хорошая игра! Звук турбо - просто рай для ушей! Гонки, полиция и скорость. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3244241501
Have been playing this since the original on the Xbox 360 with my dad. I'm much more of an FPS gamer, but this game has never failed to hook me. I absolutely adore it and I could play it endlessly. The different cars are just really fun to drive, and the map is really cool in some areas. It's not too difficult of a game, especially when compared to other racing games or other Need for Speed games. It's really easy to pick up and just casually drive. I only have two issues with the game out of all the years I've been playing; the cops are just not very fun. Not that they're hard, it's that playing as the racers have always been endlessly more enjoyable than ever playing cops. To put it short; I find the cop levels boring. My second problem with the game also originates from the cops. Anytime a cop is present in your race, it plays the most bland, garbage music in the game. How are you going to tell me that in the middle of my song, you shut it off to play whatever the hell this is? The moment I see a cop on screen, my enjoyment gets sucked away as fast as I just hit that poor family of 5 while I'm flying down the oncoming lane. If the track was better I wouldn't mind it as much, but it's easily the worst song in the entire game. Despite both of those things, I love the game. If you're playing with KBM, for most of the game you can play with one hand if that interests you. I do wish I could up the framerate from 60, but the game still looks great and it doesn't bother me too much. For $6 on sale, there's hours of playtime for you. If I'm not mistaken, there's also an online mode. No clue if it's still alive or not, I only played it once years ago on the Xbox One and my experience was okay. All in all, I've got fond memories of this one and will surely play it even years into the future.
game freezes constantly, whether it be from players hitting a spike strip or just trying to activate turbo. lobby keeps kicking everyone out 3 seconds before the game starts leaving just me and someone else (unless i host myself)
The game itself is pretty good, nice visuals and engaging racing. I had a lot of fun. However, online play is too unstable now to play properly, and EA isn't fixing this game. If you're only interested in playing the single-player content or racing leaderboards, wait for a sale to get it around $5. I think autolog still works. Otherwise, do not buy, you will not get a good online experience. Edit: I see other reviews mentioning the game also freezes up offline? Singleplayer against the AI racers? I can't test this since I don't have the storage to download this game again, but if that's true, then beware.
This game is now dead - every attempt to launch it results in the pesky EA app popping up and said there's problem at their end. AMD Radeon users particularly affected. But they won't fix it as it's an old game.
