Old game but still nice to play to chillout
classic game, definitely overlooked and worth the download
Just like how I remember from the 2000's when this came out. Warcraft but with robots! Love it!
A very long time ago when I was a kid I would search google for demos and game downloads to play around with. One website called homeoftheunderdogs had a list of abandonware games to download and play. Metal Fatigue was one of the games that I got from that abandonware list. I fell in love with that game and grew a fondness for mechs. Seeing it on steam again 20+ years later was a powerful feeling. Thanks Nightdive for bringing it back.
Macht echt Spaß!
Como extrañe este juego!
El primer nivel es un poco tedioso porque la construcción va lenta pero después mejora. Es difícil pero merece la pena probarlo.
Metal Fatigue, developed by Zono and published by Nightdive Studios, is a distinctive real-time strategy game that stands out for its ambitious mechanics and futuristic setting. Originally released in 2000, it challenges players to navigate a high-tech, corporate-dominated future where three human factions compete over advanced alien technology. The game blends traditional RTS elements with innovative features, particularly its multi-layered battlefields and highly customizable combat units, creating a rich strategic experience for players willing to invest time and attention. The story of Metal Fatigue is set in the 23rd century, a time when humanity has achieved faster-than-light travel and encountered remnants of an ancient alien civilization, the Hedoth. Their technology becomes a coveted resource, sparking competition among the three corporate powers: RimTech, Mil-Agro, and Neuropa. Each faction has unique philosophies, technologies, and approaches to warfare, providing players with a variety of playstyles. The narrative explores corporate ambition, espionage, and ethical dilemmas, grounding the futuristic conflict in human motivations and political intrigue. One of the game’s most remarkable innovations is its three-tiered battlefield system, which separates combat into orbital, surface, and underground layers. This design forces players to think vertically as well as horizontally, managing units and resources simultaneously across multiple planes. The dual-resource economy—energy and manpower—adds another layer of strategy. Energy must be harvested from natural sources like solar panels or lava flows, while manpower is generated through facilities such as cryofarms. Balancing economic growth with military expansion is a continual challenge that keeps players engaged and constantly reassessing their tactics. Central to Metal Fatigue’s gameplay are the Combots, modular mechs that can be customized with different torsos, arms, and legs to create units tailored to specific combat scenarios. Each faction offers unique components, encouraging experimentation and diverse strategies. The level of customization allows for a personal approach to battles, as players can design units optimized for speed, firepower, or durability. Combined with traditional RTS unit types, such as infantry and vehicles, this system offers a depth rarely seen in strategy games of its era. Despite its creativity, Metal Fatigue has a steep learning curve that may deter some players. Managing units across three layers of combat simultaneously can be overwhelming, and coordinating resources while fending off enemy attacks requires careful attention. The interface, while functional, can feel cumbersome, especially when issuing commands to multiple units in different planes. Additionally, the AI can be unpredictable, occasionally producing frustrating encounters that challenge even experienced RTS veterans. Visually, Metal Fatigue employs a voxel-based engine that, while dated by modern standards, conveys its futuristic world effectively. The environments—ranging from industrial surfaces to orbital arenas—are clear and readable, aiding strategic planning. The soundtrack complements the atmosphere, providing a tense, industrial tone that underscores the high-stakes nature of corporate warfare. These audiovisual elements, though simple by today’s standards, enhance immersion and reinforce the game’s unique identity. Overall, Metal Fatigue remains a noteworthy title within the RTS genre due to its inventive mechanics and strategic depth. Its multi-layered battlefield, modular unit customization, and engaging corporate conflict create a challenging and rewarding experience. While its complexity and dated interface may pose hurdles for new players, strategy enthusiasts seeking a distinctive and innovative RTS will find Metal Fatigue to be a compelling and memorable game.
