If you’re a fan of the series or manga, this game can be mostly enjoyable, though the storyline isn’t really the main focus. For both fans and newcomers, the game is quite challenging even on easy mode, it felt more like an extreme difficulty at first. However, I got used to it over time. There are settings to adjust your health and other factors to make the game easier, which helps. That said, the game has a poor tutorial system. You’ll need to figure out a lot on your own, which can be frustrating. There are many dodges and attacks happening simultaneously, but the game doesn’t clearly explain dodge mechanics, so it takes some trial and error to get the hang of it. You only get to play as three characters, and the key is using them strategically. As for achievements, they’re a mix of easy, time-consuming, and skill-based challenges. I personally enjoyed the strategic aspect, especially considering the hitbox is tied to your character. However, the game really needs a better tutorial to explain its mechanics clearly. In my honest opinion, the game isn’t worth the full $30 price, but I bought it for $18 during the summer sale because I’m a fan of the series/manga. Overall, I did enjoy it, especially while collecting achievements and playing through the game, but the price feels a bit steep for what it offers.

Very good
If you're looking for an explanation of the in game systems then jaimer here has you covered cause the game just doesn't explain this at all: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnlcZPVwW4o Source "System You have three playable characters you can freely switch between. Each one has their own unique shot, bomb, melee attack, movement speed and leader perk like in Senjin Aleste. The game has no focus button, so switching becomes necessary if you want to slow down or speed up. Every character has their own healthbar and getting hit takes a good chunk out of it. Getting hit sometimes gives you a temporary hyper. The healthbars of inactive characters slowly regenerate over time, but once a character dies they're perma-death. In order to access the final stage none of the characters are allowed to die. Rank drops quite a bit after a character dies too. The melee is pretty unusual. If you press the button you'll dash towards the nearest enemy on screen to strike them, kinda like a teleport. You can also charge it it to do more damage. During the dash you can pass through bullets, but you'll always take a little bit of damage from them, which is obviously not viable for this category. It's also very easy to just dash straight into a moving enemy hitbox and take a million damage. It's situational at best. The way power works in this game is quite unusual too. You fill up the power meter by shooting and melee'ing enemies and you go up a power level at certain thresholds. Some shots are much better at building power than others, the wide shot in particular increases power at a much faster rate. During bosses melee gives more power than shot. Probably the weirdest part of the game is the inclusion of the backstep mechanic. It's functionally the same thing as the melee, but instead of dashing at an enemy you dash back to the bottom of the screen. I've honestly never seen anything like it and I'm... not sure if there is a single use for it. In theory it lets you pointblank a bit more, but you probably lose more damage than you would just moving away yourself duo to the doppler effect. Characters Tohru Strong forward focus shot. Medium melee damage. Medium speed. Leader perk: shot power increase. Elma Wide shot. Strongest melee. Lowest speed. Leader perk: melee power increase. Kanna Homing shot. Weakest melee. Fastest speed. Shots can cancel bullets. Weak bomb but it heals everyone. Little HP. Leader perk: bombs regenerate faster. Scoring Scoring in this game is a bit unusual too. It's enemy kill chaining, but the score you get and how lenient the chaining is depends on the Risk Rate you set at the start of the game. The higher the Risk Rate the more score you get, but the shorter the chain timer is and the more damage you take from enemies. On Risk Rate 5 a single hit takes out half your healthbar, it's pretty nutty. Very risk-reward." Mind you if you do watch his run it is in the original release, which the new version has had some of the safespots removed, especially in stage 4 boss which is way harder, i had a much easier time getting the normal 1cc in the original label to give you an idea. As for my opinion on the game, it's just okay, don't bother paying too much for it, its not complete kusoge but some patterns feel like piss to dodge, im looking at ilulu and some stuff in stage 4 in particular, though i am no god at schmup either so maybe im just being a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
no nyt on shovelware
Didn't really need to play this for very long to write a review as it's quite bare bones. I'm mixed but leaning Positive ONLY because i got it for very cheap. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF KOBAYASHI'S DRAGON MAID: This game is worth playing imo ONLY if you can grab it on sale for atleast 30% or more off. The voice acting is right from the anime and the art is well done. Set it on Easy Mode and low Risk and just enjoy the story and character's interactions, it'll be fine. IF YOU ARE A FAN OF SHMUPS: I'd avoid the game. It's very much targeted for fans of the anime, and if you haven't seen it you won't care for the story/characters and the jokes and references made, alongside character banter. One of the biggest appeals to play is the Gallery/CG Rewards of the characters in cute art and the like, so without a connection to the anime, you'll have very little here in terms of actual SHMUPage. It's just meh for SHMUP standards. It's honestly pretty brutally difficulty on the higher difficulties if you like that out of a SHMUP for some reason since there's no slow button and you have to learn the speeds of 3 different characters at all times. Each one has HP and if you lose one for a run you lose them forever. Bombs are hard to come by and there's this weird 'Melee' mechanic where you can charge up and do a Melee Attack on the nearest enemy (or preferably boss) and gain Iframes kinda, but they run out nearly instantly upon contacting the boss. It's obvious the game's bosses were designed around this for some attacks, but it's so awkward and janky to use. TL;DR: Dragon Maid fans only buy if it's on sale for 30% or more, SHMUP fans stay away unless you're looking for a game that's really hard but not because of difficulty reasons but because of silly mechanical reasons (Melee Button, Learning 3 Speeds of characters, no slow down)
