About
"BitSummit 2024 Sponsor Award PlayStation®PRIZE, INNOVATIVE OUTLAW AWARD NOMINEE"
This is an adventure game where five protagonists—men and women who boarded the enigmatic talking elevator, "Mr. Elevator"—solve puzzles in a mysterious otherworld they are lost in, searching for what each of them seeks. Freely explore the unique world, drawn in the style of early Windows Paint software, and thoroughly enjoy the puzzles that appear before you.
I'm Mr. Elevator.
Are you looking for something?
If you're in trouble, I might be able to help.
It seems that five men and women have wandered in here.
Are you... looking for someone?

There are many doors lined up. Let's try knocking or hitting them.
Oh, the door opened.
Sometimes you may walk in the dark,
And in vast fields, you may encounter strange creatures or stone statues.
Does a broken smartphone have any use?
This looks good for turning screws.
Sometimes you might hold a book and think about how to use the items you found,
And you might listen to a walkie-talkie.
How is it? Do you think you'll find what you're looking for?
If you like, you can take your time to find what you're looking for.
I'll always be watching over you.

Spoiler-free is a subjective concept, but in my opinion, this review is "spoiler-free" in the sense that I wouldn't feel like I had anything ruined for me if I had read it before playing the game. A couple puzzle-specific spoilers are included (but kept mostly vague), but they're hidden behind actual spoiler tags. Overall a great puzzle game if you enjoy non-standard, out-of-the-box puzzle games that largely leave you on your own to figure things out. The puzzle difficulty varies quite a bit; there were some puzzles that left me feeling "oh, it's over already? I wanted to keep using what I learned" after solving them, but there were also some where I needed some assistance to reach the solution due to some unsatisfying leaps in logic. I didn't use the in-game hints so I can't speak for how much they help; I instead looked to a friend who'd already 100% cleared the game. I think this kind of game is best when streaming to a friend who can provide hints in order to avoid getting overly frustrated when a puzzle doesn't "click" with you and you get stuck on it for a while. I had a great time with the game overall and I hope it gets more reviews and more traction. It's currently a bit of a hidden gem, but maybe that could change! Reviews go a long way in helping a game get over the initial bump where Steam isn't really ready to recommend it to people yet, so by all means, please consider leaving a review if you get it and play it. This top part is the summary, by the way! Don't scroll to the bottom expecting me to reiterate everything I just said.
Positives

Great puzzle design overall
Most puzzles provide you with info and it's up to you to work out to how to solve them yourself, making them really satisfying to solve. I found the puzzles revolving around the concept of
listening to and parsing fictional spoken languages
to be particularly fun and engaging. Puzzles also utilize a lot of different elements for their information and solutions; direct text/spoken hints, diagrams, environmental clues, player actions/tools... There's a lot of variety between each of the different chapters, and typically even between each section of each chapter. This can admittedly mean some chapters strike well for players and some don't, but I think the positives easily outweigh the negatives, and I was pretty confident I'd want to stick with the game until the end after finishing the opening chapter. Like I said previously, some puzzles left me expecting/wanting more after finishing them, but at the same time, it never felt like any individual puzzle overstayed its welcome.
Cool aesthetic and atmosphere
The aesthetic is great all the way through, and consists of simple colors and low-poly environments, self-described by even the devs as being MS Paint style. The graphics were a big part of what drew me to play the game; if it had generic, high-fidelity graphics, I probably wouldn't have played it unless it had come very highly recommended from a friend.
Unique control scheme
To keep it simple and spoiler-free, the game lets you control both your hands independently and perform actions with them such as knocking, opening doors, and using different tools. There are naturally a lot of fun and interesting things you can do with this. The hand controls can feel a little janky at times, and some of the tools you use throughout the game can feel a little cumbersome at times, but whenever there was downtime, you can bet I was doing something silly with my hands. I didn't have this issue myself, but I hear some people struggle to figure out some of the hand controls. Some of them are only told to you in the hints menu, which admittedly isn't ideal. I think I recall the basics being explained at the start and experimented on my own to figure out the finer nuances. This was part of the fun for me, but I can see how it wouldn't vibe well with some people.
Negatives

Some non-intuitive puzzles
There are some puzzles I felt like had several ways you could interpret their clues to solve them, and the game didn't always do a good enough job of pointing you toward the one it wanted. This is the kind of thing that could probably be improved by having a wider range of testers and accounting better for different people catching onto different things at different rates. (Note: For all I know, maybe they had a ton of testers! I'm just putting my thoughts out there on this, and my impression is that some puzzles had clarity issues that if I had been the one testing, I would have definitely brought up with the developers.) For a relatively spoiler-free example, there's a puzzle early on in one of the chapters that has you identifying which items you need to use for the solution, and there are a couple posters on the wall providing an extra clue as to how to identify them. These posters are optional "extra" hints for if you can't intuit how to do a certain "something" with the info the game has already provided to you. Later in the same chapter, there's a puzzle that provides you with some info and asks you to derive a code from it. There are a lot of operations you can apply to this info to get codes of the length the game wants, all while seemingly following its "rules." Both me and the friend I had helping me solved this puzzle somewhat by chance while trying different things since the code is very small (you can bruteforce it if you really want). The mechanic used in the puzzle to gain its primary "information" is very easy to misunderstand, and a poster on the wall or some other non-text hint to help prevent this misunderstanding. Minor~medium spoilers for the mechanic in question:
The player has to use an object while standing on a tile to learn something. Most players would probably assume the way the object reacts is based purely on the tile you're standing on... but actually, it also cares about which tile/direction you're facing.

Awkward translation
As a fellow Japanese to English translator, I can say with near certainty that this game was machine translated into English. This results in some stilted parts in the dialogue now and again. However, I don't recall the translation ever getting in the way of solving the puzzles, so this isn't that big of a deal.
Lack of subtitles
The game currently lacks subtitles entirely, and there are some points of the game where voices are much quieter than others, making them a little hard to make out over the rest of the sound. There are also some parts of the game that are 100% better without subtitles, but it'd be nice to have them for just regular dialogue, at least.
Bence ilginç bir deneyim. Grafikleri birazcık gözleri yoruyor. Onun dışında bir problem yok. Tavsiye edilir indirimdeyken.
