Reviews
This one's the price of a coffee and the gameplay loop/mechanics are reasonably interesting and unique. Solid marks there. I think right now I see this as a neat little toy for maybe 5 - 10 hours which for the asking price is a steal. I also think that it has potential to be something really, really, really addicting. Unfortunately there are some odd... bugs? Choices? I'm honestly not that sure. For example you can go into the settings in the esc menu to see the full details of your stats during a run, which is great! ...but then it closes as soon as you start a new wave, and you have to go back into the settings to reopen it every time. It feels so unintuitive and clunky that it really made me think it was a bug. Additionally the basic mouse click weapon doesn't recharge on normal speed - you have to increase the game speed to 2x for the bar to refill so you can actually clear enemies. Again, felt like a bug. I could be wrong on both, but feel is important, and these feel bad and weird and inhibit the experience. I failed 3 or 4 runs before I figured out that it was the game speed increase that was allowing the weapon to recharge, it was frustrating as hell. I also think the balance is... maybe a little off? I got the sense that the developer may be balancing based on their understanding of the game rather than a new player's. I could also just be bad, but frankly it doesn't really matter because this has the "games you don't really understand why it clicks like it does but it really clicks" vibe about it. I think it just needs some updates to smooth things out combined with a proper set of contextual information about what's actually going on for a new player - not even necessarily a tutorial, since picking the unique set of mechanics up organically as I went was admittedly a pretty compelling (if frustrating) way to learn. Either way, it's cheap, fairly interesting, deceptively complex in its simplicity, and I very much hope it sees updates.
