In an all-new, completely revamped LUXOR Evolved, the chains are faster, the power-ups more awesome, the shooters more stealthy. In this retro-styled arcade shooter, you’ll experience a faster, more intense LUXOR, unlike any you’ve seen before.

I enjoyed the arcade style this time around.
Neon Porridge Egyptian Style
Luxor Evolved is a real ray of sunshine and probably the best part of the whole series. It packs all the coolest stuff from the previous games into a stylish neon wrap. Even though it's basically the same match-three gameplay, it feels like a fresh reinvention. There are 65 levels with awesome music that’s totally uncharacteristic for the franchise, but it works like a charm. The gameplay is wild and fast-paced: loads of special effects, explosions, and bonuses, but everything feels natural and never exhausting. All the iconic features made it into the game: recoloring balls, daggers, freezing, and secret bonus levels. There are even boss fights, which is a fun way to shake things up. The balance isn’t broken — even on high difficulty, playing is realistic and enjoyable. The gameplay moves along quickly and doesn’t feel suffocating, though after the first run, ‘Elite’ mode unlocks for those who want a tougher challenge. Technically, this is the only game in the series on Steam that’s been fully polished. They added achievements, Steam Cloud, leaderboards, and proper widescreen monitor support. It's unclear why the other five games were left incomplete, but here everything works like clockwork. The game itself is pretty short, maybe the fastest in the series, which actually works in its favour. So even if casual games usually aren’t your thing, Luxor Evolved is definitely worth checking out, because it’s the peak of the whole Luxor series. If you enjoy Arcade games; specifically grew up with them, or love rebooted classics like Tetris Effect or Pac-Man Championship DX+, you'll enjoy this game. It has Old arcade games such as Asteroids, Pac-Man, Centipede, Tempest and a couple of other games-themed as secret levels. It has adaptive audio and beautiful visuals. Its an adrenaline rush especially on elite difficulty. Some levels are really hard, especially the one that looks like a drawing of a small intestine called 'Nefetari Collar' ♥♥♥♥ THAT LEVEL Its the only Luxor game on Steam that has achievements and cloud saves (Cloud saves are used for high scores and progress) You have the added benefit of resuming from where you left off. Really great game. The one downside is that you cannot pick a level and play it. You have to play it from start to finish just like old arcade games. Update: There is a level Select option, but it is done so by using a cheat. Press Pg Up & Pg Down in the options menu to unlock cheats and select the level select. The level select button will be available in the top right under the more menu :D
Really great spin off, like a Judgment to like a dragon series. Very solid gameplay wise, nice visuals though I enjoy original Luxor 1 / AR more, but it's definetly way better than Luxor 4-5 by visuals. Alright-ish upgrades, funny credit scene that I did enjoyed with shooting balls while credits are rolling, I can reccomend it for playing
Luxor
me when i get laser and wipe the entire screen from existence, trivializing all difficulty (it's ok because the flashy colors make my brain feel happy)
Luxor Evolved, developed by MumboJumbo and published by Accelerate Games, takes the familiar marble-shooter formula of the long-running Luxor series and reshapes it into something far more intense and arcade-driven. Instead of the slow, methodical pacing and ancient Egyptian atmosphere that defined earlier entries, this installment dives headfirst into a high-speed, neon-infused presentation that feels closer to a retro shooter than a traditional puzzle game. It’s a bold shift in direction that immediately signals this is not just another iteration, but a reinterpretation built around speed, precision, and constant pressure. At its core, the gameplay still revolves around firing colored spheres to match and eliminate advancing chains before they reach their destination. However, the pacing is dramatically accelerated, with shorter levels, faster-moving chains, and a relentless tempo that leaves little room for hesitation. Each stage is designed to be completed quickly, often in just a few minutes, reinforcing the game’s arcade-style structure. This shift transforms what was once a more relaxed, strategic experience into something that demands continuous attention and rapid decision-making. The simplicity of the mechanics remains intact, but the way they are executed gives the game a completely different feel. A major focus of Luxor Evolved is its scoring system, which adds a layer of intensity to every shot. Players build multipliers through accurate and efficient play, but a single mistake can reset progress, creating a constant tension between risk and reward. This system encourages precision and consistency, turning each level into a test of both skill and focus. Power-ups further enhance this dynamic, offering temporary bursts of power that can clear large portions of the screen or shift the momentum in the player’s favor. These moments of control are brief but satisfying, providing a counterbalance to the otherwise demanding pace. The game introduces a variety of level types to keep the experience from becoming monotonous. In addition to standard stages, there are survival modes that push players to endure increasingly difficult waves, as well as boss encounters that require targeting specific weak points while managing ongoing threats. These boss fights add a layer of spectacle and variety, breaking up the rhythm of standard gameplay and introducing new challenges that feel more action-oriented than puzzle-based. Secret stages and bonus levels also contribute to the game’s sense of variety, often incorporating playful nods to classic arcade titles. Visually, Luxor Evolved stands out with its striking neon aesthetic. The traditional Egyptian theme is replaced with glowing lines, vibrant colors, and a minimalist, vector-like style that emphasizes motion and clarity. This design choice complements the game’s fast pace, ensuring that players can quickly read the action even when the screen becomes crowded. The soundtrack reinforces this energy, featuring dynamic electronic music that adapts to the player’s performance, intensifying during high-pressure moments and adding to the overall sense of urgency. Despite its strengths, the game’s increased speed and intensity can also be a drawback. The difficulty curve ramps up quickly, and later levels demand a high level of precision and concentration that may feel overwhelming for some players. Those who enjoyed the more relaxed pace of earlier Luxor games may find this entry less approachable, as it leaves little room for casual play. Additionally, while the game offers multiple modes and unlockables, its core mechanics remain consistent throughout, which can lead to a sense of repetition over extended sessions. Another limitation is the lack of depth beyond its primary gameplay loop. Luxor Evolved is heavily focused on score-chasing and mechanical mastery, with little emphasis on narrative or long-term progression systems. This makes it highly replayable for players who enjoy improving their performance and achieving higher scores, but it may not appeal as strongly to those looking for a more varied or story-driven experience. Ultimately, Luxor Evolved succeeds in redefining the series with a bold and energetic approach that prioritizes speed and challenge. It transforms a familiar formula into something more intense and visually distinctive, offering a fresh experience that stands out within its genre. While its demanding nature and limited depth may not appeal to everyone, it delivers a compelling and fast-paced arcade experience for players who are willing to embrace its intensity. Rating: 8/10
