It's risk...only better.
Do you like strategy games? But do you get tired of playing a spreadsheet? Get tired of fiddly, micromanage-y tedium? Lux Alliance might be for you! It's simple and has almost no tedium. It can be quite hard to win, with maps and starting positions varying widely. The Hex Lords map is a good one to learn on. More details? It's like Risk in an hour. Each turn, you can spend income to recruit defender units (often foot soldiers), attacker units (often cavalry), or maybe a base (like a castle). You earn income based on territories controlled, some of which are worth more and on maps with rivers, bridges, mountains, and mountain passes, etc. Attack or defend, be attacked, control choke points, etc. Think ahead a bit b/c defenders move slowly and attackers cost more. You can set the bot personalities to influence how reckless or cautious they usually are. No fog of war, no unit upgrades, no diplomacy (though you often are in an alliance with bots and it's team victory). No fortifications. No cheaty RNG. No province improvements. Most importantly, NO hours staring at spreadsheets agonizing over how to squeeze a teensy bit more income to make the tiniest bit of improvement in one backwater province because the only way some strategy game devs understand to create challenge is to force you to try to manage all of an empire with the budget of a middle school kid's allowance. Instead, players can immediately hire some units and do some stuff with them, although the bots may do much more effective things and defeat me in 15 minutes. There are lots of player-created maps too, iirc, and an map creator to build your own. (played this off line a lot just not recently.) It's great single player. Tried and failed a lot to play one time to play with friends -could have been just us not figuring it out though.
Just barely positive. If you are really bored and want to do something for a few minutes it's ok. Multiplayer doesn't work. Worth $3.00 at most.
I just like a simple no nonsense axis and allies type of game-play, nothing too fancy, just some basic strategy (although you can set this to much harder levels) I basically use it as a time killer and to unwind from other stuff. I play this when I can't think of what else to do, then my mind seems to open up after playing this.
Simple Risk-like game that use WE-GO turn base. A lot of map to try, worth the price at discount.
