Or were you deaf or were you blind when you left your two fine legs behind, Or was it sailing on the sea when you got the cannonball to your knee, I too was young and I was slim and I had a leg for every limb, But now I’ve got no legs at all, they were both shot away by a cannonball.

About

Admiral John Byng who spent his life sailing the seas for the British Navy, died in 1757, by bullets on the deck of HMS Monarch. Admiral Horatio Nelson, carrying on with the utmost duty, fell similarly to a French musket shot in 1805.
Now it is YOUR turn to sail the seas of the Age of Sail.
But it would be wise to approach the subject cautiously: practice, improve your skill and your ship and connections with allies. Then you can commandeer best vessels: crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear lamentations of their women in global chat.
.......................................................................................................................................................
Naval Action is a hardcore, realistic, and beautifully detailed naval combat game immersing players into the experience of the most beautiful period of naval history - when sailing ships ruled the seas.
Age of sail combat is a personal affair with no dirty tricks, corner camping, or hiding in bushes: you see the enemy from 20km and so do they. Just like in boxing you have to get close; and use all your tactical knowledge of wind, your ship to slug it out face to face. Broadside weight matters, but even a smaller vessel can overcome the superior enemy by focusing on the enemy weak spots.
No game has come closer to the replication of the Age of Sail sailing mechanics and combat. Thats why Naval action was named one best releases from early access in 2019 by Valve!
Beautiful ships – We have been painstakingly recreating the beautiful ships of the Age of sail period. Accurate hull models, sail plans, guns, internal upgrades, historical speed trials were used in the creation of vessels. The game features 50+ ships from small cutters to large 100+ gun 1st rates allowing the player to experience every possible role of that era.

Realistic sailing – Advanced wind and physics model provides for realistic portrayal of ship’s performance in the age of sail. Yard angles, ship angle to wind, fittings and ship condition affects speeds and turning rates. Correct tacking, boxhauling, clubhauling and other elements of realistic sailing will help you win battles in most adverse conditions.
Conquest and PVP Activities Fight for the domination of the West Indies, recreated based on 18th Century maps and navigational charts. Build ships, trade, attack enemies of your nation almost everywhere and capture their ships and Open trading outposts in the ports governed by your clan.
Damage model – Every cannonball is tracked in the air and after it hits the target. Leaks, structural damage, torn sails, demasting, raking, fires, explosions and all other hazards that were possible in that era. Damage is positional: hit the gun and you might destroy it. Gunnery crews are placed deck by deck. Shot can pass through the balcony, ricochet of the gun, hit a crew member and then fly out of the gunport splashing into the water. Armor thickness and wood types affect strength of the hull and cannonballs will ricochet from the hulls at extreme angles.
Built for PVP: Absolutely no hackers.
Hacking is a killer of fun in PVP games. From the start we have built the tech around one main goal - complete elimination of hacking from PVP. Naval Action is one of the few games where hacking is made impossible by design. Every battle action is calculated on the servers, even water and wave shapes. Yes - you have heard it right: there is a special server that calculates and replicates waves to all users in battle. When fighting in Naval action you can be sure you are only facing skills and ship fittings.
Gunnery and weapons – Major types of naval artillery are implemented: from long guns to mortars to carronades and obusiers. Fort and land batteries will provide you with support during battles near shores. Mortar vessels can destroy fortifications, though they may require an escort.

Each gun has realistic ballistics and penetration performance based on historical gun charts and admiralty tests. Heel and wind affect the shooting distance and will require a change in tactics.

Developers have ripped the heart out of this game, inventing entirely unfun systems and reinventing systems that worked just fine.

it is the most realistic sailing naval combat game. the main issue that a lot of players have with this game is its a long grind to bigger ships and a little pay to win. for new players i wouldnt recomend
Not playing for 100 hours just to make enough to buy gunpowder. I loved this game before the update but now it has been absolutely trashed by the developers. What a shame.
This game used to be absolutely amazing. When it first came out, there was nothing like it. It was incredible. The "simulation" type of sailing; the combat was impeccable. It wasn't an absolute grind just to be able to play the game. Then the paid DLCs started coming. The "I'm not going to play the game to progress, I'm just going to buy a DLC with an OP ship" --- I usually have no quarrels with DLCs, but these DLCs are literally "hey, give us £50 (FIFTY!!!) and you can have this historically accurate looking ship that also is more overpowered than most ships you'd be able to obtain using in-game methods for quite some time" On top of that, there are no restrictions to which battles you can or can't join now, really. Which means that what used to be fun World PVP has just turned into getting swarmed by groups of gankers. Good luck finding an even battle, and if you managed to find a battle even in numbers, chances are there are some spenders there anyway that you just won't be able to stand up against. And then, if they didn't think it was bad enough that they basically turned the game into a "if you want to actually do anything on this game other than log in, sail around on your own, do a solo mission/battle or two and enjoy the aesthetics, you'll have to either grind for months or give us money"... They decided to make you have to grind all day to be able to do anything anyway. The gunpowder and shot system, while it makes sense, is just stupid. You can spend hours trying to craft enough powder and shot to last you.. one sea battle. Don't get me wrong, the graphics are amazing, the sailing is amazing, the actual mechanics of combat is fun, PvP battles were fun, This game was incredible. And now.. it's just not. If the devs decide to turn things around, open a seasonal server where you can't obtain paid ships/bonuses, and figure out a way of killing the ridiculous grinds you have to do just to actually play (again, play, not just enjoy) the game, then it still has potential. For me.. I'm waiting for another developer to look at this and decide to take it back to 2019.
i started on day one it hit steam, it was rough. i and most of my friends went back to pirates of the burning sea at the time. i continued to watch it and pop in over the years. it looked like it was a sinking ship going down. BUT that last major revamp update i have to say did the best job and i am making a real run at playing it. dispite my hours i still dont have much more cause my account was reset 4 times threw all the revamps, the econ and combat seems really fun and cuts out a lot of grind. also the comunity as a whole s friendly and helps each other.
this is the first time ive had a game that all my friends played. then watched as the developers made the game the worst thing we have ever endured. i bought dlc back when the game was fun, i regret that dearly now. this is the only time i will ever say this. but if they reverted this games updates be a few years, then we would play it again.
EN: I played this game a couple of times in late 2024/early 2025. Now, I logged in in 2026, and my account and character, along with the ship I worked so hard to get (La Renomeé), have been deleted. Also, as the comments say, the graphics may be beautiful, but there are fewer players, and many of the few remaining are dedicated to ruining the experience for new players (and those who help are few and far between, but there is a nice part of the community). In 2024, the grinding was slow, but according to what I read in the comments, by 2026 it's totally awful; it takes up ALL your time. The developers seem to care little about the game anymore, because currently they only seem to want to ruin it more and more. Just skip this game, guys.
It was already time consuming with few till zero progress and outmost boredom when it was for free. Now paying for it woud be like paying to receive the permission to fold the same carton again and again. The title is not correct: Naval Boredom woulld be more correct. Sorry, my opinion.
