Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Every market we collect.
Charts
Each storefront's own chart, in its own country — the closest public signal to sales where none is published. A country missing from a list is one we don't collect there, not one where the game doesn't chart.
No United States chart position — it charts only in the markets below.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.29/day in the week to Aug 21 → 7.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
Not Recommended
Playtime: Enough to clearly identify the core problems Platform: Linux (Ubuntu Server 25.10), Native Steam Hardware: 13-year-old PC, GTX 1080 (9-year-old GPU)

Short version (TL;DR)

The game looks good
The core idea is solid
The mechanics seem well thought out
My hardware is ABOVE the minimum requirements
Yet the game feels uneven and heavy
The problem is not my PC – it’s the engine choice and implementation
I cannot recommend this game, not because it is ugly or badly designed, but because it is unnecessarily heavy, and built on an engine philosophy I have had issues with since day one.

My setup – before blaming “old hardware”
I am playing on:

A 13-year-old PC
GTX 1080 (9-year-old GPU)
More GPU power than the game’s minimum requirements
Native Linux via Steam (not Wine)
I normally prefer running games through Wine, but the anti-cheat forced me to use native Steam. Observed behavior:

100–150 FPS on average
GPU load around 60–80%
CPU load around 60–70%
Low RAM usage
Despite this, the game feels uneven, with clear microstutter and poor frame pacing. High FPS does not equal smooth gameplay. 1% lows and frame pacing matter – and that is exactly where things fall apart.

The core issue: Unreal Engine 4 (and the same philosophy in UE5)
I have had problems with Unreal Engine since its earliest tech demos. Not because it is “bad”, but because it:

Pushes excessive work onto the CPU
Relies heavily on runtime shader compilation
Has long-standing asset streaming issues
Suffers from persistent frame pacing problems
This is not new. These issues have existed for years across many UE4 and UE5 games and do not disappear simply by upgrading hardware.
If a game relies on constant hardware upgrades to hide poor engine behavior, the hardware is not the problem.

Why this is not my hardware
If my GPU were the bottleneck:

It would be pinned near 99% usage
FPS would drop consistently
If my CPU were too weak:

It would be fully saturated at all times
Neither is happening. Instead, I observe:

GPU waiting on the pipeline
CPU waiting on synchronization
Occasional audio stutter
Render and game threads falling out of sync
This is classic Unreal Engine behavior, not a sign of outdated hardware.

The frustrating part: this game does NOT need to be this heavy
The game uses:

A stylized, simple art style
No advanced global illumination
No Nanite-style geometry
No complex physics systems
Yet it behaves like a heavy AAA title. This game could easily:

Run extremely well on older hardware
Be ideal for Steam Deck–class systems
Serve as an example of efficient design
If:

A lighter engine had been chosen
Or Unreal had been used with more discipline
Or core systems were not fully engine-dependent
Instead, the design prioritizes development speed and convenience over runtime efficiency and player experience.

Gameplay and design – the strongest part
This is the real shame, because:

The game looks genuinely good
The atmosphere is cozy and inviting
The mechanics make sense
It appears well suited for controller play
I am not criticizing the visual design. I am not criticizing the core concept. I am criticizing how unnecessarily heavy the final result feels.

Why I stopped (and did not go further)
Two main reasons:

Performance felt wrong even when the numbers looked fine
Server discovery and setup were unclear, and the tutorial alone was enough to show that this would not improve later
If the game already feels like this in controlled scenarios, it will not magically improve later on.

My fundamental stance
We have become far too accustomed to:

Blaming poor performance on “old PCs”
Using heavy engines without restraint
Expecting players to compensate with constant upgrades
This is the wrong mindset. Good performance comes from:

Solid architecture
Engine discipline
Respect for hardware limits
Not from endlessly throwing more power at the problem.

Conclusion
Longvinter is not a bad game. It is a game held back by an engine choice and implementation philosophy I personally cannot accept anymore. If you do not notice microstutter, upgrade hardware frequently, and do not care about frame pacing, you may enjoy it. If you value efficiency, play on older hardware, and expect simple-looking games to run lightly, it is difficult to recommend. Not recommended – not because the game is ugly or poorly designed, but because it is unnecessarily heavy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDVnk4DMm2Y
