Extremely bare bones at launch. Avoid.
Grenades are luck based with only a vague correlation to facing, the rocket drone usually fires at nothing, the other weapons (at least those I unlocked) were OK. Even using a "fast" character with a fully upgraded speed, the game feels very slow. The progression tokens are one-use, applying only to your next run. The levels are short, they arbitrarily end it rather than letting you play until character death. Very much a "the food is terrible, and the portions are so small!" kind of situation.
It's a fun game that doesn't take that long to unlock the different weapons and characters. Just requires some common sense and experimentation. While this game doesn't have the depth and complexity nor the quality of life features for which Vampire Survivors is known, this game is still in early access and shows some promise. The only frustrating thing is that you have to purchase upgrades every time you start a new mission, and then you lose those upgrades when you're done, for better or for worse. This lack of permanent character building is a bit of a bummer, but getting more coins to upgrade your character when you start a new mission isn't that difficult. Yes, you CAN heal yourself, but you have to purchase that upgrade every time you start a new mission. Sometimes there will be a hamburger that shows up which heals you for 50 points. I've read some of the reviews and I'm completely baffled at how they can't make any progress in easy mode. If they can't survive the eight minutes with the starting character, it might be a skill issue.
I first tried this game back in November, and it looks like the game hasn't received actual content or balance updates since. For shame, too, because while a StarCraft-ian space marine take on Vampire Survivors is certainly a nice and fresh take (at least visually) on the bullet heaven genre, this game just doesn't have enough elements in place to be really worth it. The matches are short and it takes most of the match to build up a sufficient firepower to feel somewhat of a menace, but stage completion really comes just shortly after on both of the game's maps. You can then replay said maps on various extra difficulties and with new characters, but it's hardly worth it when there isn't even permanent upgrades, only coins you can choose to spend before a run which are then lost forever. The difficulty balance also feels off, with no real healing options and Normal difficulty already being an enormous step up from Easy. Apparently there's plans for many more maps, characters and more, but for now I can't recommend it. No controller support currently. Bullet Heaven Fandom review #40. Game is very unbalanced in 2nd level. The enemies drop what I think looks like gold. As you go through harder enemies, I think there needs to be more gold that drops or a 25% chance to drop more gold. The weapons are too weak and this game has you kiting around the map way too much as compared to Vampire Survivors. It would be fun if there were utility items. As of right now there are only weapons you can get. Nothing that gives you speed boost, passive heals, or some other neat thing like extended pickup rate. These shouldn't count towards weapon slots either. I hope the dev fixes this issue. And this game has the potential to be something good in this new sub-genre we're calling Survival Roguelike? Survival bullet hell?
Warhammer + Starship Troopers
No for now. please balance. Will update after the dev updating the game.
Good Game!
Cool little VSlike game. In early access there is a lot missing for the moment but we can have fun anyway.
A dead game with nothing to recommend it.
