Nancy Drew®: Trail of the Twister

Worth it! This is a fun Nancy Drew game. Many but not all of the puzzles were the self-contained puzzle-book type. They were engaging and fun. In other games the tedious puzzles make me want to be done with them so I can progress in the game It was a real who-dun-it, too. My suspect kept changing as more clues were discovered. And there was a few humorous parts that made me chuckle. In Tale of the Twister when you call your friends and boss you have a conversation about what is happening and getting your friends perspective, like you might in the real world. In the past using the phone seemed like just a means to get some hints, which didn't make much sense.

I've played all games up until this one (game 22) (minus game 20, as I got into ND only recently) and I expected this to be really bad and boring because everyone seems to rank it very low but it's ... fine? I'd actually say it's quite good. Yes most of the puzzles are basically chores but they don't feel tedious and give you variety (unlike other chore-heavy games (looking at you, White Wolf)). I also like how the game has a lot of puzzles of decent difficulty. At first I thought the mystery was really meaningless but it actually got intriguing and I wanted to continue playing to find out what was happening. So don't get discouraged from the bad reputation this game gets, see for yourself and you might find a very solid and fun B-Tier Nancy Drew game. Stay away from the screenshots on Steam though, some spoil the culprit and ending without having a spoiler warning.

As an avid Nancy Drew game player and long-time fan of the franchise, Trail of the Twister is by far my least favorite game of HeR Interactive that I've played. It's very puzzle heavy and light on the story, making it feel more like performing chores than playing a game. The narrative isn't nearly as engrossing as the others, and the drive to complete the game was very low for me. The puzzles tended to come with less instruction than needed sometimes, and I had to use online hints waaaaaaay more than normal. I usually use one or two a game, but for this one I needed it more often than not. There weren't as many interesting plot points as the other games have, which weren't balanced well with the number of tasks or effort/time required to complete them. Very disappointed in this installment of the series.

Worst game ever! Some of the characters were unlikable, the plotline was absurd, and the puzzles were extremely difficult. Overall, the game was very insipid.

I like this game. It's probably a high B tier ND game I think the puzzles are fun in this one and the characters are developed pretty well. The game has charming scenery and a good sized map. Would recommend!
