Most of the games that appear on the Free to Play section on Steam end up being average to pretty awful. Every once in a while however, you get a game that's actually worth your time. Although not without its faults, Magika Land of Fantasy is one of those games. Magika gives you a very simple goal once you start the game. Go to the castle, and save Magika. The game doesn't really have a narrative as such - Only the impression that Magika is the place you are at and you are tasked with saving it. You play as a wizard that has two abilities. A fireball attack, and a shield ability. Each ability costs magic points so you have to be careful with how you use them. The shield is much more useful than the fireball attack as it makes you immune to all damage. The fireball attack can be useful from a distance, but is incredibly sluggish and difficult to use. I found myself giving up on using it and just dodged the enemies. The movement controls is something that definitely needs improvement. Although the controls are simple, some of them are really awkward to use. The jump control to be specific. You will find yourself dying to the sluggish jump movement a lot more than to enemies. The jumping mechanic also makes it difficult to jump from platform to platform easily. Luckily enough, the basic WASD movements don't have the same issues as the jump movement. The game is very colourful and nice to look at. The design of the main character and the enemies is also worth a mention. It may be basic, but it fits with the game's theme perfectly. There are a couple of issues with the level design that I'll get back to in a bit, but first, let's focus on the positives. Each level is challenging and creatively designed. There are three types of enemies that are placed in each level. All of these deal a lot of damage if you're not careful. The variety of platforms and terrains makes each level a lot more memorable in its design. There is usually more than one way through a level, giving the player the option to choose which way they think best. The traps are also a nice addition too, and add to the challenging element. Now for the negatives. The complexity of the levels is a double edged sword. Though it's nice that parts of each level are harder than others, the jumping mechanic isn't forgiving, and turns a challenge, into an annoyance. Going back to the fireball attack, fighting enemies is usually not an option due to how sluggish the ability is. This leads to the player jumping over enemies with a shield up. Whether or not this was the developer's intention, is unclear, but I felt that it brought the gameplay experience down a bit. Collectables are a nice touch, and give the player something to do. There's only one problem with them. What are they used for? There are plenty of coins dotted around each level for the player to collect. Some of them are in areas harder to get to than others, but there is simply no reason to get them because they don't add anything to the overall experience. The number of coins collected isn't even recorded either. As well as coins there are what look to be tokens. These suffer from a similar issue, in that it is unclear what most of them do. The only one I really knew was the one that increased your health. This could just be me being stupid, but it would be nice if it were left clearer. The player may also find magic potions that fill up your magic bar which do come in handy. A part of the first level allows the player to immediately skip level 2. If the player manages to find the key - which really isn't hard as it's placed right in the open - they can unlock a door which sends them to level three. Alternatively, the player can skip this and press the button at the end of the level to pass onto level 2. I fail to see the point of this. There is no reason to not get the key and skip through the levels. If the collectables don't add anything to the game, why bother going through the trouble of level 2? The only thing driving anybody to skip the key is curiousity. The final level contains a boss fight which is alright. You face a giant monster that pretty much goes "Hulk. Smash" on you every five seconds. The game prompts you to avoid a head on fight and take an alternate route through a diffcult path to press a button that severly damages the monster. After that, a simple fireball will take him out, (The one time fireball is useful). Once complete, you will be greeted with a credits sequence, and the game ends. Overall, the game was enjoyable, but needs some improvements. There are three main principles to gameplay within a video game. A goal, a challenge, and a reward. What this game is missing, is a reward. A simple score system would be satisfactory. The game lasts up to half an hour which isn't bad since it's free to play. I recommend this for its creatively level design and its challenging gameplay.
Pros
-Challenging -Creative level design -Fun way to kill time
Cons
-Sluggish jump mechanic -Overlooked gameplay aspects -Lack of reward A good attempt - 5.7/10 -------------------------------------------------------------------------- http://store.steampowered.com/app/822110/Magika_Land_of_Fantasy/ If you liked this review, be sure to give it a like!
It's all that Amadeus from Trine wished he could be....except Amadeus is way better!
Amadeus couldn't make fireballs or force fields, but he could create boxes, planks, pyramids, and levitate objects. Amadeus would totally mop the floor with this wizard! Magika Land of Fantasy is currently a set of 3 levels in a linear format of getting from point A to point B. On the way, you avoid what appear to be Moblins and Bob-ombs. But don't go in with high expectations...it's short and you can finish in less than 20 minutes. Magika Land of Fantasy is labeled as being in Early Access, which is a good thing considering how short it currently is. This means there's plenty of growth this title can go through, but I don't have high hopes that it'll become anything great seeing as it feels like it's just your typical platformer game. If I had any complaints, it would be the lack of achievements and the pointless behavior of most of the enemies. You can easily outrun most of the Moblin enemies and your force field will protect you from the Bob-ombs with ease. The difficulty of this game is pretty low when you consider that the enemies can just be walked past. Of course, there is the issue of the enemies resembling copyrighted characters... So, do I recommend Magika Land of Fantasy? It may not have much to offer, but I'd say to go for it. It's nothing stellar, but it's not really all that bad. Decent for a short playthrough with room for growth. 5-6 minutes long if you speedrun it, but it shouldn't take you longer than 20 minutes. No tellin' how this game will evolve, but only time will tell. 5/10 When wizards want to be Mario, they do a decent job...except Mario is better.

Pretty awful platforming and even worse combat. Art and music are asset-flip-tier.
this game is AWESOME! also will this game get more updates?
Magika Land of Fantasy
✯ This game was much shorter than I expected, however it was still a lot of fun. The Jump mechanics are smooth. Graphic is super sweet and colorful for being a F2P game. It tok me about 4 minutes to finish both levels and the Boss itself, so if you get bored sometime, you should definately play this game :) While you are running trough the levels, you will encounter different mobs, such as Bombers, Vikings and dangerous traps. It's pretty much going from point A to B. › Easy and Normal Mode has Checkpoints. Hardmode and Time Attack has no Checkpoints, therefore you will have to survive with 1 life. An average time completition for this game would be between 10 - 20 minutes. You are playing as a Wizard to repeal the attack on your Kingdom. Use your Spell (fireball) to kill enemies. Some of them will drop a power potion upon death. Your other ability, Shield Attack allows you to block incoming damage. Each ability costs magic points so you have to be careful with how you use them. The variety of platforms and terrains makes each level much more memorable in its design. There is usually more than one way through a level, giving you the option to roll which way you want to go. › Developer removed the Gold Coins from Early Access, which I seemed to understand that it was a good thing. Those Gold Coins were not used for anything either way. Each level is challenging in its own aspect I guess, and creatively designed. The game includes a Tutorial and a 'Pause Menu' by clicking escape. Some Platforms will sink when you step on them. Other traps will kill you instantly. One neat ability you get to pick up ingame is the Super Jump. Pros - Challenging and fun. - Very creative - Theme and Character is wonderful Cons - No rewards, missing a Score Tablet or some kind of a reward system. - The Boss fight could have been improved a little bit. - Fireball Ability is kinda sluggish. Does not hit very well, so to say. - Key on Level 1 to unlock Boss Level, which gets you to skip Level 2. ✩ I think that this game was truly enjoyable, but it definately needs some improvements. We all know the three main principles for a video game: 1. Goal 2. Challenge, and 3. Reward. It gives you an empty feeling at the end of this game, so it does really lack a reward system, but you won't regret playing trough it anyhow ☻ 6.5 / 10
good free to play pc game! you can try it!
