UPDATE: (July 23, 2025) Confirmed today (post bug-fix update) the issue with NPC dialog not appearing and not speaking IS STILL a bug. Review remains thumbs down. UPDATE: Changing from thumbs up to thumbs down due to the increasing frequency of the NPC dialog not showing up. The issue seems to get worse the higher your score. It is now 1/5 restarts of the game where the dialog boxes appear. Without dialog or the text dialog boxes it is a game of handing over random items until you get lucky enough to land upon the 1 or 2 items they want. Not exactly a learning experience. Wait for the developer to fix this rather large bug. Original review below: A fun design with game play that holds interest longer than most language learning games, however the vocabulary is extremely limited at the moment. Even at $5 the cost per word seems a bit high. The game also has a few bugs where the NPCs won't speak or the buttons don't appear, requiring restarts (sometimes several) to fix. As this is an early access game leaving a yes recommend, but advise waiting for more content or a sale to bring the price to words learned ratio more in your favor.
Absolutely love this!! As someone who has studied multiple language, as well as Language Acquisition and Learning/Teaching, this game is a wonderful game for leaping into some effective language learning from zero!! It's immersive with minimal notes to make sure you can understand. Clickable words to check for meaning. Repeated dialogue to familiarise with a language's sounds and sentence structure using short and brief, yet natural dialogue. I've run into language games that boast about being the thing that will make you fluent when it's just a flashcard game with barely any context or direction to it's lessons (looking at a certain green bird in particular). This game has proper teaching goals and direction, and doesn't boast beyond it's clearly defined scope. The graphics and UI are a bit rough, but that's literally the only reasonable complaint.
Not bad for what it costs, but there seems to a lot of bugs. Sometimes only 1 customer arrives, sometimes none at all and sometimes you cannot greet them at all to begin.
Th idea is great but the game has lots of bugs and it's a little bare-bones at the moment. I would still recommend it because it has potential ! I wish the voices were recorded by native speakers, it could be interesting if they even had different accents!
Actually a great way to practice languages, especially for kids. Looking forward to more updates!
I only played a bit and it is already quite tedious. From my limited experience, you won't learn much other than some simple cafe items. Once you know the vocabulary, it becomes a simple word matching game. I feel like the game is very limited and unpolished.
Only recommended to a limited extent due to frequent error - The game at it's core is great for learning tho! 早上好!请给我一个冰咖啡,大杯的。谢谢 Despite the errors (customers will freeze without dialogue options; restart of session requiered), this game brings great value for learners. I use it for learning Chinese (中文) and buying coffee in a natural sounding way is essential to me. The barista sim is fun, while also repeatedly hearing the voice queues plus training of ability to differentiate quickly between certain dishes and greeting formulas is beneficial for every learner! Software needs a fix! Always the same customers wich are buggy (blonde Karen lol)
