Like MindTex 1 a great piece of software. I also used the beta for MindTex 2 a lot (hence only 15 minutes of time at this point). I can still recommend this software to anyone in need to create quick high quality normal, height, specular, reflection, gloss, self-illumination or occlusion maps. It generates these from a simple diffuse texture (preferably an albedo map for the best results). The biggest + however is its price which is incredibly low, especially compared to other pieces of software that essentially do the same. Definitely recommended!
Looking for a nice bumpmap/normalmap generator that is easy to use and generates quality equivalent to CrazyBump, but can't afford CrazyBump's ridiculous price tag ($300)? Get this program! You will not be disappointed!
The cleanest interface on a height/normal generator I've ever used. Switch DirectX or OpenGL green channels. Load any model for previewing. Lots of map export file formats. Fast. Clean. BUY IT.
Since always i generated all my different maps for my models with GIMP and the proper Plugins like BumpMap, etc. Now this little Software comes up to me, because a friend discovered it by accident. All i have to say is: Wow, this is simple, powerful and extremely intuitive. Pros: - Generates all types of maps out of one diffuse texture - Generates Normal Maps - Generates Height Maps - Generates Specual Maps - Generates Gloss Maps - Generates Self Illumination Maps - Generates Reflection Maps - Generates Ambient Occlusion Maps - Has a Batch-Workflow to generate multiple diffuses to mentioned maps in one pipeline - The price is rediculously low for what this Software offers. Cons: - Really, i couldn't find any. I highly recommend this Software to both, beginners and advanced people.
Awesome. Just awesome. The reason I love MindTex 2 so much is simply that it's convenient. The thing is, you don't have too much control over each map. There is a generic set of control values, but I feel that this is an upside in itself. If I need something very specific, then I will do it manually. For the vast majority of maps, however, you can generate a texture set within 60 seconds. I actually like the simplicity of MindTex 2. In summary- want to generate maps without any hassle whatsoever? Use this.
Great software for generating texture maps, allows you to generate and customize them quickly and easily, however I have 2 issues with it -the default file extension is .jpg, it's annoying to have to change it to a lossless format every time -whenever I import a 2048x2048 diffuse it seems to export any maps I make in 1024x1024 upscaled to 2048x2048 unless I change the preview resolution to 2048x2048
Very good, lightweight software that does exactly what it says on the tin. A fraction of the price of CrazyBump for the exact same package. Makes making textures from photos easy and quick! My only wish is that MindTex allowed you to preview your displacement maps with tesselation.
I can't believe I haven't reviewed this yet - MindTex 2 came free for owners of the Original. MindTex is an incredibly powerful program for how cheap it is - I almost paid $300 for software to make high quality Normal Maps for my Game and 3D Projects, but for only A$28.95 I can get something that can match, if not beat the quality and power of that $300 program. This software is incredibly underrated and a true gem - It's invaluable for my workflow, and I recommend it to -anyone- looking to generate normal maps for their models. Typically you can just shove an image in and it'll estimate the maps based on the image, BUT if you want this program to be far more accurate, do this instead: -Get your texture or the image you want to turn into a Normal Map -Desaturate it to Black and White -Adjust the Brightness and Contrast so it's brighter and more defined - Brighter whites, darker blacks -Put it into MindTex and be amazed with how accurate it is. -Adjust the sliders until you're satisfied. However, the loss of Quality becomes apparent if the Texture is too complex and/or is less than 1024. You may encounter issues there, but I recommend working on a 2048 or 4096 image first then downscaling it for use on your Asset when it's ready.
