Inspired by RuneScape, Melvor Idle takes the core of what makes an adventure game so addictive and strips it down to its purest form! This is a feature-rich, idle/incremental game combining a distinctly familiar feel with a fresh gameplay experience. Maxing 20+ skills has never been more zen.

Prices
The United States storefront in every case, so this compares stores and not countries.
Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 5.29/day in the week to Aug 16 → 5.57/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Poland over the last 30 days: the 21 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 12 places towards #1, and the 2,501 moves with no price cut behind them went 1 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

VERY GOOD

The shorthand for Melvor Idle writes itself: RuneScape in a spreadsheet. OSRS without the walking simulator. Runescape if it was good. Six years after launch, with a sequel already in early access on Patreon, that framing fits because the design has not changed. Melvor strips out the avatar, the world map, the chat, and the quests, and keeps the one thing veteran RuneScape players quietly admit they were always playing for: the skill bars filling up.
Gameplay
The loop is honest about what it is. Pick a skill (Woodcutting, Fishing, Smithing, Magic, Runecrafting, around twenty in total counting DLC) and point your character at it. Come back in 30 minutes or 12 hours and the inventory's fuller. No walking, no banking trips, no other players. Combat is automated too: build a loadout, select a monster or dungeon, let the dice roll. Offline progress caps at 24 hours, which is the right number. Less would feel punitive. More would defeat the point. The XP curves slow exponentially, which is one of the smarter design decisions in the genre and turns the game into a question of what to train next, not a tap-to-win where the only variable is patience. Past the 1,000-hour mark, Melvor reveals itself as a min-maxing exercise wrapped in an idle game. Gear sets, prayers, potions, agility courses with stacking bonuses, summoning familiars, and an endgame of dungeons and bossing where build composition actually matters. The depth is real. The problem is that the depth hides behind tooltips so thin that the in-game help buttons sometimes link directly to a fan wiki. The game is borderline unplayable without a wiki tab open. Whether that is a flaw or a feature depends on how you feel about reading documentation. The biggest gripe about Melvor in 2026 is that it is not actually that idle anymore. Township, a city-building skill added in a major update, wants you to assign jobs every couple hours. Farming wants you back when crops mature. Runecrafting sometimes just halts when materials run out, with no resume and no queue. It's a real frustration, and it gets worse the deeper you go into the post-base-game content. There's a line that captures it: NOT SO IDLE ANYMORE. The fix is mods. The game ships with a mod manager that does not break Steam achievements, which is a small miracle. The popular mods automate check-ins, queue tasks, and let you train multiple skills at once. The base experience has drifted from the title. The modded experience is closer to what the title promises.
Technical & performance
The technical state is where the case starts to crack. A specific bug has surfaced in the last month: the game keeps running after you close it, pinning a CPU core at 15-25% and ignoring Steam's stop command, requiring a Task Manager kill to actually shut down. Reports on the official Discord have gone unanswered. Frame rates are uneven for what is essentially a menu-driven game. It is possible to log 5-25 fps while idling and 80-120 fps while a task is running, on the same machine, within the same session. The cause is unclear. The symptom is consistent enough to take seriously rather than write off as one bad rig. The save system is the angriest part of the picture. Cloud sync between Steam, mobile, and browser is the headline feature and also the thing that has eaten a non-trivial amount of progress. Months of work can be wiped when the mobile app force-saves on launch over a fresher Steam save. Client crashes can swallow everything since the last manual save. The unofficial rule is to mash the cloud save button before doing anything. That this rule has to exist tells you something. There is also no music and no sound effects of any kind, total silence, which can be a dealbreaker on its own in the first half hour.
Verdict
Recommended, with caveats. Melvor Idle 2 is already in early access on Patreon, and the case for waiting for the sequel rather than buying this one at full price is real. The base game is solid, and the price-per-hour for anyone who goes deep is hard to argue with. The DLCs are a coin flip: the first two are worth picking up and help the mid-game pace, the third should wait until you have cleared enough content to actually reach it. There is no story, no quests in any meaningful sense, no characters. If you came up on RuneScape and you want the dopamine loop without the time investment, this is the closest thing on the market. If you want a game in the conventional sense, look elsewhere.
Pros

24-hour offline progression that actually feels generous
Built-in mod manager that does not void Steam achievements
One purchase covers Steam, mobile, and browser with cross-save
Endgame depth for the build-craft crowd, with stacking bonuses that reward planning
Devs still patching the game six years after launch
No microtransactions despite the genre's reputation
Exponential XP curves that turn the game into a routing problem rather than a wait timer

Cons

Game frequently fails to close, leaving a background process eating CPU
Cloud sync has overwritten months of progress
Township and Exploration feel like chores even by idle-game standards
Tooltips are thin enough that the fan wiki is mandatory reading
Skills sometimes stop progressing silently when materials run out
No music, no sound effects, total silence
UI looks every one of its years, and many menus are not standardized

Who this is for

Lapsed RuneScape and OSRS fans who want the grind without the time sink
Spreadsheet optimizers who enjoy theorycrafting more than executing
Anyone who wants a game running on a second monitor during the workday
Long-haul completionists who treat 1,000 hours as a starting position

Who should skip

Anyone who wants a true set-and-forget idle game (this one isn't, anymore)
Players who need narrative or characters to stay engaged
Anyone sensitive to outdated UI or missing audio
Anyone debating between this and Melvor Idle 2 right now (the sequel is close enough to wait for)
I bought a month of patreon and got 2 and this with it, seems worth it, I only really plan on playing 2. That said, I had a save from web that I loaded up in this, and it said to make a name and I was like 'weird but okay'. Turned out it overrode my save. Kinda annoying. I could start again but again I may as well just wait for 2 at this point, its at 0.9 so it cant be too long off. I DO NOT LIKE THE MOD SYSTEM. I want a pure game, and I obviously dont like the save system since it ruined my file. Actual gameplay is fun and its a well made game, from what I played on web,
Игра на пару часов, не больше
The client that this game functions through runs like crap. When i'm not actively performing some action 5-25 fps, when an action is underway 80-120 fps. This thing is so borked. Also, it's just single-player Runescape, which some people like and enjoy, but this is a very grindy "experience." I regret this purchase.
