It used to be a legend. Now it's a wallet contest. I still remember my first day in Metin2. Running out of the village as a level 1 Ninja, dodging wolves, and seeing those massive Metin stones for the first time — it felt like a whole world opening up. The game had a soul back then. You ground for hours, but every level meant something. Landing a +9 weapon made you known on your server. Guild wars were actual wars, decided by who was more organized, not by who spent more money. The game I logged into today is not that game. Everything runs through the cash shop now. Costumes, pets, mounts, bonus stones, upgrade items — you name it. It's mathematically impossible for a free player to compete with someone who pays. Gear that used to take weeks of effort can now be bought in ten minutes. Drop rates have been slashed, and the economy is completely dominated by shop items. The systems are unrecognizable too. The old balance is gone, some classes are basically unplayable, and PvP has turned into a pure bonus race. Servers got merged, most of the old communities scattered, and what's left is mostly bots and trade spam. Bottom line: If you want to log in for a couple of hours and walk through the old maps for nostalgia, I get it — that's exactly what I did. But if you're looking for a fair game to sink real time into, it isn't here anymore. What breaks my heart isn't that the game aged. It's that it turned into a storefront. Recommended for the memories. Not recommended for playing.
