This is a new 2022/2023 port of the original game. Yes there is a 2015 port on Steam as well. I own that one as well. My opinion is, this new port is worth the $ and worth it to those who own the other port to buy like I did. The game plays smoother, The video, controls and sound seem better than the 2015 Version. There are more configuration options and you can save the game in progress. I have no regrets buying another version of this awesome classic game. This is worth it. WHAT ITS NOT: If you are expecting HD 2022 Graphics that's not what it is. Compared to today's graphics it aint perty. But the fun is still there. The Great Music by The Crystal Method is still there. And the Challenge is still there .. oh and the Psychedelia is still groovy!. I say buy it . Nice job Gremlin and Pixel Games. Nice job indeed.
An unforgivably poor "port" of the PSX original. As with the bulk of Pixel Games UK's back catalogue, N2O runs as a PSX-emulated version on the back of a modified version of RetroArch. This in an of itself wouldn't be a bad thing, but it doesn't even support the most elementary features of an PSX emulator, let alone the bespoke features you would expect to find in a standalone release (achievements, etc.) for which money is demanded. Memory card functionality is broken, such that if you attempt to save a game on the virtual memory card, that data will be lost upon restart; your only recourse is to use the internal save state functionality. The emulator also offers up no DualShock support, which is a deal-breaker for this game; the original PSX version made superb use of the analogue controls. Accordingly, both the analogue stick and d-pad respond as digital control.
You have no idea how long I've been looking for this game. Apparently the framerates suck when in borderless so make sure you set it to fullscreen
The game doesn't save anything. Your score and settings reset every time you boot it. It has save states (because this is actually an emulator) but it crashes when you load a save state, which means it has FEWER features than the original game from 1998 AND fewer features than a PSX emulator. If they fix this, I'll revise to thumbs-up, but they probably won't because it's been out for 2 years already.
that game is fire, literally the best game i've ever played
This game was one of my super-jams as a kid, and I am glad they brought it to Steam, even in an emulated form.
cant save progress due to a bug 😢
