About
Experience the complexities and challenges of modern American leadership in this faithful digital adaptation of GMT Games’ acclaimed board game Mr. President: The American Presidency 2000-2020. Step into the Oval Office during two decades that transformed America and the world.

Select your Cabinet and guide your administration through pivotal moments in recent history - as well as those that didn’t happen, but could have. What if the global financial crisis had happened earlier - or been even worse? What if violence in Central or South America escalated to create a cartel-dominated rogue state? What if outsourcing and automation, or an oil price spike, drove a domestic political crisis? Make the crucial decisions that will define - or tarnish - your presidential legacy.
Play any of the five historical scenarios - one for each of the presidential terms from 2000 to 2020 - and see if you can do better than your historical counterpart. Can you pass Social Security reform in the early 2000s? Protect the world from a nuclear Iran or North Korea? Hammer out lasting immigration reforms? Or play the sandbox scenario, which represents the general trends of these two decades. In addition to dealing with diplomatic and domestic crises, you’ll nominate Supreme Court justices and shepherd their confirmation hearings; manage scandals; run your re-election campaign; work with Congress to pass your legislative agenda; and build a capable and effective Cabinet.
The digital version maintains everything that made the original board game compelling:
Over 150 different Crisis events, both historical and counterfactual
Specific action lists and agendas for America’s key allies and adversaries - no recycled gameplay that makes Israel and Canada seem the same except for the flag
Choose from a large menu of action choices at every turn - and agonize how to spend your limited action budget
Prioritize America’s strategic capabilities, from cyber warfare to space to intelligence gathering, always with an eye to America’s peer rivals Russia and China
But now you can focus purely on strategy, while the game handles all the administrative tasks that slowed down tabletop play.
Every table and action list you need is a mouse click away
Seamless board view that lets you slide effortlessly between the big picture and the crisis of the moment
Scenario setup in seconds
Whether you're a fan of the original board game or new to presidential politics, this digital adaptation offers the perfect blend of accessibility and depth. Make the hard choices. Shape history. Experience the presidency.

I am really enjoying this game. I always wanted to play the board game but was intimidated by the play-time and the complexity. This port to steam is awesome. I love that it does a lot of the moving around for you; I understand that as the player only pressing space can be boring or annoying but for me this works well. The game itself is honestly very difficult. I somehow had a miraculous first attempt and made it to year 4 but lost to China declaring war on Japan. Otherwise I was on track to a great term. Other play attempts have been BRUTAL! Lost a game in my second year due to unpopularity. The rolls were not in my favor. And that one aspect of the game is my only true GRIPE. The rolls are NOT random, they are scripted for a turn. I've experimented with reloading saves, autosaves and tried the same action over ten times and the roll result is the same. I experimented with other actions and when I did those again and again, same results occurred. The dice rolls have to be randomized otherwise the game is scripted against you. I have no problem with difficulty but when the game is scripted to hurt you on purpose annoys me. Otherwise, I find the mechanics of the game amazing. As a high school history teacher this game really hits that experience that I've wanted in a game. I like that it's tough, it is complicated, and it's fun trying to organize so many avenues domestically, diplomatically, and militarily. If you want an in-depth game about the politics of running a nation and competing against international rivals, I highly recommend this.
Fun, early release. Lot's of upside. The scripted die rolls feel plastic. and puts on tall guardrails preventing huge victories or catastrophic losses. Would like to see an option for instantaneous die rolls, and pass on die seeds.
the game is far from bad, however lacks key and important features. the games interface is complicated by design, its part of the challenge of being "president". Because of that it could really benefit from a well structured and well oriented voiced tutorial, which the game lacks. i would recommend a voiced tutorial that guides the player through a scripted crisis or high stakes like scenario would really help orientate new players and introduce mechanics that are both crucial but also very complicated. it shouldn't take players hours to understand the game they're playing and a voiced tutorial would really help. by both guiding players through a scripted event and by adding to the immersion of the game by having it voiced. something like an ai voiced assistant to the president who guides players through a scenario where public opinion against vaccines causes a negative affect on the state of the nations economy, so you as the president need to launch a new public outreach campaign or hold a press event advising the public. this option is not only cost effective but easy to script and test through a series of updates. the dice rolling mechanic caught me by surprise. while i can understand that somethings like public opinion are subject to random chance, within a game engine. finding out that my plans and administrative agenda are ultimately subject to a D10 was immersion breaking, including a UI that shows how players choices influence the dice roll could help. showing a +2 from public opinion of your administration for your public health initiative, or even, hiding the dice roll in the bottom right could help to obfuscate the fact that your playing a game and not immersed in a "POTUS command screen" can help to maintain the sense of immersion and keep players actively immersed and thus engaged in the game. ultimately a fun and challenging game if your interested in a fun brain teaser and a political simulator. I cant wait to see where this project leads and what the finished product will look like.
This has been one of the more professionally run Early Access games I've been a part of. There is a clear timeline, regular updates, and the game is very quickly converging on the full experience that the board game is. The developers have been very responsive to bug reports, and have made multiple quality of life improvements to the game as well. The game is quite good now, and I have no doubt that we'll see the full game by the 31 July target date.
Great implementation of the board game and looking forward to full launch!
I have the board game and I know its a monster of a game .But a very much an amazing game .There is a lot of book flipping and chart checking and dice rolling and I am ok with that .But I just have to say that they have taken a monster by the tail here and streamlined the game so much that they have taken out all the book flipping and dice modifying so now the computer does all of that and allows you to make all the important decisions .I also know that this is still early access and the deves are very involved. There is still a lot to this game even at this stage .I would holy recommend it to anyone who likes this type of game
Deep and narrative game, hard choices, never enough actions, great implementation of the board game. Fingers crossed for a full release.
still early but fascinating
