Curator page here--> DaRevieweD #194 <-- New review every Weekend

"I AM IN MISERY… MAN!!"
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2859876922 Here's The Thing: You are an unknown and unfortunate SOB whose car just so happened to go kaput outside of a… misery mansion!!? Oh, my apologies, you’re not supposed to know of that yet. A-anyway, as far as you’re concerned, everyone lived a long and fruitful life there. For now, go ahead and try to ask for help~
[+] PROS;
:) WHAT DO YOU AND YOUR CAR HAVE IN COMMON? BREAKDOWNS~ I want to preface the praise of its unapologetically formulaic gameplay by summing up the experience as a more concise version of Silver Chains. One a touch cheaper and had Amnesia: The Dark Descent as an inspiration with regards to the unwary chases and debilitative sanity. P.T. also stumbles head first into the mansion without an invitation but is a most welcome presence! In short, you play as a defenseless marathon runner and key hoarder. That said, you’re in for some stunning moments of disbelief perceived only in waking nightmares when you find out what is so threatening about the antagonist…! I forgot, was it when you’re in its sights or maybe when within a given range? Guess you’ll have to let me know. Bwahaha! My detour from civilization kept me busy for a good hour and a half, but then stuff happened and it turned into two hours before I realized it. With just the one ending (and points to be raised in the cons), I’d advise against purchasing it full price~ :) TO BE ABLE TO LIVE HERE… I’D SETTLE FOR NOT DYING. While I think the mansion itself was underused and underwhelming, I couldn’t deny its menacing existence. Asset pack or not, to have laid eyes on the gloriousness of the accursed house, especially as a horror buff and geek was a delight in itself. Stepping foot in the place, however, gradually told a different tale, one that demanded courage. Then it went with that, taking it a few steps further and I kinda wish it didn’t… The character of the mansion is one of abandonment, with a dash of unfinished business and hopes snuffed out too young. Even with its rich people tastes in tacky décor, the maze-like structure and maddening thick coatings of darkness should drill the fear regardless of class! I would say more about the sound design, but it appears that it’s long since exited the premises for the most part with a few unannounced visits here and there~ :) OH LIGHTEN UP!? The first half-hour really set the miserable tone for me. With no idea as to where it was heading, and I had my guesses believe you me, which did nothing but render me easily startled and did a number on my heart. Not in the thumping all the way through with no breaks in between rhythm, but rather like someone was sitting on the organ for a bit and so it’s difficult to breathe, then getting up intermittently before planting their rear down again. This aching feeling persisted as the go-to-response for when the nightfall played tricks on me, it didn’t matter that I was indoors for a good 95% of the game or that it possessed nearly every haunted house trope; moving statues, eyeing paintings, uncanny shadows, and etc. I also had to hand it to the developer for putting in excessive light switches to the point of me being at the mercy of them. Only to then suddenly flip the script by having them nowhere around and driving you to your knees with nothing but the presumed disposable torchlight~ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2859873654
[-] CONS;
:( H-UNTIL IT DAWNS ON YOU? There was a surprisingly terrible encounter where I froze in place, paralyzed out of fear due to the suddenness and unexpectedness of it all. But the progression from that point onward was very limited and poor, going from the horror staple of “key-finding + walking simulator” to evading a deaf monster. The latter responsible for the experience growing so predictable by the halfway mark, probably not even making it there. Overstuffed from the perpetually imposed hide-and-seek sections, they were best left one-off as opposed to done-to-death just with marginally varying layouts… Needless to say, it wasn’t for the lack of gameplay alone that dragged it to hell. But something else became abundantly clear with every minute that you stayed trapped in this wretched place; the budget was as tight as a drum. No matter where you look, the same few portraits will hang around before being displaced to an unsuspecting corner to greet you once again. The interiors also doomed to repeat themselves until you can’t stomach the sight of them anymore. Lastly, I thought that “Misery Mansion” as a title was both litigious and yet rightly termed, though not in the way one would figure. It was painstakingly obvious that the game could have taken place anywhere else, thus called by another vague name, and still it would not have made any difference whatsoever~ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2859875937 :( SO THE STORY BLOWS- I MEAN, GOES! I’m well aware that “storytelling” in this generation of horror games amounts to no more than expository documents conveniently placed right before where they’re needed. And this practice has no discernible end in sight, but this title really made me yearn for the whole system to be abolished! It’s possible that it’s not even about that, but more so the fault lies in the dreary material that’s been done a thousand times… Leaving characters unnamed was supposed to have you believe that it could just as well have been haunting you, but that couldn’t stray any further from the case. Instead, bad and annoying things were taking place near you. The worst part? I didn’t care why or who they all happened to, and from the state of things, neither did the developer~ :( NONE. THE. MISER…! I know cost is subjective, time is money, and no I didn’t make the game, blah-blah… But after taking a couple steps back and channeling my rationale, I’ve come to the recognition that the game is much too pricey. That’s taking into account the extreme walking simulator front, excessive backtracking, paint-by-numbers story and measly length of 2 hours, which is really 1 hour at most when you rid it of the exhausting scavenger hunt. Since I’m airing my grievances, I might as well bring up the so-called “end” that wasn’t even a proper ending but more “the game is over, okay bye…”. Fitting for when the objective of an asymmetrical horror multiplayer has been fulfilled, and that which usually leaves you wanting more- except there isn’t anything else, lest you count your prevailing disappointment~
BUGS:
x Enemy AI glitches until you come bail him out, but by then you’re already dead! Happens more than once… x Walked and climbed over several objects. x Assumed optimization issues; prone to freezing.
NITPICKS:
~ Autosaves reset key placements in the scavenger hunt portions. ~ “Scary” sound effects get reused and replicated at the exact same spots. ~ In need of some proofreading. ~ First achievement is undeserved, because you’ll miss it if your flashlight is off…
"THE SILENCE IS SLOWLY KILLIN’ ME~"
Last Words? An okay but extortionate tourist trap. A looker on the surface but a breeding ground for misery- yours… Shrewd momentum set early on is demolished by dubious history and being too at home by the end~
6.5 / 10

Shoutout to
Indie Gems,
for GEMME-ing a key! Follow them here right now for more well, y’know~
Extreme stutter, poor level streaming optimization
I gotta say this is a great game until the last section where you must find items for a ritual. That's when the game has intense lag spikes in specific areas. The monster is the other problem, if it gets close you become incredibly slow which ruins the game experience especially if it also lags at the same time. I played this a year ago and gave up on it back then, I decided to check if the devs had fixed the problems but they hadn't so i can definitely not recommend this. Pros: + Great scares + Scary enemy + Decent graphics and terrifying atmosphere Cons: - Lag spikes all over the place no matter what graphic setting you have - Monster slows you down to a crawl when it is close and the monster is at every major location so they just end up being a pain to do - I can safely say it's a bit too expensive even if the game was fixed Playthrough: https://youtu.be/wYM8Q24LCds Steam Curator Page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/10995314-Szamer%2527s-Collection/
Have you played Visage and did you like it? Then you will most likely like this too. It is not as good as Visage, in my opinion, but it does have a similar principle. I experienced Misery Mnasion to be less scary and easier to complete. But I'm glad I experienced it. After you finished the game, it says "This was my first game.. there will be more". I really hope there will be more!
I suggest if you buy this game, you buy it when it's on sale. It's not that much content for $18. I did really enjoy this game, I played it in a call with my friend and we played it at the same time. The monster didn't scare me that much, probably because the mechanics aren't that great, but the game gave me a spook at certain times. The main issue I had with this game was the loading of new areas always froze my game for a couple seconds, even though I have an AMAZING pc (not to brag) 7/10.
Misery Mansion is a psychological/survival horror game made by solo developer Manic Mice. Considering it is their first game, it is a pretty good effort but it does have flaws. The overall experience had me creeping around the mansion slowly with well executed audio-visual elements and environmental design. I mostly felt danger was just around the corner and the paintings gave me goosebumps. It took some practice to figure out how the enemy AI behaves and how to measure its distance (due to blurry/hallucinating screen effects the closer it got) from the player location. However, this did become slightly frustrating with some enemy encounters and a slog to try and overcome it - maybe I was just bad at the game. Unfortunately, the game suffers from frequent, but short frame rate drops when loading new areas. This is frustrating towards the end with the enemy patrolling around the mansion. This is probably a 3-4 hour experience if played slow and patiently. It is not worth the current asking price, so wait for a sale as I did and pick it up for a short horror game experience. Although it has ups and downs, I enjoyed most of my time playing it. Verdict: 6 / 10
게임 못할정도로 개끊김 한마디로 머.저.리 똥겜 점수 : ★★★★★
Gran juego.
