So it took me a while to figure out what I liked about this game. This is because it has a lot of different elements, it is one part King Arthur, one part poker playing (there is handy little auto function if you can't figure out the poker part, but another way of looking at it is hey you can learn how to do poker which is kinda what I did) with magic and power fantasy, and a veritable kitten kaboodle of Celtic and Norse mythology, along with a world where the modern day mixes with magic as well. You will start off as relatively normal (your not normal normal but you find that out first sequence anyway) male main character and then grow in power until you have enough power to save the world. But its more of a earned character progression as you lose things to get there, and though you do get to save it over the course of three games, its not without loss particularly a certain character who I rather liked more than the main character's scripted interest (who I got rather bored of after a bit, but some people like that sort so no judgement here). There is also huge amount of lore from other books, both fantasy and science fiction mixed in as well, mainly from you reading them, but also in conversation. It was a pleasant surprise to find it as a old nerd myself to see it, why it even had Foundation as a book from Isaac Asimov. Oh it's a sex game, though myself at least have a habit of not paying attention to that as much as I rather like the story more. But not to risque, if that is what you would be frightened of. Found myself rather glancing over it then moving on the story instead. There are deadlines, you can lose out on certain story events if you don't do them at the right times, and checks on your stats. Stats that are important are intelligence, charisma, and strength; intelligence basically lets you learn better, charisma helps in checks and your companions regenerate their skills, strength is more of a hit point and how you attack better. They are balanced pretty well. I actually came to the game from Morningstar which is another game by the author, this game is rather bigger than that one, it's three installments, with the prologue the game that is first one, the meat of the game (the second one), and the third one (which felt more like the epilogue). Paid for it proper and all, and yes it is worth playing, though it will be a bit long, been obsessively playing it for it a bit figuring out the nuances. It has new game + option which means that after you have played through all three games, you get a third game save, which allows you to play the game over with different gems and slightly different variances in story. Anyway play the game, might not be your cup of tea, but I liked it.
First play through was 24 hours. At first i was on the fence about a poker minigame, and unsure about he art style. What i found was an incredibly written and rich story. The Art grew on me, and the minigame wasn't as bad as i thought. I only got 22 of the achievements, so i'm not sure if i'll play it again, or wait till i'm done book 3 then start at book 1 again for the plus mode. I don't play with sound, so i can't say anything about sound or sound effects. I can say that 3/4 of the way through book one this old man was in tears, lol. Highly recommend the game. If you are looking for lewd scenes every 3 mins, move on. This is not the game for you.
Book 1 of 3 in a 'Once and Future King' based story set in an urban fantasy setting. The story starts in the States. You are a young man are heading overseas to a college of magic, you are trying to reassure your mother to not worry too much. This is an opportunity you feel you should pursue, as recently, but unknown to your mother, you have been attacked by a hobo mumbling nonsense, during which you discover you have some sort of magic. And again, about a month later, by a hellhound calling you 'winter child.' Needless to say, you are a bit freaked out. During a drunk you'd followed an internet rabbit hole that wound up with you enrolling in a college of magic. You are offered a full scholarship at a college in Edinburgh Scotland as an Evoker, whatever that is. Are you feeling the strings of fate, folklore, and fantasy yet?
one of the best adult games i have played. the adult content is good, but the gameplay and the story is some of the best i have expereanced. get the while series its worth it
This is a great story mixing mythology with modern, with deep lore and characters, really well written. The RPG and combat elements are solid for this type of game, or combat can be skipped if you don't care for it. Much better than the average VN shovelware.
Absolutely love this game! Great story, fun mini-games, tons of Easter eggs and extra content! I played the whole series and enjoyed every minute of it!
Cant believe this game has game braking bugs book one you can not learn intelligence because the option links are broken and do not work, you can only learn strength and be a mindless idiot. Fix your fk ups FFS.
I wish I could give this a neutral review. Overall I recommend this but the persona time management system and the poker mini game I didn't find that appealing so I dropped it after Act II.
This is an enjoyable game. If you like poker, the battles will be great, but even if you're not much of a fan, dialling down the difficulty to "casual" and pressing the space bar lets you get through these turn-based events without much fuss. The story is good and the girls are all hella cute. As is usual for a quest-style game, you need to build your stats to be able to do well later in the game. I'm looking forward to completing this and moving forward with the other books. Recommended.
Dear god, as a big urban fantasy/Paranormal romance fan, this was great. NOW i need a cold shower. 11/10, would do homework assignments with the princess again. And again. AND again. PS: For fun, and a homage to Kevin Smith movies, i named the princess ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. It made it ALL worthwhile playing.
