Unfortunate end to a project that had a significant amount of potential. I really wanted Maximum Football to succeed. For a while, it felt like this game had a real chance to become something different than what's been fed in the Football space from EA and such. Unfortunately, the recent update pretty much killed the game for me. The biggest issue for myself is the removal of normal Exhibition play with custom teams. That was the main reason I played. Taking that away, and restricting custom teams so heavily, completely guts one of the best parts of the game, and what should have been their focal point. Instead of leaning into what made Maximum Football unique, customization, offline play, Dynasty, Franchise, sandbox freedom, and actual football improvement The focus has shifted heavily toward MPL. And honestly, it’s embarrassing to see. What it needed was better gameplay, better AI, better defense, better animations, better Franchise/Dynasty stability, and more freedom for custom teams. Instead, we lost core functionality and got pushed further toward a mode many of us never gaf about. At this point, the direction is not for me anymore. Removing custom team Exhibition play was the final straw. I’ll be uninstalling the game and will not be spending any more money on it unless the developers seriously reverse course and restore what was ridiculous to remove in the first place. There was real potential here. That’s what makes this so disappointing.

Perhaps the worst football game I've ever played in my life, worse than the Maddens of the last 15 years or even the bottom tier football games of yesteryear like Quarterback Club 98. From the physics and game feel, to the graphics and presentational aspect, to playbooks, audibles, and franchise/dynasty, there is nothing approaching a positive quality, or even a launching point for future improvements. It would be one thing if this game had a heart and soul of its own, if it fit into the box that previous entries in the series had been put into (that of a scrappy indie underdog), but it's unrepentant F2P trash. This sounds ridiculous but there is honest-to-God more passion in Madden 25. The most embarrassing thing is not the game, however, it's my own delusion, and the time I sunk into it. Though the gameplay was awful and unbalanced (good luck running or even receiving a single block from your O-Line!), I am a complete sicko for create-a-team features. One of my favorite aspects of the 'golden age' Maddens around 2002-2008 was the ability to create a team, a stadium, custom players, or add existing players through a fantasy draft. Granted, the feature was a little barebones and never expanded on, despite each new release promising more, but I loved it! Maximum Football goes a little farther: despite being tied to cloning existing team palettes, there are over 100 pre-generated teams, so it allows for several unique striping patterns, and you can create a ton of alternate jerseys with no restrictions. I had come to the admission that this game was not good, after all, the football is the best part. But I was so excited to create a custom league of my own and engage in the clunkiest, nerdiest dynasty ever (I'm the type of loser who ran a Madden 2004 franchise until 2032 and then it just told me the franchise was over). But more problems emerged. The stadiums you save to teams don't save. No matter, not the end of the world. I finish *32* teams, one of the lower league settings. Maybe I was doing something wrong, and maybe this was rectified later, but it turns out, it doesn't matter what setting you choose - the dynasty mode is 130 teams no matter what. So my stupid ass makes 98 MORE TEAMS! I spent the better part of 50 hours just making teams. Ridiculous stuff - teams in Bolivia, teams in Myanmar, teams in Casper, Wyoming. I used every color of the rainbow multiple times, imported custom logos for several dozen. The process itself was kind of fun for a while, but insanely taxing. Once I hit that 132, I was so burnt from making teams in Morocco and South Sudan and Nova Scotia that I took a break for a couple of weeks. And when I came back it was all gone. Every team, every custom roster or depth chart I tweaked in preparation for this foolish undertaking, every imported logo that other players had themselves potentially spent hours working on. Everything I downloaded, everything I wasted time on. Gone. And then I was too.
This game brought me so much hope when it was originally announced that Modus Games acquired the rights to Maximum Football and I genuinely was dumb enough to think it would bring us a great alternative to the disappointing giants of the American Football video game genre. Unfortunately, that did not happen. I should've known the second it was announced this pile of trash was going to be free-to-play that it was just going to be a horrible attempt at Fortnite but for American Football video games. I guarantee with a price tag of 20-30 dollars, Modus Games, or Maximum Entertainment could've invested in better development. Instead, we get a trash ass video game that focuses more on micro-transactions than it actually does providing a good gaming experience. If you're thinking about giving this game a try for the first time, or coming back and hoping for positive change since the last time you gave the game a try, don't. Simple as that. Today is definitely the last time I ever give this game a try. Waste of time.
Started off with great customisation compared to some of the other non-EA options but they've completely stuffed that with their recent updates. Can't play custom teams in Exhibition, all of the stats are borked and it has shifted to a purely purchase based online gameplay. Don't bother buying this.
MPL 2.0 update effectively killed the single player mode for players like me who just to unwind after a long day and tired of Madden issues and CFB game still not coming to PC at the time of this writing. Want to play exhibition with the preset teams? You only have 6 teams instead of 30+ teams like it used to be because they locked the rest of them in Dynasty. Also the available teams to play have all 56 overalls by default and you can't do anything about it. Want to use your custom teams? Nope, can't do that either. In conclusion : Play modded NFL 2K5 instead. This game no longer worth your time playing.
For starters, DO NOT download this game. DO NOT waste your money on anything in this game. Also note, that the majority of my time spent on this game was creating teams/players because the customization was very promising at first. The more detailed review: When I first heard of this game, I immediately wanted to support it to rival Madden, CFB etc and honestly it started out great. A few bugs here and there but it seemed like the developers were actively engaging with the community to make something enjoyable since it was still in early access. The customization options were plentiful, the mechanics were enjoyable and I could play for hours. Plus the majority of my time on this game was dedicated to creating teams/uniforms for real world college programs. But as time went on and more updates were deployed it became clear the devs began focusing on adding features instead of fixing core components. For example, dynasty mode still does not have the ability to create your schedule at the start of each season or when creating uniforms you cannot place numbers on top of the shoulders, both of which have been requested numerous times by myself and others for MONTHS. Yet, we get ridiculous season passes that virtually no one asked for. The gameplay mechanics have taken a steep dive too. At first the motions were a bit clunky but nothing too over the top. However, it has been almost a year (if not longer) and those same issues are still present or have gotten worse with every update. But you know what gets priority? More season passes and content locked behind a paywall! The last point I want to highlight is the Ai. When I first started it was extremely easy to play against. You could play a team with 99's all around and still put up 50+ by the end of the half if you wanted. It just wasn't fun after a while. If you were on defense, you could almost always stop the offense because they would never pass. Whether if it was a 5 yard pass or 50 yard pass the QB would never attempt it. I had games with 10-15+ sacks. Sure as time went on the Ai became a bit more difficult but it wasn't that noticeable. I have a Dynasty session where I've won 18 straight championships and that's after several updates they've made to the game where they "addressed how the Ai plays". Fumbles, injuries, numerous noticeable bugs and many other things have gotten much worse to the point where if you look at their Discord everyone has complained about the MPL 2.0 update recently launched. You can't even play exhibition with your created teams and (according to different posts) it's basically another version of Madden's Ultimate Team. Just another greedy company trying to force people to play something they don't want. I haven't played in more than a month and that's after playing almost every day consistently. I even bought a console to play CFB 26 since it was on sale and because it wasn't confirmed if 27 was coming to PC. Either way, I will NOT be playing Maximum Football for the foreseeable future and may uninstall it entirely to make room for other games.
nothing like the game when it first came out.
Had a custom league that took ages to set up, last couple of updates completely destroyed hours and work. Don't buy this game unless you like to be screwed over by devs.
Since the Big Update, I cannot play in solo anymore, the Update deleted my team (fanchise ?), did not give me back an ticket (that is needed to play solo), so i cannot play anymore for free, because the two solo modes are behind an paywall (20$ each).
This game, which opened with hope, has become ruined with so-called "updates" which destroyed its playability. Ball-carriers unexplainably run in slow-motion. Pass plays inexplicably become run plays. There's no way for users to adjust the gameplay in any real sense. The game is barely playable at all. Did you create your own team? Now it's gone, lost in ether. Maximum Football has been rendered almost useless.
