Mice Crisis

In Mice Crisis, you control a cat tasked with defeating all the mutated animals and insects. There are 4 locations which increase in size and challenge gradually. There is even a minor story with a twist after completing it. The cat can jump, attack, dash and use 2 consumable items (grenades and mines). You can temporarily increase the amount of dash charges and there is a consumable skill that let’s you see where the remaining targets are. The game looks super adorable, the graphics are pretty decent. The character designs show lots of personality. I like that there are 4 levels, the further I got the more interesting the game was to play. The final level was the best of them all. The 3 achievements are fine and involve completing the game. I really like the idea behind the game. I would love it if we get more of them. But Mice Crisis has big problems, I don’t know where to start. It feels like an unfinished game that is janky, lacks polish, is buggy and too short for the price being asked. To give some examples, there is no controller support whatsoever. Thank Valve for offering controller templates and the default gamepad template works well enough. V-sync does not work in-game even when the option is there in the settings menu, let’s thank Nvidia (and I’m assuming AMD) for offering these options. There isn’t a lot of text but what’s there has enough typo and grammar mistakes that should have been corrected on the spot. The animals can hit you so hard, you can get thrown to areas you’re not supposed to be in yet and that can get you softlocked. Some of the animations are weird, especially when you attack. The camera can get very annoying when you’re close to walls/objects. Some of the animals/robots are too quick and aggressive, the game knows this by not allowing you to die, otherwise it would have been a disaster. It makes me question if the game has been tested enough. To top it all off, I completed it in 1 hour and 23 minutes. Some of that time was wasted on retrying levels due to bugs. The price of €7,19 is unacceptable for not only being too short but the quality is way below average. I bought the game to support the developer and it pains me to get a game that is far below expectations. It’s like all the time went into making a concept and they stopped after getting a game that can be completed on a basic level. It could have been excused if they asked a price that was more reasonable, or the game was in a better state. €7,19 can easily be spent on better games. I don’t have it in me to give a downvote/negative since the game hardly has any reviews at the time of writing. But I’m considering a refund for feeling what is probably a buyer’s remorse. Edit: There is now a bundle that offers 40% off if you own their previous games. This puts the price at around €4,31 which makes the value proposition more debatable. This should have been the normal price at the bare minimum.
