Craft spell cards, collect new effects, and build the perfect deck as you fight through rounds of turn-based combat. Survive randomly-generated dungeon layouts by countering enemy attacks with your own spells, and make the most of the powers and scrolls you pick up along the way.

About
Magecraft: Spellbuilding is a deckbuilder with a focus on crafting your own spell cards and creating unique decks to take with you into the turn-based combat of the Dungeons.
While you have control over the cards you start with, the randomized Dungeon layouts, enemy encounters, passive powers, and scrolls ensure that no two runs are the same.

Take on enemy attacks, destroying them to keep yourself safe from harm - or take the hit and attack enemies directly to do as much damage as possible.

Fight your way through three distinct, themed dungeons, each with its own sets of enemies to defeat, powers and scrolls to collect, and events with with different choices to make.

Combine over 50 Sigils - with effects that deal damage, inflict debuffs, grant buffs, summon allies, and more - to craft custom spell cards for your deck.

Choose between a variety of appearances, color palettes, and unique Background powers when creating a character - and unlock new character colors to change into, as well as new characters with powerful abilities.

The Abyss is a separate mode with randomized characters and starting decks, where unlike the main game, dying means starting a new run from the very beginning.

I have mixed feelings about this game. On one hand, the actual spellcrafting and deck building mechanics are excellent, they would be excellent even in a game that was not free. Optimizing my deck after every run is an addictive loop that I could have engaged in for several more hours if I could. 15 hours and dozens of iterations of the deck in, I am still shocked at how polished this game is for a totally free game. And I only tried a single class out of a dozen or so that this game has so far. The graphics, while simple, have their own charm. The story is whatever, but it is a mere vehicle for an excellent gameplay loop above all. So what is the problem? Well, I'm not the type of girl who thinks games all have to take 100+ hours to get to the credits, but I felt things ended too soon. That is not to say that I have unlocked everything, not even close, rather, I felt like I have playing a free prequel to a much larger game that does not (yet) exist. There is a post-game act, new game plus, an alternative rogue-lite mode with predefined decks, by all metrics it has enough and even more than enough content to be an excellent $5 purchase. But it isn't, it is totally free. And yet, it left me wanting more. More spell components, more acts, more bosses, more game. And that is why I recommend it, it made me forget it was a free indie game, and created expectations that convey how good it is more than any praise I can heap on it

A genuinely amazing game! I have been playing a fair amount of demos recently and figured that I downloaded a demo. Then, while playing the game for about 30 minutes to an hour, I beat the first section of the game. I thought to myself "Ah- this is where the demo ends, I should go buy the game" only to then go to the store page and see that this is a FREE GAME. I was very amazed at that since I would've easily paid 5-10$ for this, you really should give it a shot! If I were to compare this game to others, I would say it's similar to Slay the spire, maybe enscryption? Then again it's free so give it a shot! I wouldn't complain though if this game had a 5$ price tag and a demo that let you play about 30 minutes into the game
THIS GAME MIGHT BE THE BEST FREE GAME ON STEAM!
My god... that level of quality for a Free game is a hidden gem ! This game must be share far and wide it s a great work and the music and sounds absolutly 10/10 put something for sale i ll buy ! you need to be rewarded for that work ! Seriouly! if you want to enjoy it to the fullest i sugest "hard mode right of the bat" it s hard and progress is slow but rewarding if you know your limits HAHaahHAHHA
I feel like I owe the devs 20$, but it was free
It's criminal that it's free.
Delightful little spellcraft RPG. Lots of depth to making custom spells and custom decks, but maybe it's a little too easy to thin your deck and trivialize normal difficulty once you unlock certain tools. Also it would be appreciated to be able to save and quit mid-dungeon run.
This game is so good that it feel wrong it's free. Amazing work, my only complain is... that I WANT MORE <3 And don't get me wrong, I already played for 16 hours and didn't even tested all characters so it's not like game don't have much to offer.
I absolutely LOVE this game. I have always wanted to build my own spells for games and this is perfect for what i have wanted. would love to see this game receive more love
It's relatively simple but well-made with quite a few options for deckbuilding. Free and fresh.
