Morningstar: Book of the Fallen

Droid Productions creates high quality AVNs with intelligent storylines, interesting (and beautiful) characters, and fun conflict-resolution mechanics. Morningstar is no different. I played through the Path of Light and will be revisiting one or more of the other endings as soon as I begin to forget enough to make it fresh again. Also, check out Love of Magic! Another amazing Droid Productions AVN, though even more epic.

I wishlisted Morningstar as soon as I became aware of its development because Love of Magic, another Drone game, is one of my favorite games; and I was not disappointed by the quality of storytelling in Morningstar. Characters make sense within the context of their world, and there are definitely attractive women to spend intimate time with. I recommend both Mornigstar and Love of Magic. They provide what I want in adult games: a compelling story with engaging characters I care about - so I want to have sex with them and can because of in-game actions that make sense in a cohesive fictional world.

Another fantastic game from Droid! Great scenes and story line with 4 paths to chose from. Recommend all 4! Time for me to replay and pick up errant achievs, Toodaloo!

Droid nails it once again. It never ceases to amaze me how they manage to take premises that sounds like a random tween fanfic on AO3, and weave it into a mature, dark and engaging story. Also, coming from Love of Magic, the 'recycled' character aspect is actually genius. It rewards those who played LoM and developed bonds with them without needing to alienate new comers. A final note I want to make is how ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good the soundtrack is. It never fails to set the mood and give moments that extra little spice to really them pop.

The Good/Overview Building on the mechanics, formula, and play style of Love of Magic, this complex standalone urban fantasy weaves together a variety of gaming mechanics making it difficult to classify in typical Droid Productions' style. It is part urban fantasy novel, part dungeon crawler, part 'minigame', part character builder, part harem isekai. In it you are the dragged from your budding MMA career into a role as hero standing between multiple factions, multiple women, and multiple endings, destiny and ancient evils waiting for their chance. The game proceeds at its own pace with events taking place at set times leading you through the story. However the journey along the way is up to you. You have myriad options that advance side stories or character advancement - court women, work on your stats, earn cash, drink, eat, study up on your opponents, roam the tunnels... For fans of Droid Productions' earlier works, particularly Love of Magic, pick this one up. You won't be disappointed. As his fans have come to expect, this game is meticulously crafted, rife with Dresdenesque humor, and quality visuals and cutscenes. Potential downsides: ----------------------- 1) Yes, you'll be reading. Oddly some people find this offputting in a Visual Novel. 2) The combat minigame is a customized variant of gems. Combat is completely skippable if that isn't your thing, but it is well done and doesn't detract from the game (I'm not particularly a Gems fan, but even so this worked well in the game.)

All in all a great game and certainly one to pick up if you're a fan of the dev and modern age fantasy/mythology mash ups. Not "quite" a follow up to Love of Magic but close enough that you question it at times. I was never able to decide if it being similar to the point of having the same character models was a good thing or not but as a game it's solid. The gem game mechanic is interesting without dragging you in and the story is engaging. The world feels lived in and it's a game worth paying attention to as opposed to "skip conversations till the noods". On the flip side the actual game itself feels.... undercooked. There's mechanics and story points in play that are interesting but don't feel fully committed to. The gem game is fun but lacks the depth that a Huniepop offers. There are upgrades to your character when playing that can help you but it feels like fine margins. Similarily, the story itself seems to stumble over itself at times. It starts with the MC being a MMA fighter but as the celestial story line starts to unfold it feels like it takes a back seat. Both story threads on their own could have been interesting but to have both seems... meh. I appreciate the MC cares about the title fight but does the player, knowing the Apocalypse is coming? Those aren't, in my opinion, reasons to not play it but rather are reasons this game is good and not stellar. Unlike LoM this game is one and done which is a shame as there are points here which could have been expanded upon easily. But regardless, it's a great game to burn a day on. The game has branches in regard to love interests which help keep it fresh over multiple playthroughs although it does feel the dev has a favourite

Love this game almost as much as Love of Magic. 100% would suggest.

Interesting story so far, with a cohesive fantasy world that embraces adult elements but does not obsess over them.

Love the game and story. This game isn't just for playing, its also there to immerse your self in the story. Couldn't ask for a better game
