💬 Supportive Caveat This is a solid M/M monster-fantasy RPG and I had a good time with it, but I really want to flag one design choice that kept pulling me out of the experience: the game frames the protagonist as reluctant and sometimes shame-adjacent about sex, even though sex is a core mechanic and the whole premise is that he’s literally irresistible. For me, that disconnect is a bummer in a genre that is supposed to be escapist. Also, the game uses language like “slut” and includes a “stay a virgin” achievement, which adds a weird morality layer to what is otherwise a sex-forward monster romp. If the dev ever revisits this idea in future updates or sequels, I would love to see the tone shift toward something like an irresistibility meter instead. Let the MC be curious, hungry, and fully into it, because that’s the fantasy a lot of us are actually here for. More optional encounters with NPCs would also fit this world perfectly. That said, if you want a turn-based RPG where sex is part of the loop and monsters are absolutely going to take advantage of you if you lose, this game delivers. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre Turn-based sidescroller RPG with platforming and party members. Combat can be a little tricky until you get your build and rhythm down, and a controller helps a lot. Progression is tied to monster powers and encounters, so the gameplay loop is basically fight, lose or win, learn, adapt, repeat. 🔥 M/M Content Very M/M and very monster-focused. You can get dominated by monsters in animated fantasy scenarios, plus you can pursue encounters with one of your companions and men you meet along the way. Do not come in expecting a big romance VN vibe though. This leans more “sex and survival” than “love story.” 🎨 Visuals & Style Old-school JRPG feel with a modern adult twist. Environments are solid, character designs are appealing, and the animated scenes are hot, even if I personally would not complain about them being more explicit (like give those monsters, monster ♥♥♥♥♥ too). 🗣️ Tone & Writing The plot is thin, and the dialogue is limited. The lore is fine and serviceable, but it's not deep. The story mostly exists to connect fights, zones, and encounters. The reluctance and shame framing around sex does not match the premise. When it commits to being fun and dirty, it works. When it scolds you for participating in the core fantasy, it loses momentum. 👍 Best Thing The concept is great, and the mechanics are genuinely fun. The fights are surprisingly tricky at times. Surrendering to monster sex rather than dying in fights is a unique and appreciated mechanic. The monster powers, and progression tied to encounters is a strong hook, and the game mostly executes on it. 👎 Worst Thing The reluctant MC framing and the shame-y vibe around desire. Also, one achievement requires staying a virgin for a whole run, and I am not doing that. If you’re making an M/M monster sex RPG, commit. Go all in. ⭐ Final Verdict I recommend this game. It’s fun, it’s horny, and the RPG side has real substance. I just wish it would stop acting like enthusiastic gay sex is something the MC has to apologize for. Let the dude be voracious and get that monster ♥♥♥♥! I also curate a Steam page reviewing M/M games if you’re looking for more titles in this space: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45790038/
For the positives: The art direction of the levels and characters looks decent. There's a genuine attempt to flesh out the world and lore. There is actual combat strategy necessary to progress. For the negatives: Enemy balancing needs tweaking. Character movements are too floaty. Dialogue transitions graphically pauses too frequently. Plot is explained too early on...and reads like something from fanfiction.net. I tried to play through this game without having sex figuring it would be the challenging mode. The game requires a lot of grinding, even within the first 5 minutes of playing. Due to game progression reasons, it's impossible to skip sex, even with random enemy encounters. Giving into sex after a defeat awards gold, and you'll need a lot to trick out your loadout, otherwise you will keep losing. There's also issues with automated objects remaining active during dialogue, like boulders in the Goblin Cave. While talking with a character, I was bulldozed and sent all the way back to the entrance, which was frustrating and avoidable. Even though the sex scenes themselves visually have good ideas, are ruined by the stiff animations paired with the dialogue pauses. A scene that takes less than a minute may take 2-3 from the lag. You can rewatch scenes whenever you like in the gallery, so the is an incentive to actually lose your battles. Monster Souls seems to have put all of its' development into putting sex in the forefront, rather than the game mechanics and world. Games like Flip Witch, Paradiso Guardian, and Robin Morningwood are all sex games, however they place their game mechanics first making them solid, with the sex being secondary, yet very rewarding, IMO. At time time I just can't recommend the game in its' current state, though if it received some polish I do think there's potential for it to be really good!
Hits the mark, and an experience unlike anything else I've played for gay games. A bit unpolished as of writing because of its earlier than planned release (reasonable given circumstances). The metroidvania-like navigation is awkward at first but you get used to it quickly, and then exploring and trying to find treasure chests is quite engaging. The turn-based RPG combat has a decent difficulty curve that rewards grinding, but not excessively so, and only feels a bit punishing in the medium-late game. The bar minigame and slime virtual pet aspects could do with a bit of fleshing out. The very small number of side-quests is unfortunate but isn't really an issue until you finish the main story. The NSFW scenes are top notch, though your sidekicks mostly just have to awkwardly sit there if they are in the party. The other story and dialogue is basic and a bit rushed in the third chapter and finale, but holds together fine enough. Currently the music sometimes fades awkwardly into silence, and many enemies don't have enough sound-effects, but the audio that is present is quite effective. The visuals are in a glossy pop-up book style that I find quite appealing, barring an unusual angle between a staircase and floor here and there. Encountered a glitch or two, but no crashes or anything that negatively effected the playthrough. A good gayme, especially given the small number of people that worked on it. A must-try if you like dudes and turn-based RPGs. Hoping for a DLC or sequel if the dev ever manages to recover from the burnout of getting this released.
It's not a bad game. I just don't really see a reason to play it instead of another more fleshed out rpg. I know it's meant to be an nsfw game first and an rpg second, but I can't get past how lifeless some of the dialogue sounds. The combat system is also just a bit to basic to keep me entertained. But other than that, if you're looking for a sexual game, yeah I'd maybe recommend it. But if you want something more than that, I'd look elsewhere. Love the art though.
Overall a bad experience. The game was apparently released before being finished. The good : - graphisms and music are rather good - main story arch is ok The bad : - user interface is awful - save system is awful (checkpoints) - dialogues are bad and really repetitives ; your companions are soulless minions and there's mstly no interaction with them (no relationship progression, nothing). - you mostly don't have a choice, except banging or not banging people. Story is VERY linear and very short, but you're gonna have to grind a lot to go through it. - only way to progress is through A LOT of grinding - only a few monsters with different colors, wayyyy too much tentacles for my taste (didn't encounter a single hostile human, but many jellyfishes, plants and frogs) - monsters are overpowered, leading you to surrender a lot, which means lots of the same animations (sexy the first time, then boring, but you can skip it) and basically no in game advantages - pure/slut mechanism > what does it do?? I went from 100% pure to 100% slut just after "surrendering" to another monster. Didn't impact the gameplay in any way.
It's fun. Creative. Simple. There's that moment you go 'oh'... then go back because: ya, how many ways can a guy in an armored leotard get pegged... creative. should be more of these.
I can definitely see both merits and the flaws of this game. It's the most expensive sexy game I've ever purchased—so I'm holding it to a higher standard. It's not mid for sexy games; it's mid for games in general. (For sexy games, it's great.) The animations are… okay. Not bad. Just maybe not as good as I'd like them to be. The combat is interesting and challenging, but not very original, aside from the transformation parts which are genuinely cool. I like that people react to what form you're in, at least sometimes; it's good that the game doesn't act like I'm the only one who knows I'm walking around as a wolf or a dragon. The characters are not cardboard cutouts, but nor are they especially deep. The movement is weird—you have to jump to get onto most ramps, but not all ramps. (It's especially weird in the tavern. By the way, the tavern minigame gets really repetitive because the same randomized dialogues repeat over and over.) The plot is simple but good enough. It's in all, a very mid game. I know “lose and get raped” is a trope of the genre (and making it all male actually puts a bit of a twist on it), and so I'm willing to accept that when you “surrender” to monsters you get raped. But there are a couple of sex scenes—with humans, not with monsters—that absolutely could have been consensual and the game just wasn't written that way. Also the way the game tracks “virginity” means you'll almost certainly “lose your virginity” with an early-game monster and have that mark on your character sheet for the rest of the game, which seems… weird. (Your companions can lose their virginity with you, which feels a lot better, though it seems like you have to commit to one each playthrough.) (There is an achievement for completing the game without losing your virginity, but only 2.5% of players have it.) Maybe just… don't track that? Or only count encounters with other humans? It's also quite strange that at least one I got a GAME OVER screen—after an extremely hard fight that seemed like I was expected to lose the first time—that then allowed me to “Give In” and continue the game. If you're going to let the player continue from that spot, just don't say “GAME OVER”! Probably the game's biggest flaw is that it's too short; I finished the game in about 8 hours. But it's honestly sort of refreshing why it's short: The adventuring party goes directly toward what they're looking for in the main quest, generally finds it relatively easily, defeats a boss to get it, then goes on to the next thing. They don't get sidetracked by a hundred random sidequests that contribute nothing to the plot. (On the other hand, there is probably a happy medium here, with a more moderate amount of sidequests rather than just the main quest.)
it was good just over priced
Игра для настоящих мужчин. Жаль вариаций содействий с персонажами мало.
