I have mixed feelings about this game. There's no options to change the gameplay window size, no options to save where you're at (I wish this was made clearer in the beginning) so you're always starting fresh, and the 'detailed stats' don't actually seem to line up with the previous round. Sometimes it will say 'I made all my orders' on a game where I botched three, and then it will say I botched three on a game where I did fine and fulfilled everything. This seemed especially true around Month 25+ I feel like this is a game that would actually suit Steam Achievements, given the gameplay is extraordinarily repetitive. That being said, for anyone who likes these sorts of games, I can see it being one that you could mindlessly play and I think the strategy tree is interesting. This game feels like it will do better with improvement.

Mead Crafter is a fairly basic Match-3 game where you must assemble 3 tiles together against the right kind of jug, that's all there is to it. This is basically a mobile app that's been launched on Steam by mistake. While this is free, there's no real value in this for PC gamers. You can play Match-3 games free on the web and on mobile.
This is an easy to pick up and put down match 3 game with a twist and a story. The recipe items are manually moved around the board by you, they do not automatically drop into lower positions when swapped with another item. The swaps can be done in any direction and the recipe has 3 ingredients needed to be matched to a receptacle. There are many elements to the game, such as banner choice, and a skill tree as well as skill purchases and gold management. Each customer order has a recipes at the side of the board and should ideally be fulfilled in the order they appear but can be done out of order at a price. If you disregard the customer recipes list order you run the risk of ruining a previous order in the list. To gain the prestigious award of mead maker to the king you must be both fast (60 seconds per order set) and accurate in your choices and also aware of where you place the other swapped item as it could ruin a set of ingredients already in place. On the whole as a first offering from Viroid Games Inc I found it to be a simple concept while being both diverse for a match 3 and also challenging enough to keep me playing. The skill tree has skills to buy to improve your talents at mead making. You pay employees and rent so there's a tiny element of management thrown in as well. It is in my opinion an interesting time waster and my only real reservation is that you have to start afresh each time you play so getting to the allusive mead master award will need you to essentially have a few hours to kill to actually complete.
It is hard to recommend a game that has no saves and no sanity check on random ingredient generation (it can deprive you from getting the one in your orders several play sessions in a row — my worst result is 4 sessions in a row on a base selection of ingredients/containers with 3-5 incompletable orders, which results in a game over), despite the game being free. So I won't. Sometimes it feels like in a mobile version there were microtransactions that allowed players to change ingredients/containers on the fly to suit what players need, but for a Steam release those were 'patched out'.
Terrible experience. I love this kind of games to relax, though the first surprise was that it is not relaxing game at all. You are seriously pressured to perform with speed and accuracy, while the game is (either intentionally or non-intentionally very innacurate or more correctly said not having pleasant controls). The main problem I encountered is though that it is programmed in a way that it intentionally gives high effort to make you lose. I truly managed to provide what the game asks: great speed, performance, accuracy on my side, even learned to use the skill "tree" in strategic way, yet the game seriously made me lose no matter. I don't want to say it's not possible to win because there might be some combination of steps and luck that allow you to win, maybe, maybe... But I really gave great performance and was forced to lose even though I was really good. If the purpose of this game is to show you how it feels difficult to be entrepreneur, then I don't need that! I have my own real-life experiences. Thanks, but I don't want that, this should be game and it should be fun. The in-built progress is that you have to buy skills, but those skills are more upgrades which are a trap, as they also give you great disadvantages - either you have to pay higher rent, wages etc. or you have to play with too many ingredients and combinations that are less likely to match the incoming recipes. So no matter what you choose, you will end up either paying more money than you can make or you end up unable to fulfill the recipes. Other variables are number of recipes/orders (since you cannot fulfill many, you need even more to have chance to have luck to get one that is possible to fulfill) and time. But since I learned to be really quick, the additional time was even against me as I repeatedly found myself having to wait for the time counter to run out as I had nothing to do anymore and there is no way to end the round manually when nothing can be played anymore. The authors would in my case probably say that I didn't buy enough skills that would give me more orders, that my problem was not having enough fulfillable orders, but if I bought those skills, I would have to pay more rent/wages and then I would lose even sooner as the profit would not match the expenses anyway. This is the process of squeezing you into a trap. I have even series of screenshots to back up what I am saying, that I was given intentionally repeatedly unsolvable scenarios. What do I mean? Simply you are given random ingredients and random recipes. Well, they want you to believe that probably, but I don't believe that they are random anymore after the hours I spent on it. You are in fact intentionally given recipes and ingredients that do not match. Yes, by being even quicker and doing what is possible, sometimes the needed ingredient drops in and then if you are super super speedy you can do the time-sensitive task that gives more profit. I managed even that! When it was possible. I even accepted that I may need to continue playing for long and suffer the times when life is hard in order to survive for the better times but the better times never came. In fact, I was given unsolvable scenarios again and again until it robbed me of all money. And yes, I was even clever to not spend all money so I have something for the bad times... while yes, I also thought about buying skills in time and not do the opposite mistake either. But no, the game is not sovlable, not playable. It's fake. Maybe maybe someone can get lucky, combined with this superman performance and correct steps, yet...that was not my case. I am really really annoyed because I became superman instead of relaxing and it was not enough to win or even reach closer to end. Too long series of unsolvable scenarios and I don't believe it was bad luck. There should not be such a bad luck possible anyway, in a properly programmed game. While I like the concept, it's unique, and I'd love the game to work properly, I have to say I was robbed of money. Sad story and not relaxing, not greatly done and not possible to win. I am writing this angry review on behalf of all the betrayed players as I can very well imagine how others are fooled by this and how the authors rely on people not getting to the goal and thinking they (the players) screwed. Because it's inhuman to become so robotically precise, quick etc. it means that most people will simply think they are doing mistakes, that it's their fault. Well, I got beyond that barrier and I know I became good enough yet the game is the one that is causing the failure. Edit: Played it again with even stronger eye on the strategy which skills to choose first and on precision and it really is as I said, in short the difficulty is set too high, it's virtually impossible to win. I forgot to say last time that also whenever you make a mistake, you are severely punished: just after you do the mistake, you are deprived of the ingredient that you used wrong and in order for you to "feel" your mistake stronger, you are given many recipes that need that ingredient. It's really really extreme, as if the game had difficulty levels and you picked "insane difficulty" by accident, except there is no difficulty choice in this game. How can you be punished for wasting one ingredient once by being given all recipes requesting that exact ingredient and at the same time being deprived of that ingredient completely? That's some really harsh BDSM. The creator seems to have been extremely frustrated person that needed to vent their pain from their own failures in business or it makes no sense. Again I made screenshots and I have evidence that you are easily given all screen of recipes for the exact ingredient you are short of. And another detail for you to know how purposefully malicious the author is: he intentionally hides one time-sensitive recipe at the bottom of the list of recipes (orders), knowing you will overlook it first. Yet even after you learn that trick, you are not victorious, because the difficulty requesting from you great speed raises high. Also, through buying skill that assures having more recipes (orders) you are not safe by having more options to make profit but instead you are requested to fulfill perfectly all of them or you lose. Losing in this game means you have to start from scratch again btw. Really, the difficulty is set by default on insane and you are not given any option to change the difficulty. This game creates only pain and extreme anxiety. It is absolute opposite of relaxing game. The most extreme of extremes.
Before I played Mead Crafter, I had a small pp, no friends, no gf, depression, and no life. These things havent changed, but the game is pretty good
