A classic game. I am very happy to play it again after so long.
Love the new designs on the marbles and it actually plays
$10 is too expensive imo, best to get it while it's on a deep discount sale or from a bundle. If not, it is a fairly enjoyable game, but only if this type of Match-3 game is your cup of tea.
Luxor has good fundamentals. I haven't played Zuma, the game's clear inspiration in gameplay and aesthetics, so I can't offer any substantive comparison, but on its own, the concept is sound, and it's designed competently. However, the execution frustrates me. The one and only music track for the gameplay gets on my nerves, it's too ostentatious and doesn't complement the gameplay, yet it will still burrow into your skull through constant repeat. The campaign is also way too long, with 86 indistinguishable levels. Several of these are identical and each attempt can take 4-5 minutes, which stacks should you fail a level and more so if you get a game over. There are other puzzle games that have similarly repetitive content, but they're usually presented as separate challenges, not a contiguous campaign. The game is also too slow on lower difficulties, when you stack too many combos and power ups, causing the train to halt and even backtrack out of range. These issues aren’t terrible, but they clash with the breezy pick-up-and-play casual game this is clearly supposed to be. These aren’t huge issues. I like the gameplay, or I think I would like it if the presentation was improved. The winding paths and obstacles require quick thinking and aggressive play as the difficulty ramps up, and blasting big color sections and setting up big chains is fun. You have to calculate the delay to your shots, and there’s a little inaccuracy to how the shots place themselves in the train, but they can be adjusted to. However, the game ultimately failed for me because it’s not consistently satisfying. While chaining combos and blasting a column with lightning might be satisfying, I cannot say the same for using the other power-ups, the fire and the wild ball. Catching falling gems and coins should give me shots of dopamine, but the visuals and sound effects don’t induce such reactions at all. I shouldn’t want such a monotonous game to be addictive, but I see the alternative here clear as day, an arduous and uninspiring slog through the desert. EDIT: Playing with the mouse seems to fix some of the issues with the gameplay, but for the presentational elements, skip this game and check out its sequel.
This game is a fun classic arcade game. I highly recommend it.
Very nostalgic. Very fun quick game.
I would recommend this version for people with Win11. Love this game.
