Reviews
This game feels like a worse, clunkier version of Assemble With Care. The story is weird, the controls feel bad, the rotation system is clunky and frustrating, it just doesn't work. That and the weird forced minigames make this a negative review for me.
Hey. You responded to the first review, so I'm hoping you see this one too. This is a really good base for a game. The review can be a bit weird, and it's obviously content short(It is early access so that makes sense. I came from Jobby's sponsorship from you guys, and I have a couple ideas for you. You should consider being able to use the arrow keys to manipulate the base of the object you're assembling. That would fix a lot of jank with the controls. There should also be a skip button for the cutscenes. I wouldn't skip them but it's just nice to have options for people who don't care about the story. I also think that while I didn't really do some of this stuff, I think that it does remind me of when I took apart my transformer toys to pretend they got their arm cut off. I think having a level based on that would be pretty cool. Good job, The game definitely needs some work but I'm sure you'll see it through.
i cant not recommend this game due to the state it is in, it would of been nice if they kept to what they promised but they never did and from what it sounds like they decided to release more games instead of finishing a game they have already. with out telling the community why they are doing what they are doing
An Assemble With Care-like with some pretty bad control issues. I still appreciated the journey the game was taking me on. However, the devs appear to have ghosted, so I'm leaving a negative review on that basis, to warn people away from the purchase. If the devs return and update in the future, I will change my review to positive.
I get what this game is trying to show and tell, but as it stands now, everything about it can be summed up with one word: annoying. The character design is meh (I don't like over-emphasized head sizes, a.k.a. "bobble heads", this is also what ruined the game "My Time at Portia" for me). I won't hold this against the game since it's subjective though. What I do hold against the game is the gameplay itself, it is trying to be basically similar to "Assemble with Care" which tells it's story through repairing cherished broken things. This game fails at the core gameplay though. The controls during the repairs is honestly not too bad, but multiple times I was at a state where nothing was interactable in some way or another. During the skateboard repair it wouldn't let me combine any part until I had the exact right part focussed and combined it with another exact part, The game wouldn't let me combine them in any other way that would be realistically possible IRL. During the cassette player repair I had everything finished up and put together, but nothing happened, no idea what was wrong and no idea how to continue. Sidenote: This grandpa is wild, he seems to have stocked every repair part imagineable including completely new parts for the cassette player, but for some reason just wanted to order a brand new one? Doesn't make sense at all. :D The game doesn't really give great feedback about which interactions are possible and which aren't, leading to some frustration and fiddling around until it finally works. I see this as a limitation on how the possible "steps" and interactions are programmed. Also for some inexplicable reason the game forces you to do some weird keypress combinations or quicktime events to assemble certain parts... Why though? This adds nothing of value to the game. And then, after a repair is finished, it requires you to do some weird minigame depending on what object you repaired, only that these are horribly clunky. The one from the handheld console looked like the outcome of a 10 minute YouTube tutorial on how to program a sidescrolling platformer, only with worse textures and controls. The one after the skateboard repair I couldn't even comprehend on what to do, the goal was to skate around and avoid obstacles, only that the first obstacle was a complete roadblock, I tried to jump over it and couldn't, game over, can't even try again. No idea if that was intended or not, the game wouldn't tell me. Sorry for my rambling but in this state I cannot recommend it, as the better "Assemble with Care" is available at a slightly lower pricepoint, similar gameplay and story but with much more polish.

Revisit: September 7 2024. Revisited So many months after my purchase in October 2023, I have to change my review and recommendation of this - so called- game. DO NOT BUY THIS!! Unfortunately, like many other Early Access games, the developers use it to dupe trusting gamers (like me) and abandon the game after getting enough money from it or what they deemed "good enough" from it. This game is a perfect example. After abandoning the game with no explanation anywhere - discussion boards or in the game updates. The developers went on to release 2 games this year (2024): https://store.steampowered.com/app/2782420/Minimal_Escape/ and https://store.steampowered.com/app/2887290/Odd_Eye/ No Early Access, just full releases. It does seem Odd Eye has been buggy, but they also haven't addressed any of these issues. Steam Page doesn't show any update history either. The discussion board for this game will show you that they just up and left around the end of November, as you can see on their last communication through the game's patch notes for November 28 2023. https://steamcommunity.com/app/2546170/eventcomments/4038102480395055502/ There was one community post in January 2024 where someone mentioned a bug and they replied with the normal " we'll get on that"... https://steamcommunity.com/app/2546170/discussions/0/4040357717321327952/ Complete and utter silence after that. We were duped. The game had potential, and it was cute and entertaining but abusing a community's trust is unforgiveable and unfortunate in my book. So, again, DO NOT BUY THIS GAME, in fact don't buy ANY of their games. This treatment to players goes beyond disrespectful, and no one should accept that. I am not deleting my original review (below) because those were my thoughts at that moment. Not anymore though. -------------------------------------------------- Previous Review Even though the game is still in Early Access, I still chose to go ahead and leave a review because so far, its a great game. I am expecting great things once the game is fully released. The story is cute and quirky. The fix it puzzles are very entertaining and fun. There is something about taking apart things and putting them back together that hits that dopamine production making you feel so good. The devs have not released all the stories or pages yet, but I await eagerly. Now, having played it as is. I don't know if I would say buy it at its current price since there is little content compared to other similar games. I do recommend the game but I may say, hold off until they add a bit more content or until the game fully releases to be able to justify the price to the content.
