This game is great, so much fun to play on the Steam Deck. It's crazy I've been playing this game all of my life, it still never gets old!
very cool
The original Monster Bash is a childhood favorite of mine and I highly recommend it as it is a fun, nostalgic platform game. It does feel unresponsive at times but is still a lot of fun. I would recommend buying this remastered version of the original because while that does have its charm, this one is clearly more polished and has new features the original just doesn't.
This HD update is pretty strong. I always felt the EGA colour palette was kind of gross so updating *Monster Bash*'s graphics makes the visuals very definitive. The audio is left alone, which is good since the music and SFX were always pretty good. This HD remake changes up how you approach the game's campaigns. Instead of going through each episode in a string, taking with you the amount of lives you have from one level to the next, you instead select the level from the menu and lives are infinite. I miss the lives system and the stakes of having to survive a whole episode. Plus, the removal of a lives system renders the Johnny pickups as more points to collect in a game with already a lot of collectibles. The switch up, though, was probably the right idea. The inclusion of the level editor and Steam workshop support is pretty neat. It has a lot of features too although I haven't dabbled too deeply into it. As for the game itself, Monster Bash is a pretty solid Apogee platformer. The movement and weapon physics make it a snappy and fun game. The level design is lived in and intricate although the non-linear nature of the game's objective of freeing all the pets conflicts with the rather linear levels. Episodes 2 and 3 aren't as good as the first either. Episode 1 is very good, though, and worth the ride.

I bought this along with secret agent and crystal caves HD (other apogee platformers) and BY FAR this is the worst game.... playing this game is so annoying... superior controls in the previous titles are gone, for some unknown reason everything is massive and you cant see more than few meters up and down.... there are graphical glitches... the mechanics are SO ANNOYING, apart from being visually more attractive, everything else is worse.... to make things even worse some achievements are bugged or wonky and wont trigger
Loved the original game as a kid, remake does an amazing job of updating visuals and adding QOL features and controller support.
