About
MAWGATEMawgate is a short narrative-driven survival horror game set in the 19th century.
Maria Moore, a young woman deemed “hysterical” under mysterious circumstances, awakens inside Mawgate Asylum, alone, disoriented, and abandoned. Her husband, William, is nowhere to be found.
Something has gone terribly wrong.
The asylum is no longer a place of treatment, but of terror. Twisted creatures roam its halls, and whatever happened the night Maria was taken has turned Mawgate into a waking nightmare.
To survive, Maria must explore the labyrinthine institution, uncover its secrets, and find the enigmatic director, Dr. Hawley, before it’s too late.
Survive Mawgate AsylumA sprawling, interconnected facility filled with locked doors, hidden compartments, and cryptic puzzles. Every corner hides answers, and danger.
Solve environmental puzzles to progress
Manage scarce resources and stay alive
Fight or outmaneuver the horrors within
Uncover the truth behind Mawgate’s fall
Maria MooreBorn into poverty and thrust into aristocratic life through marriage, Maria never belonged in the world she was forced into. Independent, strong-willed, and unwilling to conform, she dreamt of freedom, travel, art, a life beyond expectation.
Those dreams died the night she was taken.
Now imprisoned within Mawgate Asylum, stripped of control and branded insane, Maria must rely on her resolve to survive. Claustrophobic, isolated, and hunted, she is determined to escape and uncover what became of her husband.

Nice story, Very engaging with a uniform design overall. Sounds are good and did not take me out of the story or gameplay. Same goes for the music. Music worked really well with the sounds and really added the extra for me to be engaged. the game feels like an older console game that i personally liked. Some small bugs but nothing game breaking. OVERALL 10/10 all the love to the dev team <3
Easily the most "complete" feeling free survival horror game I have played. On day 1 of release I had only the most minor of complaints, like some of the text in the intro vanishing too quickly and a single consumable item disappearing from my inventory without having used it. This game would absolutely be worth paying for, it's got a lot more polish than many games I HAVE paid for. The game does a good job with atmosphere and tone, and handles the simple but reliable format of survival horror exploration and threat management quite well, although a hard more would be nice as it's a little on the easy side. The overall UI is great, stylized to suit the game aesthetic and works exactly as it should which is also often an issue with many smaller games in this genre. There is no controller support but the game works just fine with mouse and keyboard. Mawgate is about an hour long and although it doesn't really deliver anything all that new to the genre, it presents itself with a clean and confident delivery that puts this developer very much on my radar for future survival horror projects as they clearly know how to lay the foundation for this style of game. If you want a short, free to play genuine survival horror game, look no further than Mawgate. And if you are interested in more lesser known 3rd person survival horror games of all shapes and sizes, come have a look at my curator page. https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45050657/

Very good free game, quick and easy to play with a good story and advanced playstyle Would recommend to try it out :D
great art, polished game - would pay for this some issues with ultrawide monitor - Opening dialogue - Safe code interface
A typical boring 2D game — there are hundreds like this, and if you’re choosing, you can easily find something much more interesting and visually appealing.
Honestly really good, especially for a free game. There are some bugs, but it's a good length and decently written
This game is soooo good!!! Amazing athmosphere, the graphics are incredible and it really nails the creepy asylum vibes to a T!!! The combat is fun and engaging and the resident evil like puzzles are very well done! It was really easy to immerse yourself in the enviorment and the almost mazelike layout. Just absolutely incredible in every sense of the word!! 10/10!!!
It's a nice indie-game, it has a nostalic feel to it. It's a very short game, you can finish it maybe a little bit over an hour. I liked it, but one thing I would give critique for is
that we don't know what happend to the Doctor! After the "liquid" puzzle, he just vanishes!
This game is very immersive, i like it. Anyway,
it was funny that the doctor just disappeared at the end.
Great game! Really liked it. A very condensed ode to horror games of yore. Only things I didn't like were the hitboxes. Enemies could clip into geometry and cause your bullet to collide with the furniture instead of them. Conversely, the character hitbox is gigantic and you will often get hit when the attack is nowhere near your sprite. Both of these issues expressly highlighted by the little Cthulhu babies that shoot projectiles. But it's free and it's short. If they make a longer game or paid game with the same engine, then all they have to do is fix those hitboxes and it would be perf.
