I was very impressed by the graphics of the game and was looking for an easy game for a Sunday evening. It´s really a nice game, and I think there is a very good balance between the story and the actions. Runs very smooth and didn't encountered any bugs. Top! Definitely recommended.
This one is truly a stunning tiny treasure! Witty mechanics that I really didn't see before. I did not experience any bugs at all and game run perfectly with my Logitech contoller.
Plataforma 2D clássico. Já tinha jogado a DEMO e gostei. Vale o preço cobrado!
I am really enjoying the game! At first I wasn't sure if there was a single-player option for this co-op heavy game, but I was able to play the game with mouse and keyboard (The keyboard controlling Mari and Bayu with the mouse). The visuals are stunning and the mechanics easy to pick up. Some of the puzzles might be a bit challenging, but never too difficult. Despite the game's "child-friendly" look, it certainly is not a easy game and keeps you on your toes. I hope this game gets more attention over time, because this one should not be overlooked!
Nice but short game.
The Platformer has it charm but don't bother buying this game since the progress system is bugged!
Really enjoyed this lovely game. Mary and Bayu – The Road Home offers a story about helpless timid little princess who learns to have fun and become a bit braver each step. Not just because her firefly friend has magical wind superpowers and can pretty much fly away from any threat, but because such a friend always has her back. Courage is contagious and kindness is a treasure. I was fascinated to see all the little details of cleverly constructed levels, recognize the usual to us – humans – regular objects and how Mari and Bayu interact with them: from riding a feather to avoiding water drops, from climbing the webbing to blowing away leaves. I mean every world takes you to its own mood, atmosphere, its creatures and interactions. Thanks to incredible art, backgrounds, animations, ambience, musical narrative and creative sound design we can feel what it would really be like – taking an immersive journey as an ant. On top of that the game is designed so that this adventure becomes even more unforgettable with all the challenges before us, puzzling our minds throughout the ever-changing environments. Good luck finding all the hidden places, by the way :) While the game has some small bugs, fear them not! Because not only it IS literally a game about bugs and insects, but also they do not affect the playthrough even if you will find one. Along the way our heroes meet diverse creatures, and while their goals are clear from the beginning and the storytelling is straight and simple, you definetely can feel for them all. To sum it all up, I would like to echo the words of that one hopster with the creaky soul: Go go GO Mari!
Mari and Bayu - The Road Home is a gentle yet emotionally driven 2D platform-adventure that frames its journey through the tiny but perilous perspective of insects, using scale, companionship, and environmental interaction to tell a story about resilience and belonging. Developed by Skinny Bandit and published by PID Games alongside Dear Villagers, the game sets out to blend puzzle-platforming with a heartfelt narrative, creating an experience that feels intimate and reflective rather than fast-paced or combat-heavy. From the outset, it establishes a tone of vulnerability and wonder, inviting players into a world where everyday elements like grass, water, and light become towering obstacles and moments of quiet beauty. The story follows Mari, an ant princess separated from her family after a catastrophic event, and Bayu, a firefly endowed with wind-based powers who becomes her companion and guide. Their shared journey toward home forms the emotional backbone of the game, with both characters carrying personal loss and hope that slowly unfold as the adventure progresses. Rather than relying on heavy exposition, the narrative is delivered through short dialogues, environmental cues, and character interactions that emphasize growth and trust. Mari’s evolution from a frightened and uncertain figure into a more confident traveler is mirrored by the player’s increasing mastery of the game’s mechanics, giving the story a subtle sense of progression that feels earned rather than forced. Gameplay centers on classic 2D platforming, but it distinguishes itself through its reliance on cooperation between Mari and Bayu. Mari handles movement, jumping, and direct interaction with the environment, while Bayu manipulates wind to push objects, lift platforms, activate mechanisms, and create temporary paths. These abilities are woven into puzzle design that encourages experimentation and spatial reasoning rather than reflex-based precision. Many challenges revolve around using Bayu’s gusts to alter the environment in clever ways, such as clearing debris, guiding floating objects, or enabling Mari to traverse otherwise unreachable terrain. When played in local cooperative mode, these mechanics take on an added layer of engagement, as two players must coordinate actions and timing to progress smoothly. The game’s environments are one of its strongest features, presenting a vibrant insect-scale world that feels both whimsical and dangerous. Each area introduces new visual themes and hazards, from lush vegetation to flooded spaces and human-made threats that loom ominously over the tiny protagonists. The sense of scale is consistently effective, making ordinary objects feel monumental and reinforcing the fragility of Mari’s journey. This is complemented by expressive 2D artwork and fluid animations that bring personality to the characters and their surroundings. The soundtrack and ambient sound design further enhance immersion, striking a balance between gentle melodies and atmospheric cues that support the game’s emotional tone. That said, Mari and Bayu is not without its rough edges. Some players may find the controls slightly imprecise, particularly in sections that demand careful platforming or delicate positioning. Puzzle interactions occasionally feel inconsistent, and minor technical issues such as collision quirks or unclear visual feedback can disrupt the otherwise smooth flow of the experience. Additionally, certain abilities introduced later in the game are not always explored as deeply as they could be, leading to moments where the puzzle design feels underutilized or less inventive than earlier sections. Pacing is another area where impressions may vary. The game leans toward a relaxed, exploratory rhythm, which suits its narrative focus but may feel slow or brief to players expecting a more challenging or content-dense platformer. While the journey is carefully curated and rarely overstays its welcome, some may wish for more complex puzzles or extended late-game sections that push the mechanics further. Convenience features such as more flexible checkpoints or faster dialogue handling could also improve replayability and overall comfort. Ultimately, Mari and Bayu – The Road Home is a sincere and thoughtfully crafted adventure that prioritizes atmosphere, emotion, and cooperative problem-solving over spectacle or difficulty. Its strengths lie in its art direction, its gentle storytelling, and the meaningful partnership between its two protagonists. While its mechanical limitations and occasional roughness may prevent it from standing alongside the most polished entries in the genre, it remains a memorable experience for players who appreciate narrative-driven platformers and intimate, nature-inspired worlds. For those willing to embrace its slower pace and imperfections, the journey home with Mari and Bayu offers moments of charm, reflection, and quiet satisfaction. Rating: 6/10
