A delightful chess-based puzzle game that's short, sweet, and absolutely worth your time.
Mate'Morphosis is a clever puzzle game where you morph into the chess pieces you capture, using limited moves to reach checkmate. Each puzzle presents a unique board with different boundaries and mechanics to master. What makes it special: The variety of mechanics keeps things fresh throughout. You'll encounter crumbling tiles that disappear after use, missing tiles that force creative pathing, tiles that grant you extra moves, (or take them away), and special pieces with unique behaviors. These mechanics are introduced gradually and kept me engaged, though I would have loved to see them explored even further. Who is this for: Knowledge of chess rules is helpful and will deepen your appreciation, but non-chess players can still enjoy this. As a puzzle fan, I found the difficulty relatively easy overall with some satisfying head-scratchers sprinkled in. My one frustration: you must complete puzzles in order with no option to skip and return later. Technical notes:

Completed in under 5 hours
Mouse controls work perfectly; touchscreen also supported
No native controller support, but Steam Input works fine for mouse emulation
Minimal music (2 contemplative classical-inspired tracks) that suits the thoughtful gameplay
No performance issues or bugs
The bottom line: At $2.99 (or even less on sale), this is exceptional value. While replay value is limited (I earned most achievements in one playthrough), the game feels complete and satisfying. I only wish there was more because it's genuinely great, not because it felt unfinished. If you enjoy logic puzzles and creative mechanics, grab this. You'll finish it in an evening, but it'll be a memorable one.
Great game—it honestly feels like Chess 2. The mechanics of transforming into the captured piece and the energy system really set it apart. Even though some levels were definitely maddening, I had a great time overall. Looking forward to designing my own levels soon!
This was the best $2 I've ever spent. 😄 Solving the puzzles was a lot of fun, and the game is very well made. It's definitely worth the money for chess lovers. (If you get stuck on any levels, you can get help from the game developers via Discord)
Fun, relaxing, and creative game of chess.
I absolutely loved the concept of the game. Some levels really pushed me, but I had a great time with them. I was looking forward to new levels coming out. With the editor they recently released, the variety of levels has also increased a lot. It would also be nice to see great community-made levels added to the game.
mouse curser gets bugged sometimes making the game unplayable. but when it works it's fun
Such innovative gameplay. I’ve been waiting for Chess 2 for a very long time, and I didn’t expect it to arrive like this. It’s fast and gripping. Built around a very simple core mechanic, and every level feels like a satisfying puzzle. Its visual language also delivers the aesthetic you’d expect from a game like this.
Really loved the core idea. Capturing pieces and becoming them makes every move feel clever and rewarding, creating some very satisfying breakthrough moments. A good puzzle game should feel satisfying when you solve it, and this game absolutely delivers. The colorblind options and multiple visual themes are also a big plus for accessibility. Pros: - Creative gameplay - Solving a level feels genuinely rewarding - Accessibility - Clean visuals - Difficulty increases in a natural and engaging way Cons: - The core system has room to grow even further ( I think they will continue to add to the game, some greyed out menu buttons hint that)
