Matchbox™ Driving Adventures

A solid game with a good choice of Matchbox vehicles to race. I played using the Steam Deck and it works great. If you are a collector like myself, this might be a game you've really been waiting for. Worth checking out!

Ist ja nett das man hier verschiedene Dinge macht und nicht nur rennen fährt, aber die Steuerung ist schrecklich, das driften lässt das Auto oft unkontrolliert irgendwo hinfahren und oft kommt man mit ein drift nicht mal um eine Kurve, weil der drift mehr Platz braucht als es gibt, dabei ist driften für enge Kurven sinnvoll aber hier, oft unmöglich. Und hör man auf mit Gas geben, endet der drift auch sofort und das Auto fährt irgendwo hin

Matchbox™ Driving Adventures is great we see a proper Matchbox game again and it also takes a little inspiration of Hot Wheels Beat That: Pros: + great graphics + overal track designs are good (12 tracks) + great soundtrack (feels better than Hot Wheels Unleashed games) + driving physics are alright and is a thing gettings used-to (every vehicle have a little different feels and the heavier vehicles also feels a little slower in turning) + the speaker guy is great and makes a good story presentation, i also liked the newspaper article you always get if you beat a mission + chamipionship mode (only this mode have bot difficulty settings with a soild challenge, no idea why adventure mode dont have one) + 3 mission types (race, collect different things, ram persecution) Cons: - actually the only really bad thing in this game are the content itself is weak like a short campaign and only 12 cars - kinda short 7-8 hours if you do all stuff what the game have to offer - the track design is great for sure for what it is but the cars could be a little faster because of so much straights (Hot Wheels Beat That was also slow but they build the track designs in a way better way that it dont feels a little tiresome). Best example would be the volcano track to much straights and kinda nothing much going on - drifitng is also a thing getting-used-to sometimes the turns are way to wide for drifting like in the volcano tracks - no time attack is kinda a shame - a little to low draw distance stuff pop up in the distance Mostly these negative things are nitpicks notihng really bad things at all except for the low content. Pretty fun for a short ride hopefully a sequel make things better with aleast triple as much cars for example!

100% Achievement Review - This is a pretty simple racing game. I was a Hotwheels Kid growing up, so I don't know how iconic these cars are, but there are several game modes in this game. One is when you go between locations it gives you a 'Outrun' style free drive mode where you are just dodging traffic to get from point A to point B. There are standard races with NPC opponents, timed checkpoint races, and collectathon races where you try to get as many items while being chased by a natural disaster. It wasn't the most complex game, and felt a little grindy at the end. To an achievement hunter, I suggest spending money wisely. I dumbly bought paint styles for each new car I bought, which I realized made it harder for me to get all the cars. See, you only get money at the end of an event if you beat your previous time, which is a problem cause you can only do that so many times before it becomes too difficult to earn money. So i really suggest just buying ONE paint job for the achievement to buy a paint job, preferrably a cheap one, and that's it.

TL;DR: A fun game for kids. Recommended for sure. Summary: Back when I was a kid, everyone got Hot Wheels toys. But there is also the underrated ones, called MatchBox. The only model I remember was a firetruck car and a similar Honda Civic model I guess. Don't know. Don't remember. Sh!t, 2004 was something else. Anyway, this racing game might not be on anyone cup of tea, likely because the driving is simplified and bouncy at times. But It was fun, actually! Car Customization only limited to colors, which not a lot, but decent amount of variant. Some of them are alright, others are sh!tshow for driving. The game has Two Modes. Story Adventure and Competitive. The latter, featured couch multiplayer, which you can plug 4 controllers for you and your friend to play in the Competitive mode. The former however, are where the MatchBox cars are put to use, with you often engaging missions like stopping a Thief by ramming their car 8-10 times, Towing broke cars, becoming fireman and ambulance driver and research, which you are placed in this collectible missions from sea-shell or materials. Collecting them all earn you a gold medal. You can forget about the 100% stats, since it required you do everything right, from gold medal and beating time records, sometimes below 2 minutes. While tedious effort, it's optional. CONS: To addressed the cons first, the driving are stiff, bouncy and Handbrakes are non-existent when you press X/Square Button. It's actually a Drift Button. You also, can't remap the game, which is sucks, so you'll have to deal with the controller you are provided. Also, the game rewards are unbalance. Like, I already completed an entire Mission on Gold, but somehow, I earned less points after. Even if you try to redo the same event at 100%, you can't earn a f@#k!ng points to buy new cars for f@#k sake! The only way to earn points after the game completion is to engage in a Drive Routes. Even if you did beat the time records below 1 minutes, you only learn about 3000 Points, which is less. It needs an update. A new mission, new tracks, new vehicle, Steam workshop mod. Gameplay & Car Balance and Allow earning points when replaying the same missions. Also if you are annoyed by the game announcer, you can simply just disable it in the Option menu. PROS: While tedious of a racing game, I actually quiet enjoy it. It's a kids game, but also fun for adults. Especially, when you play with friends and family with the Competition mode. VERDICT: I don't know if the game will ever be updated, but if it does, it would be more fun. The game is actually fun, albeit not perfect. There is a lot of polish the dev needs to make and it only has 30 missions and 5 hours of completion. So, I only recommend this game when it's on sale. Also, the game is DRM-FREE. No need Steam to play it. Just use the MatchBox.exe and you're set. However, doing this, won't let you use the Steam Overlay to track times & earn achievements. 7.5/10
