Magical Strings is a Unreal Engine based third person fighting game with a twist: the combat is a Dance Dance Revolution style rhythm game. And it's got an ancient China theme. Fight various enemies by hitting the right buttons at the right times.
Despite being made with the Unreal Engine there's a number of technical defects. Resolution and controls are locked, which isn't acceptable for PC. There's an ugly filter or screen blur going on, and with no visual tweaks, it's impossible to improve the visual quality. The game assets are somewhat low poly, but look reasonable enough.
This looks very much as if it was intended to be a console game, and the developers went out of their way to insult PC gamers with console peasant children's toy gamepad prompts. This is particularly interesting because the game doesn't seem to be a console port, it doesn't seem to have been accepted by console manufacturers, possibly due to quality issues. Because there's no customisable controls, there's no way to turn off the insulting console peasant prompts.
It's great that this is free, but the quality isn't at the level that I could recommend this to PC gamers. I feel this should probably have been launched on consoles as the developer seems to have intended, it's inexplicable why a PC exclusive game should have console peasant prompts that can't even be turned off.
