Sehr minimalistischer Shooter in jeder Hinsicht.
Mad Combat Marines is an indie multiplayer shooter developed by Nightbinder and published by My Way Games, released on Steam in July 2016. The game attempts to deliver a chaotic blend of third-person shooting and arcade-style vehicle gameplay inside urban combat arenas. Rather than focusing on a structured story or cinematic campaign, the experience revolves around competitive multiplayer matches where players engage in fast firefights while navigating large city environments. Its design philosophy leans heavily toward accessibility and quick action, offering simple mechanics that allow players to jump into matches immediately without having to learn complex systems or detailed tactical mechanics. The game places players in chaotic battlefields where heavily armed marines fight for dominance using a wide variety of weapons and vehicles. Unlike more realistic military shooters, Mad Combat Marines embraces a lighter and more arcade-inspired tone. Players can run through the city streets on foot, take up sniper positions in elevated areas, or jump into sports cars scattered throughout the map to move quickly between combat zones. This combination of driving and shooting creates a gameplay loop that feels unpredictable and energetic, where firefights can suddenly shift into high-speed chases across the map before returning to close-quarters combat moments later. One of the game’s defining features is its selection of weapons. Players have access to several firearms including pistols, sniper rifles, machine guns, shotguns, and rocket launchers. Each weapon offers a different combat style, encouraging players to experiment with different strategies depending on the situation. Sniper rifles reward careful positioning and long-distance precision, while shotguns and machine guns are better suited for aggressive encounters in tighter spaces. The presence of rocket launchers introduces an explosive element that can quickly disrupt enemy positions or destroy vehicles, adding an extra layer of chaos to matches. Vehicles are another central element of the gameplay. Unlike many shooters that restrict players to infantry combat, Mad Combat Marines allows players to drive sports cars around the battlefield. These vehicles serve both as transportation and as tactical tools, allowing players to reposition quickly, escape dangerous situations, or surprise enemies with sudden high-speed attacks. The driving mechanics are simple and arcade-like, which fits the overall fast pace of the game and helps maintain the sense of constant movement across the map. The game includes several different multiplayer modes that attempt to keep matches varied and unpredictable. The most traditional mode, called “Killer,” functions as a classic deathmatch where players compete to eliminate as many opponents as possible while staying alive themselves. Other modes introduce unusual objectives that change the structure of each match. In “Destroyer,” players focus on destroying vehicles rather than eliminating other players. “Wealthy” challenges players to collect as many gold coins as possible within a time limit, shifting the focus from combat to exploration and resource gathering. Another mode called “Driver” focuses almost entirely on vehicle control, requiring players to drive for as long as possible before time runs out. These alternative objectives give the game a somewhat experimental feel and add variety beyond standard shooting gameplay. The maps themselves are relatively large urban environments designed to accommodate both infantry combat and vehicle movement. Wide streets allow for high-speed driving while buildings and narrow pathways create areas for intense firefights. This design encourages players to constantly adapt their approach depending on their surroundings. A player might begin a match by racing across the city in a car before abandoning the vehicle to take advantage of a sniper position overlooking a busy street below. The dynamic nature of these environments contributes to the game’s chaotic and sometimes unpredictable flow. Visually, Mad Combat Marines adopts a stylized and somewhat cartoonish aesthetic rather than aiming for photorealistic graphics. Character models and environments are relatively simple, reflecting the game’s indie origins and modest production scope. However, the simplified visuals help maintain clarity during combat, ensuring that players can easily identify enemies, vehicles, and interactive objects even when the action becomes hectic. The overall presentation focuses more on maintaining performance and readability than on delivering cutting-edge graphical detail. Sound design supports the fast pace of the gameplay with energetic weapon effects, explosions, and vehicle engine noises that reinforce the constant sense of action. Gunfire echoes through the city environments, while explosions and collisions punctuate intense firefights. Although the audio design remains fairly basic compared to larger shooters, it effectively communicates the chaos of the battlefield and helps players remain aware of nearby threats during matches. Despite its energetic gameplay concept, the game does have several noticeable limitations. The content variety is relatively limited, and extended play sessions can begin to feel repetitive once players have experienced the available maps and game modes multiple times. The mechanics themselves are quite simple, which makes the game easy to learn but also limits the depth of long-term strategy. Additionally, the multiplayer focus means that the overall experience depends heavily on having active players available online, which can sometimes affect matchmaking. Even with these drawbacks, Mad Combat Marines still offers moments of chaotic fun, particularly when played with friends. The combination of shooting and driving creates unpredictable situations that can lead to entertaining matches, especially in modes where players experiment with different objectives and strategies. The accessible controls and quick match structure make it well suited for short sessions where players simply want to jump into fast-paced multiplayer combat without committing to a long campaign. Overall, Mad Combat Marines functions best as a casual multiplayer shooter designed for quick bursts of chaotic action. While it lacks the depth, polish, and content variety found in larger competitive shooters, its unusual mix of gunplay, vehicles, and experimental game modes provides an entertaining arcade-style experience. Players looking for a lightweight shooter that emphasizes chaotic fun rather than tactical realism may still find enjoyment in its fast-moving matches and unpredictable gameplay moments. Rating: 6/10
Feels like a tech demo of hobbled together parts.
