Mundus - Impossible Universe (Match-3) This is a colorful match-3 game with a lot going for it, but I'm going to have to give this game a negative rating due to the dev's decision to modify what seems to be a modified Pay-to-win that will eventually become unplayable. Let me explain: We start with basic, swap-to-match-3 mechanics, with a new goal for each each level. As you progress more and more types of gameplay are introduced, such as bringing items to the bottom of the screen, collecting gold hidden inside rocks, teleportation nodes, matching butterflies before they can fly away, etc. You have a set number of moves per level. If you have moves left when you reach the level's goal, it will throw bombs out onto the field, which will break more items and get you more $$. You will gain a star for each level you complete, as well as gold (the amount varies depending on how many items you clear during the level.) Stars are used to purchase decorations for the planet you are on. Gold is a different matter. If you don't complete your level-goal within the number of moves provided, you can continue by paying for 5 more moves. Fail again? Pay again (etc) until you finish. You do have the option of starting over from scratch, and there will be no money out of pocket for that. Money is also used for:

Power-ups (once unlocked)
Unlocking new worlds
Here is where the game breaks. Eventually you're going to HAVE to have power-ups and/or more moves in order to finish a level, and once you run out of money, that's it! You cannot progress any further. It's a shame that people aren't going to be able to complete the game, because it's such a vibrant and fun-to-play game. If the devs will update this to give us SOME way to earn money - whether that be by allowing us to collect money as we play or giving it to us in real time - then I will change my rating to a positive. As it stands, I'm afraid that I have to give this game a failing grade.
Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Mundus: Impossible Universe Review
Have you ever played Match-3 games? If yes, then this game is for you that comes with lots of new elements and content to explore. The perfect combination of Strategy, Puzzle, and Match-3 elements will set you on an epic journey full of surprises and thrill. Before starting the game, you should need to polish your matching skills if you want to dominate the universe. There are many fun-filled levels and each one is set on a grid-based map where you need to match at least three same-colored ancient relics to make them fly to earn points. The more you play, the more you learn and master, the only role to rule over the game.
Join the Great Shaman
The story follows a great Shaman, who is waiting for you to embark on an epic quest where you will navigate the impossible universe. Set out on a match-3 adventure over a huge universe that contains 12 exciting worlds with unique rewards and dangers. In each world, lots of challenges await you to be completed. The completion of levels will reward you with the star that you can use to unlock additional content.
Match Relics Your Way through Levels
Like other Match-3 games, you should match three or more gens of the same color to make them disappear from the hexagonal field and repeat the process until the screen gets empty. You start playing the game with one world while others are locked and require the completion of assigned levels to get unlocked. The difficulty level will increase as you approach new stages and will reveal further boosters to help you in completing tasks within no time.
Earn Gold Coins and Rebuild the Empire
The main objective is to build your empire using a variety of objectives like houses, structures, trees, and more. Each completed level will reward you items that you required to build your beautiful village with different objects. Every planet comes with a unique setting and background scenery to explore. Most players love to play puzzle games, but some players found it difficult to play because of its quite easy interface and simple gameplay. But this game won’t come with the same feeling and never let you bore. Each planet is offering a unique environment to explore and a set of gems that makes you feel new gameplay every time you come to play.
Relaxed Soundtracks and Countless Puzzle Levels
Considering the game easy to play will be a huge mistake because the impressive graphics and engaging gameplay will embark on a journey like never before. As we mentioned above, there are tons of levels and each level introduces a quite unique puzzle to solve. You just require the tilt-matching skills to win the match. Once you reach the master level, there will be no obstacle that you can’t overtake.
The Verdict
As compared to other Match-3 games, it comes with distinctive gameplay, though it offers a similar interface and the traditional match-3 mechanics. There are lots of planets that you have to explore by completing levels and unlocking additional content to get access to building materials. Rate: 9/10
This is a mobile game too, and I expect that's where it was intended to live. And that's fine. However.... Although there are no IAPs in the Steam version, these are clearly intended to be the revenue source. But the PC version has not been updated at all to reflect this. So what you end up with is very, very obvious paywalls where the difficulty pretty much demands that you buy more coins/power-ups; but you can't. Even if you want/need to. And you shouldn't want or need to do so. (Even in the mobile version, IMO. But that's a rant for another time.) There are some nice touches, like the hexagonal tiled levels. The graphics are pretty decent, and the whole thing runs smoothly. But I can't recommend it just based on the brutal difficulty. (Unless you know how to give yourself a 'slight advantage', which is the only reason I'll continue to play it, rather than demand a refund.) Edit: Further to the above, I'm now at level 107, and I'm even more convinced that without a little help, this game would be impossible to complete on the PC. I've played very few levels recently where I've not needed at least 1 or 2 coin-based extensions to play on. With a bit more luck/patience I imagine some of them may be possible. But not in a casual, fun way. And since there is no way to even grind coins, once you get to a very, very hard level and don't have enough money, you're basically stuffed. (Has anyone completed level 105 without a ton of power-ups and continues?) In addition, the hex tiles, while a nice variation at first, become increasingly irritating when there are two possible ways the tiles above could fall. The basic logic used seems to be this; whichever direction you expect, want or need the tiles above to fall - well, that's not it. The 'conveyor belt' levels also seem fun at first. But as the complexity of the paths increases the whole thing just becomes a chaotic mess which adds to the amount of luck (or lack of) in the level. Another slightly unusual feature is butterflies. These fly up the screen, and you have to match them as a completion task on some levels. I've seen it before, and it's quite a nice addition to the match-3 base. But if one gets to the top of the screen here? Insta-death. (I.e. immediately lose any remaining moves). Including on screens where butterflies aren't part of the objective. If I'd downloaded this for free on a mobile, I'd have uninstalled it by about level 10 or so. So to the developers; this kind of P2P system just doesn't work anymore for some of us, unless you've got a really good game. And to put the same thing on a PC as a paid product when it's clearly broken is just bad. I shall be looking out for more games from this developer (and probably publisher) on Steam so that I can totally avoid them.
I played Mundus - Impossible Universe 2 and LOVED it, so I had great expectations for the first one. Huge let down. Why? Because
it shows it's ugly free to play / pay to win roots hard
I don't mind difficult levels and I don't mind limited moves, but it's RNG is heavily weighted to require buying extra moves or items to be able to finish the levels more often than not. This while giving you a meager payout for passing the level, while the extra moves or items come at a hefty price. And before you say, "She's just a lousy player." please know I've been playing Match 3 games since the invention of Tic-Tac-Toe. :P This game is rigged for profit as, understandably, most free to play app games are. I have no issue with that. BUT! when porting a game to sell on Steam, devs need to remember to BALANCE it for the new environment. Artificial difficulty does not a good game make; it only alienates customers. And there's easy proof these devs know / understand this as their second Mundus game is challenging but not punishing. Bottom line- stay away from this one guys.
It's like a mobile phone game where the difficulty level suddenly spikes making you fail over and over and then asking you to try a power up or spend more in-game money to get more turns. Since the game doesn't have a micro-transactions "store" or something similar and there's no way to easily get these power ups so every 5 levels or so you'll bump into a barrier level that you'll have to try hundreds of times hoping that you get lucky and get the perfect combination of tiles while the game keeps teasing you to use these "abilities" that you have no way of getting
