i hate climbing i hate mountains i hate math i hate my life after this game 10/10
I CANT STRESS THIS ENOUGH , this is the literally definition of a hidden gem. so at first i saw a video of this game on tiktok which made me buy the game just cause of the artstyle, then start playing it and i immediately got hocked into it, even tho i was playing games like doom 1+2 and assassin's creed 2 which are one of the gratest games of all time, but i completly forgot abt them , i liked everything abt the game , the art style , the music , jokes and levels design they were all good as hell, even the achievements . the only 2 cons i would say the game has is ; 1 unachieveable (imo) achievements, which im planing to reach the dev abt it 2 is how the mid game is abit too much hard , which is just a game design lastly i would give this game 7.8/10

Considering this was my first :"Getting Over It" type game, I wasn't expecting it to be this charming and replayable, albeit short and frustrating at times. ART The game's art style and charm were nostalgic, like an old 90s math point and click adventure. The pause menu is incredible. I found myself pausing frequently just to see the animation alone. The little piece of paper your character throws away afterwards is a nice touch. GAMEPLAY The controls weren't intuitive at first but after some practice (and falling a lot), I ended up blazing through the earlier levels so falls didn't seem as grueling. There are parts of the climb that are downright EVIL but ultimately feel rewarding once you understand how to navigate them. Solving the math problems became tedious since they take quite a but of time and slow your momentum. It was only after I realized it's to trip you up on your climb, another barrier to prevent you from reaching the summit. So it became part of the challenge to make sure I understood basic arithmetic. Although I've never been so scared of math problems before, and I have a master's in Mathematics. I find myself becoming better doing basic calculations in the real world much faster as a result. STORY Not much story here since it's entirely gameplay focused but it was interesting seeing how the Mathmagician interacts with you as you climb higher. REPLAYABILITY While the game is short and there's a sense of relief for completing the game, I actually was MORE motivated to play it again afterwards. I skimmed the achievements and realized the potential speed of completing the game was much faster than my playtime. So running back through the game trying to find all the little shortcuts to test your technique has been incredibly fun and satisfying. I found myself remembering early on when I was carefully trying to navigate the platforms by walking everywhere I could with no risk, now I'm hopping around like my pencil is a pogo stick, so it feels rewarding to see my own improvements since I started. TLDR: It's a fun and challenging game to pick and play in short bursts since there's no real commitment. If you fall, you can just take a break and play later so it's become one my favorite steam deck games. Overcoming all the major and minor barriers the game throws at you leads to a rewarding experience and I'm looking forward to completing the game in record time. Sidenote: Another review said your screen is locked while playing but that only seems true if you're playing KBM, even though the game suggests you play with a gamepad. If you're playing with a controller, the right analog stick moves the camera around so you can see which direction you need to head towards.
I hate blackberries so much. The controls are good, the pencil flick physics are pretty predictable, but the pencil hitbox feels weird sometimes (it can go past the tip of the pencil, which makes me feel suspicious about the collision of some pointed shapes in the map). My biggest gripe with the game so far is the amount of time takes for showing treasures collected/math question answers. It's both a curse and a blessing, you can take a breather to plan but you also have to break your momentum/focus while waiting... Additionally, there's no looking past your screen's view, so when you're playing blind, you might end up a bit lost at times. Once you get a feel for the pencil physics and hitboxes, the platforming becomes a lot smoother. It's nice that there are shortcuts that require a bit of tech to pull off, and the math portions help with keeping you on your toes. The art style of the game is charming at times, and doesn't really strain your eyes. I would say this game is worth the full price tag--it's solid, fun, and horrifying!
There's 2 main thing you need to know to make a good foddian game. Fun controls and Good map design The control of this game are fun, although i feel like the pull back to launch could be a smidge faster to make the gameplay even more fluid. The math mechanics is fine, but gets annoying after a while. After selecting your answer, it could dissapear instantly instead of waiting 3 sec each time to see you got the right answer. But then the map. Upon looking at other foddian game, it might feel like random object placed randomly but it's not the case for the good game. The object are placed so you can progress, and the fall doesn't negate all that progress. But in this one, the fall are just punishing all the time and its really slow to climb everything back up which really isn't fun. I often don't know if i need to go left or right after falling since the map design is so unmemorable. If the map was better designed, i could forgive the few ick i have with the gameplay but the map is just too punishing and feel like random item placed everywhere.
Great game loving ever fall and every jump. I hope that this game get a sequel-
As a math major at Uni I like this game
Great game, Good game, Amazing game!! :D
I'm not very good at climbers, but I saw this advertised online and found it interesting. I'm glad I gave it a chance, because the visuals are so charming. The controls are easy to pick up. It's frustrating but that comes with the territory of this genre.
Funny little game, but I suck way too much at precision platformers so I wasn't able to continue. If you fall you fall quite back down, I would have preferred some respawning points from time to time! The math is easy (at least at first, can't comment later on), but the climbing very hard.
