An entertaining and addictive twist on the classic roguelike. You fight a series of monster over several levels, every turn you spin a slot machine that is full of your weapons, items and annoyances put there by enemies. You use the weapons to attack, armour to block and so on. It's cleverly put together. You have 20 slots to fill so you can't just add everything you find, you need to find a balance between attack, defence, helpful items and the energy to play them all. Many enemies add annoying items to your grid - some just take up space, while others provide debuffs. It's a neat game, easy to pick up, with lots of different items. I defeated the game at the highest ascension with each character, it gave me a lot of entertainment, but unfortunately there are a few minor issues that stop it being one I'll revisit again and again. - Slow Gameplay - This is a game that strongly encourages you to drag out fights. You can use bullion to gain gold one per turn, you can use hearts to gain max HP once per turn, every turn you get a new set of items on offer in the shop. Every fight you will want to max out your gold gains, HP gains and hunt for good items. You basically never want to kill enemies as quickly as possible and this can make the game really drag. You know the saying about gamers "optimising the fun out of a game" this game is perfect example. - RNG - I rarely complain about RNG but it can be rough in this game. Because you're dependent on the shop for items and because rare items are mostly strictly better than more common ones, the success of your run can really be shaped by whether or not you get offered decent items. This is particularly rough for the Summoner character, where you wait many turns to be able to summon creatures, with no real control over what they are. In one run, every creature I summoned was a defensive one - so I just died unable to do any meaningful damage to the enemies. - Repetitiveness - There aren't a variety of different builds in this game. There are one or two items that feel unique and make you want to alter you strategy slightly, but mostly you just play the same way each time - find 3 or 4 efficient attacks, 3-4 efficient blocks and you're done. Runs tend to feel very similar. Overall though a fun roguelike that's well worth your time.
Lucky Hero, developed by mora churrasco studio and published by Neverland Entertainment, enters the increasingly crowded arena of casual action roguelikes with a clear understanding of what makes the genre appealing. Instead of drowning players in exposition, systems, or narrative weight, it embraces a fast, arcade-like rhythm where progress is measured moment to moment. The game’s premise is intentionally straightforward, giving players immediate agency and letting the experience reveal itself through escalating challenges. From the first run, its cheerful tone and colorful presentation communicate that this is a game meant to feel lively and inviting, prioritizing approachable gameplay over layered storytelling. That accessibility becomes one of its strongest traits, as players can move from installation to fully engaged combat within minutes. The gameplay structure revolves around survival-based arena combat, but Lucky Hero injects enough personality and responsiveness to keep it from feeling derivative. Automatic attacks free the player’s attention toward movement, spacing, enemy recognition, and ability timing, which creates a more tactical form of engagement than its simplicity initially suggests. Each run begins modestly, with weaker enemy waves and limited abilities, but experience pickups and leveling gradually introduce upgrade choices that meaningfully shift how the hero fights. Attack modifiers, movement enhancements, defensive perks, and new abilities combine to create distinct builds, allowing experimentation and encouraging repeated runs to discover new synergies. The gradual introduction of enemy types, each with recognizable patterns, contributes to an evolving challenge curve where knowledge becomes as valuable as damage output. Progression outside individual sessions reinforces a sense of long-term accomplishment. Permanent upgrades, unlockable abilities, and new starting configurations ensure that even unsuccessful runs provide valuable resources toward future success. Mora churrasco studio balances this meta-progression carefully, avoiding the grind-heavy pitfalls that some games in the genre fall into. Instead, Lucky Hero’s systems reward consistent play without demanding it, making it equally suitable for short bursts and extended gaming sessions. However, players who enjoy deep theory crafting or highly technical character building may eventually find the upgrade pool somewhat limited, especially after discovering and repeatedly using a few dominant build strategies. Still, the steady drip of rewards remains satisfying enough to sustain engagement across many hours. Visually, the game embraces a bright and clean aesthetic designed to remain readable even during chaotic combat. The art direction favors exaggerated silhouettes and expressive animations, helping players track threats and projectiles during dense encounters. Maps are simple but pleasant, acting more as playgrounds for combat than destinations for exploration. The soundtrack reinforces the experience with upbeat, looping tracks that maintain tempo without becoming intrusive, while sound effects provide clear feedback that supports decision-making—crits pop, damage registers with weight, and ability activations feel energized. Although the game does not aim for world-building or narrative immersion, its visual identity is cohesive enough to give it charm and personality. Lucky Hero does show some constraints typical of smaller-scale indie productions. Enemy variety, while serviceable, could benefit from additional behavioral diversity to break up longer runs. Boss encounters add dramatic peaks, but some designs rely more on inflated health and projectile density than unique mechanics. Certain weapons and upgrades outshine others, reducing build variety for players who prioritize efficiency over novelty. Additionally, once the player learns optimal dodge timing and movement patterns, early-stage difficulty can feel trivial during repeated playthroughs. These issues do not undermine the foundational enjoyment, but they do highlight areas where future updates or expansions could enhance longevity. Despite its limitations, Lucky Hero succeeds because it knows its audience and confidently delivers what it promises. It is an energetic, low-pressure action roguelike that embraces replayability, tactile feedback, and steady progression without overwhelming the player. Its forgiving design makes it particularly appealing to those who want the thrill of escalating chaos without the mechanical burden of precision-based combat systems. For more competitive or strategically inclined players, it functions as a breezy palate cleanser rather than a long-term obsession. Yet for anyone seeking a cheerful, streamlined, and satisfying loop built around fluid movement and constant improvement, it proves both engaging and refreshingly straightforward. In the end, Lucky Hero stands as an example of how focused design, intuitive gameplay, and upbeat presentation can create an enjoyable experience even without grand ambition or sweeping innovation. Mora churrasco studio and Neverland Entertainment deliver a game that feels polished, welcoming, and confident in its simplicity. It may not redefine the genre or inspire deep analysis, but it offers exactly what many players want—a fun, addictive action romp that rewards return visits and leaves little friction between the player and the thrill of the fight. Rating: 7/10
It's pretty fun - much better than Luck be a Landlord.
the volume kept going obnoxiously loud every time the screen changed even after lowering it multiple times. I had to go into my sound manager and lower it all the way to 3 for it to be tolerable to play. The game itself was confusing even after the tutorial. not a game i would recommend for anyone wanting something quick and easy to play.
