malViolence - Definitive Edition

I really enjoyed this game! The story was really good and such a twist! I played the game on medium and some puzzles were really hard/time consuming while others were super quick/easy- medium feels like the perfect balance of puzzle solving! Definitively will be recommending!

I went into MalViolence after playing protoViolence, and for the most part, I came away impressed. It’s a solid follow-up that refines the formula, even if it inherits some of its predecessor's flaws. The puzzles are a major highlight. They are challenging but fair for the most part, forcing you to think without being obtuse. The one glaring exception is the quilt puzzle, which is just frustratingly long and feels like it could have been cut in half. The presentation is a big step up. The art style is wonderful and the animation is pretty good, giving the game a fantastic atmosphere. The voice acting is also great especially the final scene, which is why it's a shame the game suffers from the exact same issue as protoViolence. Several voice lines are cut off, and the subtitles don't always keep up during certain scenes. It's a minor but I wish it's a bit more polish on that side. This might be due to Ren'Py limitation, but it's something to keep in mind. I found the story compelling that I was left wanting more. The world building is solid, but I wish it were expanded upon a little more. There's a rich universe here, and I hope future installments dive deeper into the lore. Overall, if you enjoyed protoViolence or are a fan of narrative-driven puzzle games, MalViolence is an easy recommendation. The good far outweighs the technical hiccups, and I'm eager to see where this universe goes next.
