So wie dat Spiel heißt 🤬
Ludo XXL 2, developed by Korion Interactive and published by Markt+Technik Verlag GmbH, is a straightforward digital interpretation of a classic board game formula that has remained largely unchanged for decades. It doesn’t attempt to reinvent or modernize its foundation in any significant way; instead, it leans into familiarity, offering players a clean and accessible way to experience a well-known dice-based race game in a digital format. The appeal here is rooted in nostalgia and simplicity, making it immediately approachable for players of all ages and experience levels. The core gameplay follows the traditional rules closely. Players roll a die to move their pieces around the board, aiming to guide all tokens to the finish while disrupting opponents whenever possible. Success is determined almost entirely by chance, with dice rolls dictating the pace and outcome of each match. This randomness is central to the experience, creating moments of excitement when luck is on your side and frustration when it is not. There is very little in the way of strategic depth beyond basic positioning decisions, which means the game relies more on social interaction and unpredictability than on skill-based play. To add some variety, the game introduces multiple rule sets and customization options. Players can choose between different modes that slightly alter how matches unfold, adjusting elements such as pacing or interaction intensity. While these variations do provide a degree of flexibility, they do not fundamentally change the nature of the game. The core loop remains the same, and the differences between modes are subtle rather than transformative. Additional board designs help keep the visuals from feeling completely static, but they serve more as cosmetic variety than meaningful gameplay changes. Multiplayer is clearly the focus, and this is where Ludo XXL 2 performs best. Whether played locally with friends or online with others, the game captures the social dynamics that make board games enjoyable. The unpredictability of dice rolls, combined with the ability to interfere with other players, creates moments of tension and humor that feel true to the original experience. Playing with others adds an element of engagement that is largely absent in solo play, where the reliance on luck can make matches feel repetitive or less rewarding. However, the pacing can be a notable drawback. Turn-based gameplay inherently involves waiting, and with multiple players, this downtime can become quite noticeable. Even with options to speed up certain animations, matches can feel slow, particularly during longer sessions. This is less of a flaw in the digital adaptation and more a reflection of the original board game’s design, but it can still impact the overall enjoyment, especially for players accustomed to faster-paced experiences. Visually, the game adopts a bright and simple style that aligns well with its casual nature. The boards are easy to read, and the interface is intuitive, making it easy to jump into a match without confusion. While the graphics are not particularly detailed or impressive, they serve their purpose effectively, ensuring clarity and accessibility. The presentation is functional and polished enough for its intended audience, even if it lacks standout visual flair. One of the biggest considerations with Ludo XXL 2 is its overall depth and value. At its core, it remains a digital version of a very traditional game, and while it offers additional modes and online functionality, it does not significantly expand beyond that foundation. For players who already enjoy this type of board game, it provides a convenient and well-executed way to play. For others, the lack of strategic complexity and reliance on chance may limit its appeal, particularly in single-player sessions. In the end, Ludo XXL 2 succeeds in delivering a faithful and accessible adaptation of a classic game, with enough features to make it suitable for casual multiplayer play. It does not attempt to innovate or redefine the experience, instead focusing on preserving what makes the original enjoyable. Its strengths lie in its simplicity and social appeal, while its weaknesses stem from its limited depth and slow pacing. For those looking to recreate the feel of a traditional board game session in a digital setting, it serves its purpose well, but it is unlikely to offer much beyond that. Rating: 6/10
🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
