i love this game despite the jank
mixed
i played sin eater first. since it was so good and i am awaiting the endgame updates, i decided to play the original while i waited. Very worth playing, there are a lot of things this game actually does better than the sequel. like the chief tamers and level capping. It does suffer from some indie game jank that can softlock your save but the developers did work out a solution with the press 9 to go home, which is amazing and convenient

There's no single thing about this game that made me give up on it, but lots of little problems. It lacks polish and feels very amateurish. For example: in battle, monster sprites often look the wrong way (i.e., away from the opponent); in the field, monsters continue to spawn and chase you even when the menu is open; during dialogue, the font is blurry and the dialogue box appears right in the middle of the screen.
Alright so Monster crown was a good concept for a game especially for a single person to make however the reason for my bad review is for the HUGE amount of bugs i kept encountering. Tbh i enjoyred the game and i 100% the achievements but due to how the game ran and all of the bugs i kept encountering, all of the potential side content i chose to skip over due to how much of a hassle it felt. For starters, the game has overworld spawns so encountering monsters isnt random, which is cool until they just keep spawning forever and dont despawn until you are forced into an encounter, the only way to bypass this is to have a mount on the overworld which you cant use in dungeons, so if you go into a cave or dungeon you are bombarded by encounters constantly. The way the controls are feel extremly stiff and jancky, and i wouldnt typically mind but due to this sometimes using the abilities wont work or trigger at all such as the Scout mechanic. Theres a bug in the game specifically wheen you reach post game where you can go to an additional set of generative dungeons in which the monster just have super inflated states/IVS for some reason, IVS are capped at 5 per stat, but for some reason they are 11.2 when you catch them, whenever you breed down it just goes down to the 5 cap. New game plus just doesnt work at all, nothing carries over at all for some reason. I like 100% games and you can do it in 1 playthrough here, except they are also bugged and just wont trigger for some reason, i had to 2 an entire 2nd playthrough just to get the TCG achievement since it didnt trigger at all eventhough i did all of the dungeons and had the bootlegs by this point, and the literal unskipable story achievement A Becoming choice just did not trigger at all. I got the sequel to this game and ive seen good things about it, but for people interested in the series should know that this game has an insane amount of bugs, if you can look past that and all the jank its honestly enjoyable it has its bones, but if you cant its gonna feel very annoying to do any exploration in this game at all, especially cuz of the constant encounter bombardment.
First off I knew that the game was going to have issues based on reviews, I got mine on sale during the Winter sale for 3$--- WHICH is what I think the game is worth in its current state. The start of this game showed alot of promise as far as a game, but fell apart The Art is nice, the music is good, I was looking forward to the breeding mechanic- its just nowhere near Dragon Warior Monsters 2000 Its battle system could use some improvement- I'm either Rolling my enemy or I walk into an area and get rolled I pretty much hung it up because it feels very dry and incomplete- and the further along I get into it the buggier and more rough the game gets. I will say the game was entertaining to play during my winter vacation- In many ways I wish I could actually work with the creator of this game a bit to iron out this game because its initial idea was good.
This game feels so broken even though its already rather old. I was hoping for it to become good thats why I bought it years ago but damn this is so bad also everything is super slow and clunky, I really regret wasting my money on this and I usually don't delete games I paid for after only 2 hours of playing but this is just bad.
