In addition to the base game, we have the following DLCs available:
Optimization DLCs: a free download for Luminous Skies: A Short Adventure and one for Interstellar and it is intended to be used on lower end operating systems.
The other DLCs are are effectively 2 games and 1 big expansion pack in a trench coat.
Luminous Skies: The Pilgrimage: A standalone game set prior to the events in A Short Adventure and Horizons.
Luminous Skies: Horizons: an add-on for A Short Adventure. It adds a many new quests, new encounters, new overworld zones, secrets, weapons and armors, and new party members. We hope to add additional content on a regular basis. Mainland and new world access has opened up for more exploration. If The Pilgrimage is a standalone game, Horizons is a standalone expansion pack.
Luminous Skies: Interstellar. Another standalone game, this time set in a Sci-Fi setting. Explore many worlds and contend with the Solar Regime and their plots to conquer all of known space.
Please refer to our announcements in the community section for further details on updates.
In some ways, these games have more in common with games of the 1980s or 1990s than those of the current year.

Sure, I'll be the one to give this a negative review. Luminous Skies: A Short Adventure is a short, turn-based jrpg. Played it (technically 'beat' it) in an hour, then kept playing for a full 4.4 until putting it down. Used a game controller. Difficulty is Medium. I jogged through it without the dlc. First off, there is an entirely playable jrpg here. You can get around, level up, and beat the two bosses to fulfill the short plot-quest given to you. I enjoyed it. Everything works fine, the music is good, the monsters pose a decent challenge, and you can upgrade your equipment. So why is it getting a Thumbs Down? It Lacks... You start off with fully equipped characters in a full world of places to go and all the spells you'll ever need. You're told to go to X place to get X item back. There's 0 build up, no reason for adventuring outside of this. You don't know these characters. If you go anywhere else, any other land, any other optional dungeon, you will get the toast beaten out of you unless you spend time grinding levels. And once you beat those two bosses, the game goes 'You're free! Explore!" So you explore. You level up. You get the one upgrade to your armor/weapons. The directions on where to go next are opaque outside of being KO'd by HP tanks in the wrong dungeons. Once in a blue moon you'll get a tiny crumb of a reason to continue. A character pulls their shoulder for no reason. There's a dragon. Someone talks about life and shows the barest sliver of backstory. Around here will be when you get an urge to take on dungeons at random and beat what you can to find some sort of fulfillment for having started. This is where you'll quickly learn that the game isn't that good after all. The same enemies show up everywhere in a blur. There's no 'enemy weaknesses' to spells or decent variation beyond how sprites look. 95% of the baddies shoot fire spells at you for no reason. There are flower monsters in the winter area. Why? You get a little excited to be hit by a rock spell out of nowhere, but that excitement is short lived. You start to come across two kinds of boss: One you can handle pretty quickly, and the other takes forever to kill and insta-cures all their minions every three turns. You beat a dungeon and are sent back to the map without a single victory fistpump or bit of confetti or treasure to show you that you succeeded in anything. Soon the dungeons blend together, and any new areas seem bare of adventure to be had. But Quaidis, why don't you just pay the near 30 dollars for the dlc and get plot? Why doesn't the game just charge full price instead of making a souless version free to begin with? Here's a free game that could've been created by an Ai-bot for the story, character, and purpose it lacks. Pay 5$ for story, 12$ for character, 12$ more for purpose + tax. There are way, way better games out there for 30 dollars.
Played this free demo on my Lenovo ThinkPad T480 (i5-8350U, 32GB RAM, Win11, the game is installed on a Micro SD card). It ran perfectly fine. As a free demo, it delivers exactly what it promises: a short, self-contained glimpse into the Luminous Skies world. You get a taste of the core loop: Classic Turn-Based Combat: Battles felt straightforward but had a nice tactical edge. Exploration, Quests and Mini-Games Things to Note: Truly Short No Achievements: A noticeable omission! Hopefully added later. DLC Focus: The description heavily pushes the paid DLCs (standalone prequel, big expansion, sci-fi game). While I didn't try them, they sound substantial and potentially where the real meat is. The free demo feels like an appetizer for those. Verdict: For a free experience, it's well-executed and serves its purpose perfectly. It runs great on modest hardware (like my ThinkPad) and gives you a clear idea of the core gameplay and whether the charming, nostalgic vibe clicks with you. If you like classic JRPG-inspired turn-based combat and exploration, it's absolutely worth the download to test the waters before considering the paid DLCs. Just manage expectations – it's a demo, not a full game. Worth trying for free!

RPG Maker strikes again! Luminous Skies: A Short Adventure is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. This isn't even an RPG Maker asset flip game.. it's just an advertisement for one. RPG Maker asset flips need advertising like lung cancer needs advertising. It's something nobody wants at all. The worst part is, yes, the asset flipper behind this garbage is seriously trying to get YOUR money for Kadokawa RPG Maker assets. This is never okay. That's right... the "developer" behind this high school anime club dropout fan-fiction RPG Maker asset flip advertisement wants you to pay an eye watering TWENTY SEVEN UNITED STATES DOLLARS for a bunch of crap RPG Maker assets and his cringey fanfiction. Jesus wept. As with all RPG Maker games, the poor quality engine displays badly in fullscreen and doesn't have full HD support or any graphics tweaking options, making this unacceptable for any dedicated modern PC gamer. The point can be made that the intention of RPG Maker is to make demos and small games to pass around friends, and shouldn't be used for "professional" game development. Like most RPG Maker shovelware and asset flips, the game features extremely low quality copy + pasted 2D retro pixel art, looks awful, and has even worse gameplay. RPG Maker is an absolutely terrible construction kit, and never results in games of any reasonable quality or value to gamers. Despite having no up-front cost, this failed to appeal to the 120 million+ gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 3 concurrent players (probably psychologists)... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? Nope. This isn't worth downloading. While this didn't cost me any money up front, I still feel ripped off.
