Magical Otoge Ciel

It's free, so defnitely worth a try. Art is okay, grammar is good (yay!) and its a nice change to see a story go for lightness and optimism rather than thinking that dark=mature. However I found the story too trite to really grab me. Light, sweet and optimistic is actually harder to write than dark and angsty, because you have to try harder to engage the readers' emotions, and this wasn't quite up to the task. Lacks depth and pacing, as well as a satisfying resolution, and though I understand it's supposed to not be realistic in any way, there was a bit too many contrivances and "this gets resolved this way because it's CUTE!".

I have some mixed feelings on this one. Its main issue is that it's not particularly written well, which is a huge restraint for its potential quality. While the main characters have traits and flaws, they're far and few in between which makes any attempt at fleshing them out shallow. Florien, Anton, Ciel, they're close to being great but due to a lack of depth they still feel flat. By lack of depth, I'm specifically refering to the fact that they act too predictably due to a lack of character traits; Florien will always be flustered, Anton will always be calm, Ciel will always be laid back. It's not fun to read something you already know, and that fact holds even truer if you only know what's gonna be because of predictablity. Yvin is an exception, though, he's actually a great character. Side characters like Ais and Ven are also compelling despite any character building time restraints. The plot isn't half bad, but the writing can make it uninteresting at times. Of course, you're asking why I think it's an overall positive and I think it's because 1. Yvin and 2. Yvin. That is all. Okay, JK, the art is beautiful and I can only praise it. Character design? That ♥♥♥♥ good. Colour choice? That ♥♥♥♥ also good. Even the backgrounds genuinely stand out as interesting to look at, particularly the flower fields and dungeon. It's impressive because a lot of VNs struggle with that. The comedy is honestly kind of hit or miss, but overall it lends to a light tone that suits the narrative. It's a good adventure plot and there are times when it's very engaging because of the humour and action elements. For the low, low price of free, it's worth your time if you're interested. Also, Yvin.

Very cute VN! I liked all the routes (Yvin was cool, but Florien is such a sweetheart hahaha) plus the author’s note and all those extras. I thought that was pretty nice to add, and I wish Batensan good luck with their next projects!! I’m looking forward to play your new games. 6/10.

Типова романтична комедія, яких сотні (в чому автор чесно зізнається одразу), але як на отоме в героїні є мізки (що вже величезний плюс) і, хоча роути однотипні, просто розслаблено щось почитати на один вечір чудово підходить.

ANTON FTW!! For a free game, this had me giggling the entire time. Nice songs used plus the story is pretty adorable. There are a bunch of references mentioned here from other fandoms (Howl, Ib, etc) that was kind of cool to see. Definitely worth it and Anton must be protected.

I wrote a full review on this short, lighthearted story for my blog. The basic gist is this: Magical Otoge Ciel doesn't take itself too seriously and as long as you don't try to take it too seriously you will enjoy it. The characters are charming, the routes are unique to each other, and the art is breath-taking. The music was great and there was a lot of humor. While this isn't like, #1 best free VN ever, it's definitely one I'd recommend to anybody looking for a good free-to-play.
